Fans of Isabella Rossellini’s Green Porno series rejoice! The Sundance Channel has confirmed that Season Three is coming — and will follow of the reproductive lives of sea animals. From the release,

“Green Porno 3″ introduces several new elements to the series as Isabella examines the routines of sea animals popular in human kitchens in the first three films of the series: “Bon Appetit: Shrimp,” “Bon Appetit: Squid” and “Bon Appetit: Anchovy.” The films also feature biologist Claudio Campagna, who talks about what we can do to keep our plates in balance with the sea. In the fourth film, “Harem on the Beach: Elephant Seal,” Isabella explores the curious ways of the elephant seal and journeys to Argentinean Patagonia to see the animals in action. Here, too, she is joined by Campagna, who has studied elephant seals for 30 years.

The season premiere will debut at the Toronto International Film Festival on Friday, September 11 and then shift to free viewing online September 14 followed by the on-air premiere on Monday, September 21 at 8 pm, ET/PT. It’s also cool to note that HarperStudio will release “GREEN PORNO: A Book and Short Films by Isabella Rossellini” in bookstores nationwide on Tuesday, September 22.

“I wanted to make the name comical for a reason. I am not denying the importance of the issue, but the call that the planet is dying and global warming, the doom and gloom, had made me and other people think that, ‘Well then there is no hope.’ I hope that humor will draw those people back in. I myself, at one point, began to shut down because of all the bad news. As important as it is, I think that strategy was not working anymore, it was too much.”

The Sundance Channel confirmed yesterday that Season Two of “Green Porno” will be rolling out internationally in Spring 2009. The new episodes will focus on Rossellini getting “freaky naughty” as various sea creatures — including the shrimp, squid, anchovy, barnacle, limpet, starfish, elephant seal, angler fish and Right whale.

I don’t know about you, but anchovy sex puts me over the edge.

“The secret to ‘Green Porno’ is that they allow of us to laugh but they also communicate true scientific information,” said Rossellini. “Because of what I learned in doing research for this series I felt strongly that there needed to be an added environmental element to really inform people how delicate the futures of these creatures are.”

2009 can’t get here soon enough.

In Green Porno Rossellini dresses in a series of different costumes and impersonates various small creatures getting their groove on.  I know it’s a lot to take in so let’s talk through it for a sec. So picture Rossellini…ok got it? Now picture Rossellini flapping her “wings” in…say a bee costume. Now picture Rossellini flapping her “wings” in a bee costume and mating with a cardboard cut out of another bee while her son and his friends play background male bees in the “hive”. No, I’m serious!

Rossellini recently told CNN that she hopes the short films will be both entertaining and educational (and creepy?).  She also shared this little pleasantry about the praying mantis’ mating ritual: ”While they’re mating the female eats up the male and the male continues to mate until he’s completely eaten and dead. With a lot of insects, a lot of females eat the male.”  I holding my breath for that one!
