On March 12th, George Lopez joined a slew of famous faces to show his support for the National Kidney Foundation of Southern California at a special World Kidney Day event.

The “KEEP It Hollywood” event is a pre-Kidney Early Evaluation Program (KEEP) that includes a mini-screening (blood pressure cuff, finger prick & a few health questions asked by some of the best doctors in the country) allowing numerous celebrities and influential community members to take part in the fight against Kidney Disease through early detection, evaluation, and intervention for World Kidney Day.

Lopez told LookToTheStars.org:

“I had a transplant four years and the kidney was donated to me from my wife and I’ve been healthy for the first time in my life. I was unhealthy the majority of my life. And what we’re trying to do is prevent that from happening to other people. And not only to people of color, but all people because it’s a disease that effects 26 million people — whether you’re wealthy or poor, black or white and no matter what part of the world you’re in.”

As much as we adore famous faces here at Ecorazzi, we also know that it doesn’t take a movie contract and an entourage to be a star! There are incredible people doing awesome deeds all around the world and Anderson Cooper and CCN will honor them this week with CNN Heroes – An All-Star Tribute.

This past February, CNN launched its search to find the most outstanding humanitarian and received 3,700 nominations from 75 countries! Since then, philanthropic leaders such as Archbishop Desmond Tutu, Jane Goodall, Magic Johnson, George Lopez, and Queen Rania Al Abdullah have narrowed down the search to 10 finalists. We’d like to congratulate the following people on all their great work:

Tad Agoglia,Yohannes Gebregeorgis, Carolyn LeCroy, Anne Mahlum, Liz McCartney, Phymean Noun, David Puckett, Maria Ruiz, Marie Da Silva and Viola Vaughn.

The final winner will be chosen by the public and voting starts tomorrow! To read more about these remarkable people and cast your vote, visit cnn.com/heroes!

Joining the actor was Matt Damon, Ben Affleck, Jason Alexander, George Lopez, Ray Romano, and Adam Sandler (among others) anteing up the $5,000 entry fee to compete. All of the money raised in the Texas Hold’em tournament will go to Not On Our Watch, which benefits victims of the humanitarian crisis in the Darfur region of Sudan. Said Jason Alexander, ”All the tournaments I’ve ever won have been for charity. When there’s no actual money for me, I’m very good.”

According to sources, Damon exited the tournament early — with Affleck, considered the more seasoned poker player, bowing out later in the day. Organizers ask the two final winners to donate as least half their winnings to Not On Our Watch. Last year, both finalists pledged 100%.

In other words, now that the precedent has been set, if the final two don’t follow suit they’ll look like insensitive bastards.
