Jennifer Aniston, Will Ferrell, Fight For Freedom In Burma

Filed under: campaigns — michael @ 4:38 pm

Celebrities like Will Ferrell, Jennifer Aniston, Woody Harrelson, Jason Biggs, and Sarah Silverman are teaming up and delivering a different PSA for 30-days to help build support for democracy in Burma. This campaign comes at a particularly devastating time for the country, as a recent cyclone may have killed more than 10,000 people.

The 30-Days campaign is being sponsored by Fanista — which is kind of a social networking site for entertainment buffs. In addition to the films, Fanista is also giving 10% to the cause if you select “Burma” at cehck-out.

Will Ferrell’s video is below — and features the same quirky humor we’ve come to expect from him. After hitting MORE, you can also see videos featuring Jennifer Aniston, Woody Harrelson, and others. Since the campaign started about five days ago, we’re a bit behind. From now until its conclusion at the end of May look for the Raz to post a daily vid from the effort. For more information — and to add your voice — jump over to the official site here.

Jennifer Aniston Has Green Plans For New Malibu Home

Will it come fully stocked with bottled water?

Filed under: buildings and construction, cars-houses — michael @ 10:24 am

Though she continues to plug bottled water, Jennifer Aniston is making plans to add some green into her life (beyond the three-minute showers she enjoys) with the construction of an eco-friendly pad in Malibu, California.

According to sources, Aniston was inspired by Julia Robert’s recently completed eco-home and now wants one for her own. We’re also going to chalk up some potential influence from her man of the moment, John Mayer. This is the same guy that invented a “laid-back” approach to environmentalism; one in which it’s ok to drive an SUV if you offset that by doing something good for the planet; like taking reusable bags to the grocery store or installing solar panels on your roof.

According to Star Magazine, the home will feature a solar-heating system, drought-resistant plants, all organic materials, plus an ocean view. Said the source, “Jen wants to help the environment and she has the money.”

I’m all for these green additions — but in terms of helping the environment, perhaps she could do a lot more to convince her Smart Water brand to go greener. It’s not realistic to suggest she drop it — that won’t happen — but truly, she could have some impact encouraging the company to be more sustainable. Biodegradable bottles? Offsets? Portion of sales going towards an environmental charity?

What do you think about Jen’s green home plans?

Courteney Cox Throws Star Power Behind Raising $1 Million In Two Weeks

Filed under: campaigns — michael @ 10:20 am

aniston.jpgHow much cash can you get when you put Orlando Bloom, Jennifer Aniston, Brad Pitt, Kate Beckinsale, and David Arquette all behind a single charity for two weeks? Courteney Cox hopes it’s more than $1 million dollars. The former Friends star has set a goal of two weeks to raise that amount for those affected by a genetic skin condition called Epidermolysis Bullosa — a condition which often affects children. From the article,

“EB is very personal to me so I’m happy to be part of this $1 million challenge,” says Dirt star Courteney. “Now is such an important time to put a spotlight on EB and ensure that research can continue at a fast pace.”

Additional celebs signing up to help include Gwen Stefani, Gavin Rossdale, Rashida Jones, James Marsden, and Eva Longoria Parker.

Cox and Arquette are heading up the effort as members of the honorary advisory board of the Epidermolysis Bullosa Medical Research Foundation. Aniston, Pitt, Rossdale and Stefani are also members. Those affected by the condition break out in painful blisters after even minor trauma to the skin. Wounds may cover up to 75 percent of the body and never go away.

We wish them the best of luck! To find out how you can help contribute, please visit the foundation’s website.

Oprah’s Big Give To Feature A Little Help From Jennifer Aniston

Oprah Winfrey’s new reality show, Big Give, is getting some help from actress Jennifer Aniston. The show — which premieres March 2nd — challenges 10 people to help change the lives of complete strangers. At the end of the challenge, the contestants will be judged on their leadership, accomplishments, creativity and presentation with one “giver” being eliminated. The judges include “world-renowned “Naked Chef” and philanthropist Jamie Oliver, NFL star Tony Gonzalez, and Malaak Compton-Rock, charity founder and the wife of comedian Chris Rock.”

Aniston will join John Travolta, Jada Pinkett-Smith, tennis legend Andre Agassi, skateboarder Tony Hawk and racing star Danica Patrick in assisting the contestants with the various challenges. Judge Jaime Oliver couldn’t be more thrilled to work with her again — after meeting her and then-husband Brad Pitt at a private dinner party he helped cook for. From the article,

“‘Jennifer’s a friend of mine, she’s a beautiful, beautiful character,’ he tells OK!. ‘She was perfect to be a part of Oprah’s Big Give because that’s her personality — she’s a beautiful, giving person. It was lovely to have her involved, to have a friend be involved in the same show as me, and she comes along to one of the shows to pat the winners on the back.’”

No doubt that as with anything Oprah touches, this 8-episode series should be a big hit. Obviously, we really love the concept of helping out others in need and having Winfrey spearhead this effort is wonderful. Let’s hope there’s another season of giving in the works.

5th Annual Global Green USA Pre-Oscar Party

First details swoop in!

Filed under: events: la, fashion, film-tv, food & drink, green and famous, movies, red carpet, television — michael @ 7:37 am

Last night, Global Green USA’s 5th Annual Pre-Oscar Party rocked out in grand style with a bevy of celebrities, performers such as Michelle Branch and Damien Rice, and a focus on the environment and sustainable design. While we had spies all over, we sent our main duo Pleasant Wayne and Damien Somserset to cover the action on the red carpet. That video is to follow shortly, but right now, here are some highlights from Pleasant:

1. Tate Donovan would ride his bike to the moon to work with Jennifer Aniston again. (old Friends co-star) He brought his bike on the “green” grass carpet and is a huge advocate for biking in the city.

2. Dana Delany had a non-eco PRADA purse, but said she recylces her scripts on the set.

3. Jason Lewis jetted past the press line and we think he was with his Mom. Aww…

4. Salma Hayek wore a Stella McCartney pantsuit because she said she is trying to lose the baby weight - “I’m not Nicole Richie, ha ha!”

ecr_001-22.jpg

6. Molly Sims was gushing about how Eco her boyfriend, Justin Chatwin, (from War of the Worlds) is….didn’t get her to speak as she was rushing into the party.

7. Sofia Bush would never date someone who isn’t into GREEN living. She was wearing earrings made of crystal stone and diamonds.

8. Taylor Dane was cool - she’s been taking her kids camping and teaching them how to live a softer-on-the-earth life even though she’s a New Yorker at heart. She has her heart set on a hybrid SUV.

ecr_001-231.jpg

9. Josie Maran was promoting her new all-natural cosmetic line - “Josie Maran Cosmetics”. She said her biggest passion was using eco-friendly diapers and gave some interesting facts about disposable diapers and landfills. She was with her friend, Rainbow, who was wearing a vintage dress and works with Adidas - they are working on developing some eco-gear.

10. Adrian Grenier whizzed past the “tabloid” section. :(

11. There was some speculation that Michelle Branch had a baby bump from our neighbor Press friends! She wasn’t interviewing as she had to perform.

12. Bill Mahr arrived very late and was driving a hybrid SUV.

13. Ian Somerhalder from “Lost” and many other projects eats organically and practices Yoga…what a cutie! :)

14. Thomas Ian Nicholas from American Pie etc. donates his time to children’s charities in addition to being active with Global Green.

More to come on this fantastic evening shortly!

Jennifer Aniston Receives A $12,000 Chanel Bike

Filed under: transport, travel — michael @ 2:48 pm

chanel.jpg

Ah, the financially warped value system of Hollywood. Bear with me on this one.

So recently, Jennifer Aniston mentioned to her friend Courteney Cox that, you know, she was interested in hitting the Los Angeles bike lanes for exercise and all that. Cox, excited by the idea decided to send Jennifer a $12,000 one-of-a-kind Chanel bicycle — complete with eight speeds and a quilted leather seat and saddlebag emblazoned with the famous Chanel logo. Seriously? It also has jeweled pant clips to keep your pants from getting caught in the chain. All this, and it weighs 36lbs!

Look, we love it when stars break out the scooters, motorcycles, bikes, and other random pieces of equipment to get around with. But there’s got to be something wrong with actually purchasing a Chanel bike for $12,000 ($12,600 list) decked out in leather styling. Am I off on this one? How much is the matching helmet?

Michael Jackson Adds “Green” To His List Of Many Colors

Filed under: green and famous — parrish @ 11:07 am

The multi-color, technicolor King of Pop has finally made that essential leap onto the green bandwagon. This weekend, Michael Jackson was seen scooting about town (or rather being scooted about town) in a fancy new Toyota Prius. Jackson has long since had a reputation for being a bit of a thorn in the side of Mother Earth. You know, owning private jets, massive mansions, his own amusement park…that whole bag. And I must say, it’s refreshing to finally see Jackson take a step in the green direction.

Jackson joins a goggle of other celebrities such as Cameron Diaz, Harrison Ford, Jennifer Aniston and Will Ferrell, who have all been seen rocking a cleaner driving ride.  Say what you want about the guy, but I must give credit where credit is due.

So Michael Jackson, a message from me to you: stay out of trouble and keep on chuggin away in that sweet, green machine.
