Action star Jackie Chan spent a little quality time in Sentosa, Singapore last week to help launch Segway’s Go Green initiative — a program encouraging tourists to go green by using the two-wheel motor personal transporter. 

Sentosa currently has 30 two-wheel mobile devices and the management plans to increase the number of devices to 50 by the end of this year.

In a gesture of improving the environmental condition of the island, Jackie planted and tree at the event and also shared this personal eco-tidbit: 

“Do you know how much water we waste when each of us visits the washroom twice a day? When I go to the washroom, I will ask who is going after me; we’ll flush the toilet bowl when the last person is done. I am doing this for the environment.”

Well…every little bit helps, I guess.

About the Make-A-Wish Foundation Jackie says, “Over the past ten years, the Make-A-Wish Foundation has received amazing support from people of all walks of life, benefiting quite a few children and their families. Security and grounds staff at the Olympics will use about 100, the Beijing airport’s new terminal has ordered four, and police in the eastern province of Shandong have bought 30 scooters to patrol the Olympic sailing venue, he said.”

Since opening the dealership in 2006, McGuire says Chan’s business has grown steadily, with revenue now in the millions of dollars US annually. It’s good to profits from all of those Rush Hour movies making a difference somewhere…

Not On Our Watch, a charity co-founded by George Clooney, Brad Pitt, Matt Damon, Don Cheadle, and Jerry Weintraub recently donated $500,000 to the United Nations World Food Program. The cash will be earmarked for the U.N.’s food aid agency to prevent hunger in the troubled Darfur region of Sudan. Patrick Dempsey wasn’t the only famous celeb opening a new medial center this week. Down in Australia, Jackie Chan opened a science education center at an Australian cancer research clinic; dedicated in the actor’s name. Chan’s father, Charlie, lived in Aussie for more than 40 years. Organizers did not reveal how much Jackie donated to the new center, but did indicate that the sum was “substantial”. [via StarPulse]
