Miley Cyrus Designs Yoga Bag For Breast Cancer Charity

Filed under: campaigns — michael @ 2:43 pm

In the wake of tumultuous controversy surrounding her Vanity Fair photo shoot, actress/singer Miley Cyrus has kept a low profile — but that doesn’t mean she’s not out there putting her fame to good use. The 15-year-old recently teamed up with her mother, Trish Cyrus, to help out a charity women battling breast cancer. From the article,

“The Libby Ross Foundation said Miley and Trish Cyrus were among a list of celebrity mothers and daughters helping raise funds for the charity by decorating yoga bags with Swarovski jewels that will be listed on eBay for sale from May 5-15. Other celebrities duos include Susan Sarandon and daughter Eva Amurri and Hayden Panettiere and her mother Lesley Panattiere.”

Interested in picking up one of these yoga bags (your friends will swoon!), jump here to take a look at the auction. Miley’s is currently up to $102. The auction ends May 15th.

Hayden Panettiere Donates Her Clothes To Help Save The Whales. Again.

Filed under: campaigns, fashion, green and famous — parrish @ 12:27 pm

Do you ever think to yourself, “Gosh, I wish I dressed just like Hayden Panettiere!” Well now you can. Oh, and when I say dress just like her, I mean dress JUST like her.

As Ecorazzi has reported over and over again Hayden loves her some whales, and so, in her continuous fight to protect the beloved species, Hayden is literally donating the clothes off her back to help raise money for the Save the Whales Again Campaign - an international conservation project.

The message on PanettiereCloset.com says, “All items come directly from the actual home of the Heroes star! Many of these designer items are new and have never been worn, while some have been worn by Hayden once (e.g to awards ceremonies, photo shoots, etc,).” Oh and if you think you’re just getting a bunch of crappy left-overs, Hayden’s people have provided this little disclaimer: these are NOT items that Hayden is giving away because she does not like them!

I won’t be shy when I say every time Hayden does something wonderful like this I fall a little more in love. To see what’s in Hayden’s closet visit PanettiereCloset.com and help save Moby Dick!

Celebrity Teens Go Green! Kewl Magazine’s Eco Issue Is GR8.

Filed under: green and famous, magazines, thegreenpicture, web — parrish @ 1:04 pm

kewl

As a mid-twenty, non-parent, only child dude, I am happy to say that I’m totally tweenless. That is, on an average day I have about zero exposure to anything intended for people under the age of about 18. So you’ll excuse me if I step out of my comfort zone and cover something a little more…tweeny.

KEWL Magazine, a magazine considered to be the Entertainment Weekly for kids, is showing youngsters that protecting the planet from global warming can be…well kewl. Expanding on its regular Go Green feature, KEWL celebrated Earth Day with an jam packed green issue, including teen celebrity ‘green’ pledges, information on endangered sites and endangered animals, and tons of information on how your favorite kind-of-awkward, semi-moody tween can get involved.

The issue also featured the Top Ten Green Celebs including Hayden Panettiere, Zac Efron, Miley Cyrus, Hilary Duff, Bindi Irwin, and more. Also, celebrity posters place top celebs in front of world destinations threatened by global warming. Along with the celebs, over twenty earth-friendly companies donated products as prize give-a-ways in the magazine, including necklaces made of recycled precious metals, re-usable gift bags, and solar cell phone chargers.

So grab that eye-rolling, five-foot-something bundle of joy in your life and go pick up Kewl Magazine’s new green issue or visit their website. GO BAYSIDE! (That’s a little something from my tween years.)

Lauren Conrad Speaks Out For The Plight Of The Seal

Filed under: animals, campaigns, green and famous, thegreenpicture — parrish @ 12:14 pm

It’s so easy to watch shows like The Hills and Laguna Beach and think to yourself, “Wow those are about the worst people ever”, but every now and then a seemingly unaware reality star steps up and does something admirable.

Such is the case with Lauren Conrad and her recent fight to stop the slaughter of seals in Canada. Ecorazzi reported earlier about this horrific problem when Pamela Anderson used her fame to help make a difference, and now it looks like Lauren is speaking out too.

Lauren said, “I am a huge animal lover and that includes seals. I think the killing of innocent baby seals is awful and should definitely not be allowed.”

Like Lauren and Pamela, other celebrities that have spoken out on behalf of seal, including Hayden Panettiere and Sienna Miller. America’s Next Top Model judge Nigel Barker even designed a t-shirt that says “Make A Fashion Statement, Save the Seals.” However, I find that fishy (no pun intended) after Nigel was so willing to sit back and allow that disgusting meat locker photo shoot on ANTM a couple weeks ago.

If you want to learn more about the cruel seal industry or just pick up some fashionable yet activisty gear, visit the Humane Society of the United States’ website and find out how you can get involved.

UPDATE: Dear Ecorazzi readers, sometimes I’m a jerk! Sometimes perhaps my passion for the environment and animal rights encourages me to jump to conclusions far too soon. If you read the comment section below you’ll see that in it Nigel Barker stands up for his role in protecting the seals and having nothing to do with the meatlocker episode of Top Model. The goal at Ecorazzi is to support people in the entertainment business that are doing wonderful things in the world and I’m sorry if I spoke out of turn. Please check out the shirt Nigel designed on HSUS and help support his awesome campaign. My apologies!

Ecorazzi Hits The Humane Society’s Genesis Awards

Filed under: green and famous — anna @ 3:32 pm

The Hollywood Office of the HSUS celebrated its annual Genesis Awards last weekend in Beverly Hills, and a host of stars showed their support for our animal friends. The event was a gorgeous night of reverence, eco-consciousness, and in true Hollywood style, glamour! As HSUS President Wayne Pacelle reminded us, the Awards were to honor people using their talents to raise attention to animal abuse and cruelty, because without awareness, there can be no action.

Amongst the attendees was Los Angeles Mayor, Antonio Villaraigosa who was extremely proud to be supporting the HSUS and of the fact that LA has the lowest no-kill rate in America and has just signed into law the toughest spay and neuter program in the US. Way to go, LA! Wendie Malick was her usual brilliant self and talked about living solar-powered in the country with horses, dogs and a cat, whilst still loving to get glammed up. She likes to shovel poop and then go party in the city! Constance Marie was a vision of loveliness, and is a true eco-girl (there’s nothing she doesn’t know!), animal lover, and walking example of why to go vegan.

James Cromwell, another vegan, thought we could all learn a thing or two about living and being from our animal friends, whilst Esai Morales, an environmentalist for 20 years and founding board member of ECO, barked us a message from his dog Frankie! Another celeb big on animal impressions was Hal Sparks with what he called a cross between a porpoise and a sheep! Hal and his girl are pescatarians who are building an environmentally friendly home and have banned leather from their life! Bill Maher arrived fashionably late and last, and would have loved to talk to us if not for the over-zealous pr girl pushing him up the red carpet! Other attendees were Emily Deschanel, Tony Denison, Kate Flannery, Linda Cardellini, Katie Cleary, and Elaine Hendrix. There were also young rising eco stars of the future, Nicole Lapin, Rob Stewart, and Dominic Scott Kay who are all devoting their lives and careers to making a difference. Definitely three to watch out for!

Even in the absence of Hayden Panettiere (who showed up much later after attending the Nickelodeon Awards that same evening), it was an impressive turnout with the big conversation of the night being about being vegan and taking a stand against animal cruelty, factory farming methods, and the effects of methane on the environment. And if the celebs on the red carpet were any indication, particularly the girls, being vegan is definitely the way to go!

[Editor’s Note: This post comes to us from our new field reporter in LA, Anna Griffin. Anna and her cameraman Chris also shot interviews from the red carpet and we’ll be getting those up shortly.]

Hayden Panettiere To Be Honored At Genesis Awards

Filed under: animals, events, events: la, green and famous, honors, thegreenpicture — parrish @ 9:49 am

For the last 22 years, the Humane Society of the United States has held the Genesis Awards to honor members of the entertainment industry who showcase animal issues. Each year, the coveted Wyler Award is given to one celebrity who goes above and beyond the call of duty to make news on behalf of animals.

The HSUS has announced that this year the Wyler award will be given to Hayden Panettiere for drawing worldwide attention to the cruelty of Japan’s whale and dolphin slaughter. Ecorazzi has praised Hayden numerous times for work with the dolphins- even going so far as to insinuate that Panettiere herself might indeed be part dolphin.

Beverly Kaskey, Senior Director of The Hollywood Office of The HSUS said, “We feel Hayden is a very worthy successor to Sir Paul McCartney, last year’s Wyler Award recipient. She’s an inspiring example to her generation, using her compassion, courage and celebrity to help animals in a very effective way.”

Hey Hayden, from everyone here at Ecorazzi we’d like to congratulate you on your success with a festive, “AHHOOOOOOOOO!” That’s whale for “great job.” The Genesis Awards will be held on Saturday, March 29, 2008, at The Beverly Hilton in Los Angeles. To find out more about the Genesis Awards, including a list of all the nominations, take a dive over to the Humane Society of the United States’ website! “AHHOOOOOOOOO!”

Hayden Panettiere Totes Reuseable Bags…To Her SUV

The fun continues!

Filed under: not green, transport — michael @ 4:26 pm

hayden.jpg

Well, we had hopes.

About a month ago, we thought that “maybe” Heroes star Hayden Panettiere had sold her Porsche Cayenne SUV in favor of a more eco-friendly Prius. Alas, as the ever-present paparazzi confirm, the whale-saving activist is still stuck with a gas guzzler. But hey, at least she’s using Whole Food’s reuseable shopping bags!

And yes, we applaud Hayden for her amazing work to help marine life threatened around the world. We’ve just beaten this whole “She Still Has An SUV” theme to death, that we might as well keep riding it. The march towards getting rid of the Porsche continues!

Ecorazzi Update: Clooney, Panettiere and Hannah

Filed under: animals, business, campaigns, cars-houses, events, green and famous, products, shopping, thegreenpicture, transport — parrish @ 11:38 am

The Peacemaker Starring George Clooney: As Ecorazzi reported earlier, George Clooney was recently elected an official “messenger of peace” by the U.N.  The title suggests that Clooney will use his reputation to help promote peacekeeping activities around the world. So has Georgey Porgey held up his part of the bargain? YES!!!

Clooney sat down for a meeting with Defense Secretary Vijay Singh and UN Assistant Secretary General for Peacekeeping Operations, Jane Holl Lute, in New Delhi on Tuesday. Reports show that George has recently been spending a good deal of time in India on official “peacekeeping business.” I said it once and I’ll say it again, “George, I would make a frigin fantastic Assistant Messenger Of Peace.”

Panettiere Wails For Whales: Here at the Razzi we love us some Hayden Panettiere!  Just a few days ago we reported that she was Saving The Whales…Again, and had planned to continue her efforts in Washington. Well, has she? YES!!!

This week Panettiere spoke at a press conference with the likes of Sen. John Kerry and House Natural Resources Committee Chairman, Nick J. Rahall, about the horrors of commercial whaling. They also announced an upcoming meeting to be held in March 2008, by the International Whaling Commission (IWC) in London, England.

Daryl Hannah Adds Used Car Salesman To Her Resume:  Last week, Ecorazzi told you that Daryl Hannah had put her bio-diesel El Camino on eBAY. Sadly, just a few days before the auction closed, the highest bid was a measly 9,500 dollars. Ouch! Did Daryl pull in more loot for her scoot?  Yes!!

The auction closed on eBAY and the car was sold for 15,600 dollars! Knowing Daryl, I’m sure she put that money towards something deliciously activisty.  Ps. Daryl, my uncle owns a used car lot, so if the whole actor/environmentalist thing doesn’t work out, I’d be happy to put in a good word. You’re welcome.

Hayden Panettiere Saves The Whales…Again.

Filed under: animals, campaigns, events, events: DC, green and famous — parrish @ 10:57 am

Breaking News: Hayden Panettiere is actually part whale. A thin whale, yes. A cute whale, absolutely. But I am most definitely, one hundred percent convinced that Hayden Panettiere is somehow directly related to the cetacean family and thus porpoise like in distinction.  And like any good family member-she protects her clan.

This weekend, Panettiere spoke at the Save the Whales-Again campaign at DuPont Circle in Washington D.C to help raise awareness about the brutal slaying of whales around the the world. Save the Whales-Again is an international conservation project that aims to re-ignite the passion of the earlier “Save the Whales” movement and “Save the Whales Again!”.

Panettiere joins fellow celebrities, Pierce Brosnan, Keely Shaye Smith, and Isabel Lucas  who have all pitched in to try and help save the whale…again.  Panettiere has been particularly active in the movement and has future plans to speak with representatives from Japan, Iceland, and Norway to try and convince them to change their archaic fishing practice.

It looks like this Heroes star was typecast.

Hayden Hocks Her Hoodies to Save The Whales

Filed under: campaigns, donations, fashion, web — paige @ 8:33 pm

152.jpgWho can forget Hayden Panettiere’s touching display of compassion for the dolphins last November. Well, by literally taking the clothes off her back, you too can help to support this starlet’s passionate cause to save the whales.  By coupling her fashion sense with fundraising tools to support her cause, she has opened an online store where you can purchase items directly owned and even worn by Hayden.  According to the website:

By purchasing items from this website, you will be aiding Hayden in her fight to raise awareness about the threats dolphins and other whales face worldwide.

From hoodies to accessories, all proceeds will be donated to The Whaleman Foundation.  Fair warning, due to the Hayden’s petite stature, most items are super small but the site claims to “stay tuned for more size options in the future.”  So whether you are in the mood for shopping or just want to support the cause, check out Panettierecloset.com.
