As we mentioned last year, during the filming of Fool’s Gold starring Kate Hudson and Matthew McConaughey, things got a little sticky after the waters the two were in became infested with killer jellyfish. This ultimately delayed filming and caused producers to shift locations various times to avoid any fatal mishaps. The little killers in question are called irukandji and are no bigger than the size of a fingernail. As if that alone didn’t make them hard enough to spot, they’re also translucent.

Scientists believe that due to climate change, the deadly jellyfish are migrating from their normal waters up north to warming areas down south near popular beach spots. Obviously, this is not something tourist officials want spread about. McConaughey and Hudson, however, are all about it. From the article,

McConaughey tells Wenn, “We couldn’t be in the water for two weeks because this wild jellyfish came through and ran everyone out of the water. It was an iricongi jellyfish, about the size of your pinky nail. We kept moving our locations, running from the iricongi”. Hudson adds, “They are these tiny, quarter-inch jellyfish that are totally translucent and you can’t even see them - but they’re deadly. The Australians say it’s not the sting that kills you, it’s the pain. They are these deadly jellyfish which literally can put you in the hospital for three days on a morphine drip”.

Lovely.
