Gisele Bundchen Auctions Off Diamond Collection For Charity

Filed under: donations — parrish @ 10:51 am

Perhaps diamonds are a girl’s best friend, but they can be a diamond miner’s worst nightmare. It’s becoming common knowledge (thanks to films like Blood Diamond) that the diamond business can be a dangerous and corrupt trade.

Wikipedia tells us that in some of the more politically unstable central African and west African countries, revolutionary groups have taken control of diamond mines. In such cases using proceeds from diamond sales to finance their operations. Diamonds sold through this process are known as conflict diamonds or blood diamonds.

Now, Gisele Bundchen, has announced that she will be selling a personal collection of her diamonds in a special auction at Christie’s in New York. The collection includes a 6-carat diamond ring worth $120,000 – $150,000, and a 3.35-carat Sabbadini diamond ring worth $15,000 – $20,000. The good news is that a percentage of the money will be given to Russell Simmons’ Diamond Empowerment Fund, whose mission is to raise money to support education initiatives in countries where diamonds are a natural resource.

Gisele Bundchen Wants To Save The Planet

Bum-looker, cheeky monkey...

Filed under: fashion, green and famous — mlariviere @ 9:33 pm

So supermodel Gisele Bundchen is featured in and on the cover of the new issue of V Magazine, and while she sports some very interesting shorts, it’s what’s inside the magazine that is most interesting. I guess you should never judge a book by its cover.

A choice excerpt from her ‘revealing’ interview:

“I have a line of flip-flops in Brazil [with Ipanema], and in the last three years we’ve been donating proceeds to protect local water sources and replant forests. Look, I have a huge concern for so many other things going on in the world. I paid for a study about violence that is being edited into a book at the end of the year; we researched for three and a half years with fifty sociologists. While everyone is going around saying crazy things about my life I’m concerned with the destruction of our planet. Why don’t they talk about that? Or, forget about what I’m doing altogether, why don’t they talk about what’s going on in the environment in these magazines?”

I think it is great when a celeb decides to take charge and bite the hand that feeds it. Maybe more people in a position of notoriety will take a stand.

Loves it.

Gisele Bündchen Has A Sexy Green Blog. Very Green.

gisele

When I first heard that model Gisele Bündchen was getting behind a campaign to donate money to help protect the Amazon river system, I thought ‘Ok, there’s a nice one-time gesture.’ I’m so happy to be proven wrong.

Turns out, Gisele is more than just giving away a portion of sales from her new line of shoes to the cause — she’s also blogging about it! According to Treehugger, “she and a group of correspondents in Brazil inform about environmental maters and share pictures and videos.” Much like Jessica Biel, Gisele is jumping into the digital realm to educate and inspire people to take action.

Jump on over to her site, and you’ll first be greeted by the model dressed in a skimpy dress and sitting in the trees. Fine by me. You can then choose to read the articles either in Portuguese and English — though it appears not everything translates.

When the site launched, Gisele sent this message out to readers:

“For some time I’ve been trying to find a way to talk about issues that are of interest to me and that I think of interest for you too, such as out planet and what we can do to take care of it. There are many people who are going to join us and post their ideas to this blog and I would like you to participate as well, to hear your ideas and what you think it’s important for us to post on it.”

Groovy, we’ll add her to our sidebar.
