Only Stephen Colbert could put together a Christmas special I’m remotely interested in watching. (Besides A Charlie Brown Christmas — that will never get old.) It’s either going to be an instant classic, or become as forgettable as that Election Night Special he had with Jon Stewart. Either way, you should consider tuning in for this one reason: There’s going to be a duet between Colbert and Willie Nelson.

Called “A Colbert Christmas: The Greatest Gift of All” — the one-hour special will include Stephen singing “Little Altar Boy” and Bing Crosby and David Bowie’s “Little Drummer Boy.” Besides Nelson, Colbert will also be joined by Toby Keith, Jon Stewart, John Legend, Feist and Elvis Costello to sing Christmas songs that were penned by Daily Show executive producer David Javerbaum and composed by Adam Schlesinger. The entire episode will take a place in faux log cabin — complete with a bear lurking outside and stockings by the fireplace, one labeled “Stephen,” the other “Colbert.”

“I had a clear, clear command to everyone involved: ‘No cynicism,’” said Colbert in a recent interview. “We’re not mocking Christmas specials. We’re doing MY Christmas special. And that was the aesthetic we tried to bring into it. Like, we’re really doing this. I want people to see this every year.”

Costume pieces from the special are being auctioned to benefit Feeding America, and a percentage of the DVD proceeds will also go to the charity. Sounds like a wonderful — and hopefully hilarious — Christmas celebration. Look for it this Sunday at 10pm on Comedy Central. Yes, this Sunday. For some reason, it’s now never too early to celebrate the holidays.

“I’ve done lots of research to try to figure out how to tour more ecologically and for a while we did the carbon-credit thing, which then I just thought this isn’t my answer. So I mean we’re powering my next tour with this bullfrog. It’s this wind power in Canada that sort of off-sets the power that you’re soaking up by putting on a huge rock show! So it’s all like small things; but at least my mind is already wired that way.”

Singers KT Tunstall and Vanessa Carlton are joining a crew of other celebrities and scientists on a trip to the Arctic Circle. The trip is on behalf of climate awareness charity Cape Farewell — which is hoping the artists are inspired creatively by the opportunity to work side-by-side with oceanographers and researchers studying climate change. A spokesperson for the charity tells People.com, “It has been organized for several months. We are hoping that KT will be able to blog while she is on the trip.”

Tunstall was recently married on a remote Scottish Isle and is using the expedition as the first part of her honeymoon with new husband Luke Bullen.

According to DoSomething, Vanessa Carlton is planning on throwing a green bash in her NYC apartment in anticipation of the nine-day trip. All of the napkins, cups, and other accessories will either be biodegradable or or made with recycled paper. Guests include Moby, Martha Wainwright, Feist and many other greenies.

Stay tuned to see how this trip impacts the participants. No doubt, we’ll have a bevy of good quotes after everyone returns.

I finally discovered Feist. No, it wasn’t because of the 1-2-3-4 Apple iPod Nano ads. Yes, they’ve officially ruined that song for me. It’s just that I’m about an album or two behind in discovering new artists in general. Perhaps it’s my broken radio continuously tied to NPR — or the fact that Pandora is consistently jazz. Either way, you don’t care — and I’m digressing rapidly.

The point is, Feist is hot at the moment — and she’s joining a number of other equally successful artists in helping to raise money for the Energy Action Coalition. On April 8th, the newly formed Green Owl Records — a Manhattan-based independent label — will release its first album titled, The Green Owl Comp: A Benefit for the Energy Action Coalition, a two-disc CD/DVD featuring tracks from artists like Feist who have shared their music in order to support the good works of EAC. 100% of the profits will go towards the organization. From the article,

“Disc one of The Green Owl Comp features a collection of 16 songs, including a live version of Muse’s epic “Knights of Cydonia,” Feist’s haunting “Honey Honey,” a remix of Bloc Party’s anthemic “The Prayer,” the whimsical dissonance of Deerhoof’s “+81,” The Citizens Band’s serpentine ode “The Fortune Teller” and Of Montreal’s stark piano ballad “Feminine Effects.” The Green Owl Comp also showcases the post-punk urgency of The Exit, the rustic folk-pop of The Appletrees, Young Love’s melodic vocal charm, the electric chants of School of Seven Bells, Harper Simon’s languid electric groove and more.

Disc two features bonus audio tracks, exclusive music videos and an interview with Energy Action Co-founder Billy Parish (a 2005 Rolling Stone “Climate Hero”), as well as Green Owl co-founders Brewer, Abreu and Glicken.”

But it doesn’t stop there — you can also visit Green Owl’s website to search for biofuels in a particular area, calculate your carbon emissions, or learn about other environmental grassroots campaigns to contribute to.

This is definitely a label we can groove to. Look for the comp on April 8th.
