Gordon Ramsay Named ‘Prick Of The Year’ By GQ

Filed under: honors, magazines — michael @ 10:19 am

While my wife was thrilled to hear that Hugh Jackman won People Magazine’s “Sexiest Man Alive” honor this morning, I was more interested and amused with Gordon Ramsay’s “Prick of the Year” win from GQ.

See, there are many, many pricks in this world — but Ramsay has proven, for 2008 at least, that he’s a bigger dick than all of them. From hunting puffins and eating their hearts to making sarcastic remarks about vegetarians to then suddenly feeling bad there aren’t more options for them in restaurants — Ramsay, we salute your wishy/washy, “nobody knows what I really care about” thinking. It’s maddening. And dickish.

For their part, GQ honored Gordon with the title because of his ability to mince the emotional stability of his intern chefs with his fiery temper. Will 2009 be a repeat year? We wouldn’t count him out — but look for darkhorse Chuck Norris to make a strong run at the title.

Check out all of the honorees here — including Leonardo DiCaprio, Aaron Eckhart, and John Malkovich.

The actress had to learn how to become a cowgirl and heard cattle for her upcoming epic with Hugh Jackman, Australia. For those worried that Kidman has gone into the meat business, rest assured. “They [the cattle] are basically on the property to keep the grass short.” Good on ya, mate. [Read more...]

Hugh Jackman Applauds New Zealand Green Screen Initiative

Proud to join new generation of sustainable filmmakers.

Earlier this year, while filming for the new X-Men film Wolverine in Queenstown, New Zealand, producers for the flick decided to participate in a trial run of a new initiative designed to reduce the impact of movie production waste on the region.

The case study proved so successful, that Queenstown’s government this week released a ‘Green Screen Guide and Directory’ tailor-made for the region and “reflecting the national industry’s highly regarded, cutting edge ‘green screen’ philosophy.”

As a result of on-site auditing and consulting, the Wolverine production managed to divert 92% of its 670 tonnes created from landfills; saving almost $55,000 in the process.

Actor Hugh Jackman weighed in on the effort saying, “It’s great to be a part of a project that benefits the local economy while looking after the environment. The cast and crew really got behind this initiative, and we are proud to be a part of the new generation of sustainable filmmakers.”

All future film projects taking place in the region will be provided the ‘Green Screen Guide’ — outlining detailed information about how to recycle in the various departments of a film production - from art and construction to special effects.

Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine Film To Go Easy On New Zealand Environment

Hugh Jackman’s latest project — a prequel to the X-MEN movies called X-Men Origins: Wolverine — is kicking off production in beautiful Queenstown, New Zealand this month. As part of the producers’ efforts to make good with the locals, they have agreed to participate in a case study for the development of a film industry waste strategy. During production, an environmental impact assessment of sets and workshops will be carried out to identify areas where recycling can be maximized. From the article,

“‘A movie of this nature is a huge undertaking, over a relatively short period of time that might involve remote catering for hundreds of cast and crew, administration, set building, construction and painting,’ district council waste minimization manager Stefan Bowry said. ‘The potential for recycling is enormous.’”

As a former local of New Zealand, I’m psyched to see such respect being paid to the incredible environment there. So far, crews have been hitting Glenorchy, Queenstown, and Dunedin. Apparently, Jackman and Co. have also found time to enjoy the sights with a trip on the Shotover Jet Boat river ride. Groovy.

Of course, Jackman’s also got a green streak to him. Last month, the actor was spotted leaving the Bondi Junction’s Westfields shopping center in Sydney, Australia with a reusable ‘garden life’ bag in tow. I have the damnedest time just trying to remember to put mine in the car. (More photos available at JustJared)
