Oh, Halle — how could you?

Academy Award winning actress Halle Berry was spotted with her daughter Nahla Aubrey at Sea World on Sunday afternoon.

As many already know, these marine parks are essentially prison for animals and have some pretty shady track records. 

Just last year a dolphin named Sharky (Is that like a cat named Doggy?) collided with another dolphin during a live  performance  at Sea World and died shortly afterwards.

Florida’s Sun-Sentinel recently examined 30 years of federal documents pertaining to marine animals and found that nearly 4,000 sea lions, seals, dolphins, and whales have died in captivity, and of the 2,400 cases in which a cause of death was listed, one in five animals died “of uniquely human hazards or seemingly avoidable causes.”

After more than two years of lobbying to rescue Billy the elephant from the LA Zoo, Bob Barker and a host of other celebrities and organizations have lost the fight. The City Council voted Wednesday to finish a $42 million elephant exhibit and keep its lone pachyderm at the zoo. Earlier in the week, the former Price Is Right host had pledged $1.5 million of his own money to move Billy from the zoo to an animal sanctuary in Northern California. Even actress Betty White got in on the debate — siding with zoo officials to leave Billy put. From the article,

Barker, a longtime animal rights activist, said he was “terribly disappointed” and hoped Billy fared better than other elephants at the zoo. Officials have said about a dozen have died there since 1968, but the zoo and its supporters contend many of those succumbed to old age and that it has vastly improved its elephant program.The new, six-acre “Pachyderm Forest” will be seven times larger than the current enclosure and will feature nearly four acres of open space with pools, mud holes and a waterfall. It’s one of the largest planned elephant enclosures in the country. Barker, Halle Barry and Goldie Hawn have all complained the new exhibit would still be too confining and depressing for the behemoths that walk dozens of miles a day in the wild.

Said Cher, who attended the rally to support moving Billy, “They say it’s always been done this way, there’s always been elephants in zoos,” Cher said. “But it doesn’t make it right because we’ve had other things we’re ashamed of, like slavery.”

What a disappointing outcome. I’m happy Bill’s enclosure is being expanded — but six acres is nothing to an elephant. An animal sanctuary would be such a better option for viewing these incredible creatures. Our sincere thank to all those that fought on behalf of Billy.

Halle Berry uses her post-baby, slim and trim torso as a message board, certain to be seen by thousands, thanks to paparazzi.  She was seen out shopping while sporting her white T-shirt with the advert Barack the Vote.  The mama for Obama has not been shy in the past about showing off her preference for President. She has been photographed a couple of other times wearing shirts with slogans supporting Democrat Barack: Obama-rama and Obama for Change.

It’s definitely election season.

It does this through supporting organizations that help underprivileged and at-risk women and children, like Baby Buggy, Quilts for Kids, and a Homeless Prenatal Program. They also offer some eco-friendly choices, like low-VOC paint. Now that’s putting dollars to good use.

Finally, reps for Cheeta the Chimp are going bananas after their beloved star of 12 Tarzan films was passed over for a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame — in favor of one for Absolut Vodka! Not one to be outdone, Halle Berry recently spent $60,000 greenifying her new baby’s three nurseries (cause one isn’t enough). One source reported that she ordered everything from the sheets to the stuffed animals to be made with cotton that had never had a mist of pesticide on it.  And that, ” She’s obsessed with organic.” The organic craze doesn’t stop there!

Green baby lovin has hit reality television too. Trista and Ryan Sutter from ABC’s The Bachelor decided to go green with their nursery and used the help Lisa and Ron Beres from GreenNest.com to assist them. In the past, GreenNest.com has helped celebs like Chelsea Handler, Kelly Rutherford and Sally Jessy Raphael take the green route and insist that even people on a tight budget can make simple changes for a healthier home.

Okay, I’m way too young to have kids, but you better believe that when I finally do become a dad I’m totally gonna be the most organic, green, eco, earthy parent on the block…that is of course unless I live next to one of Halle Berry’s  three homes!

When Ugly Betty first premiered, I was steadfast against watching it. Much in the same way I suppose that I railed against Grey’s Anatomy. However, much like Grey’s I was quickly won over by the writing and humor. It’s a hilarious and self-mocking view of the fashion industry that ridiculously twists and turns in more ways than some soap operas could ever dream of. Highly recommended — but I digress…

On a recent episode, character Betty Suarez (played by America Ferrera) carried a large multi-colored Rebagz Tie-Tote. Much like the Ecoist brand we love to promote, these bags are made from recycled materials; specifically juice packs and nylon rice bags. Other celebrities that enjoy the line include Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt, Heidi Klum, Halle Berry, Sheryl Crow and Serena Williams. Needless to say, the owners of the company are thrilled that so many people are going the recycled route when it comes to fashion acccessories. From the release,

Is Madonna ditching Kabbalah-blessed water in favor of the Kombucha mushroom? Reports out of the UK suggest that Kirsten Dunst, Halle Berry, Madonna and Meg Ryan have all been spotted sipping on the new energy drink that supposedly contains a whole host of health-boosting qualities. From the article,

Made from an infusion of green tea, black tea and sugar being metabolised by the Kombucha mushroom, the yeasts break down the sugar and combine with the tea to form powerful anti-oxidants, minerals and vitamins, which work to fight wrinkles, diabetes and to support the immune system.

Apparently, the drink’s magical health claims comes from something called Probiotic bacteria — a “a gut-friendly bacteria that packs a powerful energy punch, increases metabolism and aids weight loss, cleanses the blood of disease-inducing toxins, and reduces cholesterol.”  It also helps curb alcohol consumption; so perhaps Lindsay Lohan will also soon be packing Kombucha.

While the remedy of using Kombucha mushrooms to help with health comes from China — thankfully, all production of this drink is done in the UK. For the time being, we’re looking at a locally produced beverage. It’s also meant to be sipped in small quantities — so we don’t expect celebs to chug several down a day like Fiji or Smart Water.
