Cheadle’s Darfur Now Doc To Benefit Solar Cooker Charity, Get Green Packaging

Filed under: campaigns, film-tv, movies — michael @ 11:49 am

Warner Home Video is continuing their charitable and environmental efforts by releasing Don Cheadle’s Darfur Now documentary with a few beneficial bells and whistles. The film, which follows six individuals who traverse the globe with actor Don Cheadle to build support for the victims of the war (as well as appearances by Hillary Rodham Clinton, George Clooney, and Arnold Schwarzenegger) — will come packaged in a environmentally-friendly manner — most likely similar to how The 11th Hour was released this year. The entire product will also be produced with 100% renewable energies.

Instead of Global Green being supported — as was the case for DiCaprio’s doc — this release will benefit the Solar Cooker Project for the protection and empowerment of women in war-ravaged Sudan. It will also be offered at a steeply reduced price of only $4.99. If you’re interested in picking up a copy, jump here.

Brad Pitt And Obama Cousins? Angelina Jolie And Hillary Related Too?

Filed under: green and famous — parrish @ 10:46 am

The similarities are remarkable!

Researchers at the New England Historic Genealogical Society have discovered that actor and humanitarian Brad Pitt is actually related to Barack Obama. CREEPY! According to the society, Pitt and Obama are ninth cousins, linked by a man named Edwin Hickman who died in 1769 in Virginia. Then just when it couldn’t get stranger…it did! It was further revealed that Pitt’s long-term partner Angelina Jolie is also ninth cousins to another famous Democratic candidate… Hillary Clinton. What the Mr. and Mrs. Smith is going on? Jolie is connected to Clinton through Jean Cusson, who died in Quebec, Canada, in 1718.

The study also found Obama is related to British World War II Prime Minister Winston Churchill and US Vice President Dick Cheney, while Clinton has links to Madonna, Celine Dion and Alanis Morissette.

Now I don’t know a lot about genetics, but isn’t this strange to anyone else? The only famous person I’m related to is some guy who made the local paper in the 1800’s after getting hit by a train. Maybe that’s why I’M not running for president or saving New Orleans. Oh well.

Gore Presidential Run Still In The Cards?

Deadlock could open door to new candidate

Filed under: politics — michael @ 8:15 am

gore2.jpg

While I can’t ever imagine things getting so convoluted that something like this would ever happen, the possibility still exists that Democrats might nominate Al Gore as the presidential candidate. That’s right. Not Obama. Not Clinton.

Before you start thinking that I’ve been inhaling too many Hannah Montana products, consider that this scenario came from the mouth of U.S. Rep. Tim Mahoney (D-FL). Here’s how it might go down,

“’If it (the nomination process) goes into the convention, don’t be surprised if someone different is at the top of the ticket,’ Mahoney said. A compromise candidate could be someone such as former vice president Al Gore, Mahoney said last week during a meeting with this news organization’s editorial board. If either Clinton or Obama suggested to a deadlocked convention a ticket of Gore-Clinton or Gore-Obama, the Democratic Party would accept it, Mahoney said.”

Whoa — could you imagine something like this happening? Me either — but the fact that this Obama/Clinton division could end with neither of them leading the ticket is incredible. Ok, Gore fans, you’ve got reason to hope.

If this actually went down, who would you want to see on the ticket?

Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton And John McCain Can All Agree On One Thing…

Filed under: animals, campaigns, politics — parrish @ 10:25 am

Pop Quiz!

Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton and John McCain all have what one thing in common?

A. A fiery passion for a well-made biscotti

B. The uncanny ability to tie perfectly knotted friendship bracelets

C. A desire to ban horse meat for consumption and prohibit their export for slaughter

If you guessed C you got it right. Congratulations!

While perusing one my very favorite green blogs, I stumbled upon a post debating a bill that “amends the Horse Protection Act to prohibit the shipping, transporting, moving, delivering, receiving, possessing, purchasing, selling, or donation of horses and other equines to be slaughtered for human consumption.”

Basically here’s the deal: In the past 3 years the U.S government has pretty much banned the slaughter of horses and closed down the three primary slaughter houses associated with the trade. However, the bill wasn’t specific enough and now American horses are being brought to Mexico or Canada for butchering. The American Horse Slaughter Prevention Act would end this mess entirely.

A myriad of senators and governors are co-sponsors of the bill, including all three of the remaining presidential candidates. And on the Hollywood side, both Robert Redford and Willie Nelson are supporting the cause.

Want to help stop this totally cruel and awful practice? The Humane Society Of The United States is asking supporters to sign a petition urging congress to pass the bill! So be presidential and walk, run or gallop over to the HSUS website and voice your thoughts! Free Mr. ED!!!!!!!!!

Obama and Oprah: Oprahpalooza 2007 Kicks Off

Filed under: politics — paige @ 9:49 am

As Oprahpalooza kicked off in Iowa, South Carolina and New Hampshire over the weekend, it is clear that when it comes to celebrity endorsements, Obama is the man. A flood of support continues to pour in from a range of celebrities including George Clooney, Ben Affleck, Matt Damon, Stephen Colbert, Rev. Jesse Jackson, and oh, Dreamworks (because that is what you get with the three most powerful men in Hollywood - Steven Spielberg, Jeffrey Katzenberg and David Geffen).

Other candidates have their ringers as well. Senator Hillary Clinton has recent endorsements and support from Barbara Streisand, Donald Trump, Martha Stewart and Tom Hanks. And of course, her husband former President Clinton. I mean who doesn’t want to see Bill back in the White House, especially with all of his recent socially global and climate driven initiatives. Regardless, the campaign is truly heating up and while at the end of the day it is about electing a leader based on the issues and leadership capabilities, there is no denying the magic of the “O” factor and Obama earns big strategic points on that one!

Check out the latest celebrity endorsements on The Huffington Post Fundrace 2008.

Sean Penn Votes For Kucinich

Filed under: green and famous, politics — parrish @ 5:25 pm

Ding, Ding, Ding! Round one! The roar of the crowd, the smell of the freshly sharpened number two pencils, the hum of the voting machines; that’s right friends, it’s election time. George W. Bush has served his sentence, and a series of new guys (and gals…or gal) are all lining up for a shot to take over the oval. Everyone has their opinion about who might be the best person for the job, and that of course includes our famous brothers and sisters.

This weekend, Sean Penn released an official statement giving his full support to Dennis Kucinich, saying, “He has been the dominant voice of integrity on issues of trade, labor, education, environment, health, civil liberties, and the one endlessly determined voice of peace.” Penn, never particularly shy to share his political ideas, continued on to speak fondly of Kucinich for his “moral courage”, and devotion to the constitution.

Penn also shared his thoughts about Hillary Clinton, “Don’t underestimate the damage her poisonous ambition can do to this country. We can’t wait for the benefit of hindsight to service the benefit of Mrs. Clinton’s career. ”

Wowsers! And it’s only December kids! Buy your tickets now for another 11 months of celebrities putting on those partisan boxing gloves all in the name of peace. Amen.
