Henry Winkler, otherwise known as “The Fonz” from his Happy Days series, has teamed up with Lexus and the British government to help support the 2008 National Year of Reading. The 62-year-old actor and author is touring the UK countryside and visiting about a dozen schools to promote reading — especially his best-selling series of children’s novels about a boy called Hank Zipzer, the World’s Greatest Underachiever.

Lexus hooked Winkler up with the RX 400h to help reduce his emissions and increase his mileage during the tour. The only problem might be that the car itself isn’t really that green — especially when it weighs over 4,300 lbs and gets 26mpg on the highway. Sounds like a pretty thin hybrid to me. Winkler might do better to just grab a motorcycle and meet and greet that way. We’re pretty sure The Fonz would approve.

But hey, kudos to promoting your book and getting kids interested in reading.
