Look out for this year’s Oscar red carpet. PETA has sent a letter to every nominee urging them to support the boycott of Armani designs. Will celebs avoid guilt by association targeting and choose some other designer? Stay tuned as the fight rages on…

Gillian has been a long time supporter of animal rights and has <a href="We here at Ecorazzi are very excited to announce that Gillian Anderson gave birth to a beautiful baby boy earlier this week. As always, we are proud to support any celebrity who works hard to make a difference in the world, and offer Gillian many well wishes!

In other exciting news, our own editor-in-chief, Michael d’Estries is expecting his first child sometime in the next week! OMG!! I think this now officially makes me the only single, non-parent Ecorazzi staff member!

So in the spirit of babies (that sounds kinda weird), a big Hip Hip Hooray to Gillian and Michael!!! Congratulations, you guys!! Good luck with all the poopy diapers!

Georgio Armani is one bad boy! In case you haven’t heard the news, Armani got the honor of being added to PETA’s list of fur-free designers after he publicly declared he’d no longer use fur. Then, in the cruelest move of the season, Armani released a new line that included fur coats for babies, floral-printed fur coats, fur-hemmed skirts and fur-trimmed jackets. Well as you can imagine, PETA (and all of us animal-rightsers) felt totally betrayed. I mean WTF, Armani?

And so — because nobody puts baby in the corner — PETA is asking celebrity Armani wearers like Glenn Close and Heidi Klum to boycott the designer until he makes good on his promise. While it hasn’t been released if Klum and Close will indeed help PETA with their mission, there IS one star who’s getting involved.

As Ecorazzi previously reported, Gillian Anderson is super pissed with Armani’s choice and recently rolled up her fur-free sleeves to narrate a video of undercover footage from rabbit fur farms in China and France—countries designer Giorgio Armani is known to purchase from. So watch the video and join PETA, Gillian, Ecorazzi and many others who have all pledged to go fur-free!

In a huge “Oh no you didn’t!” measure, PETA immediately started asking Armani wearers to boycott the company. Last week we learned that Glenn Close and Cate Blanchett were sent anti-Armani letters, following past letters to Tom Cruise, Katie Holmes and Matthew McConaughey. Gillian Anderson was also recruited to help end the cruelty.

This week, PETA’s keeping up the momentum with pleas to Heidi Klum to use her star power and refuse to wear Armani after she, like Close, sported a design from the company at the Emmy’s. A letter has also been sent to Kristin Chenoweth of Pushing Daisies fame, another Emmy Armani-Wearer.

Do you think that these stars will pledge to go Armani-free until the company itself goes fur-free? Your guess is as good as mine. But one thing’s for sure: if you’re famous and you’re wearing Armani, you’re gonna get a letter from PETA. When PETA’s not happy, nobody’s happy!

Apparently, the actress walked away from the meeting having agreed to narrate a video of undercover footage taken inside rabbit fur farms.

Gillian said that she’s pretty angry at Armani and is contributing her time to help expose his hypocrisy. “I am stunned that Armani has gone back on his word,” she said. “I can’t understand why anyone would want to use real fur, and especially rabbit because it is so easy to replicate as the pile is so short.”

Meanwhile, reps for Armani said that they are being unfairly targeted — as they agreed to limit fur in their collection, but not rabbit fur sourced from humane farms. “As a luxury fashion house which has always been attentive to this issue, we feel we are being unfairly targeted in comparison to our competitors.”

Before I wrote about celebrities, I waited on them. As a young person in NYC I’ve worked in some of the city’s most famous vegetarian restaurants delivering tofu to the rich and famous. Therefore I can personally vow that David Duchovny (or Mulder as I was so tempted to call him throughout the meal) loves him some veggie nosh!

In fact I have known for a while that David and his wife Tea Leoni were vegetarians (and perhaps vegan) and I was almost positive that Gillian Anderson was as well. However a recent tip from an Ecorazzi reader revealed that Anderson likes the occasional duck salad. Still, no one is hating because both Duchovny and Anderson have worked hard to help PETA with some very important campaigns.

In 1996, David signed PETA’s “Get Gillette Off the Set” petition to convince the company to stop testing on animals. Gillian’s also has worked on a series of animal rights campaigns and even won PETA’s Humanitarian Award in 2006.

And so because Gillian and David are so damn involved in great campaigns, Ecorazzi and PETA are both encouraging you to sneak some healthy snacks into the theater and go check out X-Files: I Want to Believe. (Cue creepy X-Files music.)
