We already knew that Eva Longoria was passionate about building green at home, but now it appears that the Desperate Housewives actress is lending her energy to building green business centers as well.

Longoria has hooked up with two professionals involved in green building and real estate to form a company called The Greenville Project. According to the release, their vision is to “take a holistic approach to creating a dynamic model for green retail centers that comply with the highest of environmental standards.” Apparently, their first (of a planned many) eco-mall sites will hit in Portland, Oregon. The centers will use 30% less electricity than traditional malls, 50% less water, and recycle over 1.2 million gallons each year. High-efficiency faucets, graywater treatment, and rain water catchment will be implemented — as well as renewable energy systems, natural light designs, and high-insulation and green roofs.

Sure puts my mall to shame.

Eva Longoria Parker — one of our favorite green “Housewives” — has teamed up with the H-E-B Grocery chain in Texas to release a new eco-friendly reuseable shopping bag. The Earth Day campaign features a 30-second television spot to be aired through April in which Longoria Parker encourages shoppers to promote a greener planet by purchasing limited-edition reusable shopping bags. The bags will be sold for $1.49 at H-E-B stores through April 30.

“The environment is very important to me, and through various initiatives of my own and with partners like H-E-B, I work to educate people about what they can do to save the planet by using less energy, recycling and implementing ‘green’ business and personal practices,” Longoria Parker said in a statement released by H-E-B. “Together, we can make a noticeable difference.”

According to the campaign, H-E-B estimates their recycling efforts save almost two million trees a year; one reusable shopping bag replaces six plastic bags every time it is used. Check out the ad after the jump.

When I first heard that Eva Longoria was promoting Wendy’s I thought, ” Booo. That sucks! Get off the stage.” But then I listened closer and heard that she was doing it to raise cash for some kids who really need it. So now I sit conflicted!

Here’s the deal: Eva Longoria spent yesterday working behind the register at a Corpus Cristi, Texas Wendy’s as part of the Father’s Day Frosty Weekend. According to official reports “the goal is to raise more than $1.3 million for the Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption and the Wendy’s Wonderful Kids Foundation.”

So now here’s the question bloggers: can you justify temporarily supporting a company that serves unhealthy, low-quality food wrapped in packaging that is far from environmentally friendly if it means raising $1.3 million for a worthy cause?

This reminds me of a litte friendly debate that occured in the vegetarian world a couple years ago when Burger King introduced the first VEGAN fast food veggie burger. Some people thought the vegan community should support Burger King for their decision or the option would be gone, while others thought that it was merely a temporary publicity stunt and that by supporting Burger King we were supporting the very industry we opposed. At the end of the day Burger King nixed the vegan patty and both sides said, “I told you so.” But I digress.

Is it worth supporting Wendy’s, even if they suck, for the sake of a charity that doesn’t suck at all? Think it over, sus it out, talk about it with your co-workers and then comment away and let us know what you think!
