Award shows are always a difficult thing to cover from a green angle simply because information on eco-friendliness is always a bit hard to come by. The exception to this rule was the year 2007 — when An Inconvenient Truth was hot and everything from the Golden Globes to the Oscars was rich with “Look, we’ve gone green!” promotions; not to mention the various eco-parties after the fact. As we predicted then, the green side was so hyped that it had no place to go but behind the scenes for the future. Which, if integrated without a second though about marketing, it pretty cool. Nevertheless, for a “green gossip” site, that means a bit more digging than usual. For the 2009 Golden Globes, here’s what we found:

>>For the red carpet, I was happy to see some celebrities arrive in hybrids — the usual suspect being the Toyota Prius. Leonardo DiCaprio didn’t disappoint by arriving in a black Prius. Pierce Brosnan, as announced earlier, brought his BMW Hydrogen 7.

>>The main course for the evening, something Jenna Fischer revealed is only available to those who arrive early, featured a good amount of organic and local food. Even the meat was all-natural, grass-fed. For desert? Air-brushed Golden Chocolate Globe drizzled with organic pistachio yogurt! Yum.

>>The name of the brand is escaping me, but I spied a good deal of bottled water at most of the tables shown on television last night. So, filtered tap water definitely was not on the menu.

In the end, no awards show can be as “green” as last year’s cancelled Golden Globes — which involved a simple press box setup and no glitz or glam. What did you spy last night? Anything green you would like to mention that I missed?

Earlier this year Ecorazzi was excited to report that a few famous faces had lent their signatures and signed bowls for Feeding America. Well now it looks like Hollywood’s starrific pet-lovers are borrowing the bowl idea and getting involved!!

Stars like Tori Spelling, Alison Sweeney, Jenna Fischer (my Office crush) and many, many more have signed dog bowls to be auctioned for the LASPCA.

The money will be used to help the chapter run animal shelters and Cruelty Investigation Programs, as well as their Disaster Animal Response Team and Humane Education Programs in Southern California. AWESOME!!

Earlier this year I declared that The Office had officially become my all-time favorite show…maybe ever! Could it be Steve Carell’s hystericalness? Possibly? Could it be my addiction to Angela Kinsey’s web videos? Perhaps? Is it because I have like the HUGEST crush ever on Jenna Fischer? Yeah, that might have something to do with it! But still, the point is that The Office is fantastic and now I have another reason to love it!

Last night, Michael (played by Steve Carell) bought a fur coat at Burlington Coat Factory and revealed: “You should know that some people think it’s cool to throw buckets of fake blood on you as you are walking out of Burlington Coat Factory.”

Now if you think this episode was pro-fur, THINK AGAIN! The coat they used in production was totally faux and original Office star Ricky Gervais has worked hard with PETA to publicly speak out against fur! Burlington Coat Factory, however, isn’t off the hook!

Burlington still sells fur and eagerly supports this super cruel industry. GROSS! So follow our lead and stay out of Burlington Coat Factory until they refuse to sell fur. Cause fur, ya’ll…it just AIN’T COOL!

PETA has just launched a new ad featuring Stars judge Carrie Ann Inaba in which she tells people: “Don’t Miss a Step—Spay or Neuter Today!” Of course also featured is Inaba’s rescued and responsibility neutered cat, Shadow. In fact, Carrie has THREE cats who’ve all been rescued from shelters!

Many stars choose to set a positive example by rescuing their animals. The Office’s Jenna Fischer (who I have a crazy mad crush on) even hosted the Fur Ball to help raise money for Kitten Rescue.

The sad truth is that 3 to 4 million companion animals are killed in shelters every year while breeders continue to make a profit by increasing the pet population. As a child my family bought our dog from a breeder, and while I loved my Max, as an adult I’ve made the choice to only adopt my pets from shelters. The Office’s Jenna Fischer played host Sunday evening for the first annual “Fur Ball” in Los Angeles. The event was held to celebrate 10 years for the non-profit Kitten Rescue and the more than 9,000 lives they’ve helped save. Celebrity guests included Emily Deschanel (Bones), Wendi McLendon-Covey (Reno 911), Daniela Sea (The L Word) and Kent King (General Hospital). One of my new favorite television actresses, Tricia Helfer (Burn Notice), received the Kitten Rescue Advocacy Award.

Fischer said that her love for cats is very similar to that of a character from The Office. “In the show, Angela has all these elaborate procedures for her cat. I’ve done all that – the eye drops and ear swabs. I’ve checked their poop and massaged their tummy.” said Fischer, who has fostered 9 cats.
