Jessica Alba is back in the media — but thankfully, it has nothing to do with plastering shark posters around downtown Oklahoma City.

The actress sat down with Vogue magazine and told them how she’s gone eco-chic in her life. From grass that never needs watering made from recycled tires to the composter in her backyard, Alba dishes on her new green ways — and how having a baby has changed her home for the better. Check it out below:

Jessica Alba Avoids The Bite Of Oklahoma City Police

Filed under: campaigns — Michael Andre d'Estries @ 4:24 pm

After getting caught in online photos defacing Oklahoma City property, Jessica Alba found herself in a bit of hot water with police. The actress partnered up with a shark conservationist to help promote the plight of the predators by gluing posters all around the city one night a few weeks back. Only when photos of the stunt landed online did the world go abuzz over the illegal activity. It was a bit unclear what punishment Alba might face — but now police have now told TMZ that they have no plans to pursue the matter further. Apparently, nobody wanted to press charges.

In response to the investigation, Alba did release an apology last week — and offered to pay for the damage she did to an United Way billboard. With the investigation now closed, one wonders how much the power of celebrity came into play here. Would any of us have been able to get away with this with only an apology?

Jessica Alba Apologizes For Oklahoma City Shark Stunt

Filed under: animals, campaigns — Michael Andre d'Estries @ 11:22 pm

jessA stunt that was meant to help highlight the plight of great white sharks has instead backfired on Jessica Alba. The actress released a statement late today apologizing for her involvement in the defacement of Oklahoma City property — and offering to help pay for the United Way advertisement she vandalized.

“I got involved in something I should have had no part of,” she said. “I realize that I should have used better judgment and I regret not thinking things through before I made a spontaneous and ill-advised decision to let myself get involved with the people behind this campaign. I sincerely apologize to the citizens of Oklahoma City and to the United Way for my involvement in this incident.”

Alba’s admission of guilt came after the organization behind the bizarre campaign, White Mike, posted images of the 28-year-old actress posing in front of — and gluing — shark posters to various buildings and signs. The photos were later taken down from the site — but by that point, other blogs had jumped on them and spread the word.

According to Starpulse, cops have confirmed they have requested to speak to Alba over the incident. No doubt, there will be some slapped wrists over this one.

Jessica Alba Promotes Saving Sharks By Defacing Oklahoma City

Filed under: animals, campaigns — Michael Andre d'Estries @ 1:07 pm

alba_sharks

This is kind of an odd story — but the gist of it is this: Jessica Alba hooked up with a shark conservationist last week, flew him to, of all places, Oklahoma City — and together the two of them plastered posters of sharks all around the city. Apparently, the posters didn’t even say anything — they just had a picture of a great white shark on them, leading anyone to wonder what the hell they were there for. (My guess would have been promos for Shark Week on Discovery Channel.)

It gets worse.

Apparently, caught up in the “craziness” of their stunt, Alba and Co inadvertently plastered over a United Way billboard. Ouch. A rep for the non-profit organization told TMZ.com that although the billboard was donated, they’ll probably have to pay out of their own pocket to replace it. Double ouch.

Now, we’re all for shark conservation, but this is one of the more odd examples of celebrity activism I can think of. I mean, what are we supposed to take away from these posters? Why not show a picture of a shark being killed or something and, at the very least, a website name at the bottom for more information? Meh — we’re sure their hearts were in the right place, but this certainly didn’t end up working out to the benefit of any organization — especially the United Way.

Thanks, Erin!

Alba, Paltrow Donate Items For Clean Water Initiative Auction

Filed under: campaigns — Michael Andre d'Estries @ 12:49 pm

alba_paltrow

Gwyneth Paltrow and Jessica Alba have teamed up with Johnson’s No More Tears brand to help raise cash for the company’s clean water initiative. Through eBay, the pair will donate some baby-themed items to be auctioned off today through May 14th.

Paltrow’s “get your pre-baby body back” experience includes time with her personal trainer, Tracy Anderson — with one-on-one training, weekly phone consultations and Anderson’s workout DVD’s. For her part, Jessica Alba is donating some hand-me-downs from her daughter Honor Marie. Her auction includes a limited-edition Maclaren Juicy Couture Ryder Stroller, Hello Kitty rain gear, and a diaper bag, as well as an abundance of baby clothes.

All proceeds from the charity auction will go to provide innovative and sustainable water, sanitation and hygiene solutions - to ensure every baby makes it to his or her first birthday. Participating charities in the Clean Water Initiative, including the non-profit organization Water for People, were handpicked by Johnson’s.

It’s worth mentioning that while we commend Johnson & Johnson for their charitable efforts, we still disagree heavily with their continued testing of products on live animals. It’s one thing to bid on these auctions and help raise money for clean water, but until their actions with animals change, I definitely won’t be buying any of their products.

To check out more details on the auction, jump here.

Jessica Alba’s Vegan Easter Cupcakes For Baby Honor Marie

Filed under: babies and bumps, food & drink — Michael Andre d'Estries @ 2:15 pm

alba_babyJessica Alba appeared on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno recently and dished a bit about her first Easter with daughter, Honor Marie Warren. Apparently, the 27-year-old actress tried to keep things healthy with “organic, dairy-free, egg-free cupcakes.” Unfortunately, the taste results were less than yum. From Celebrity Baby Blog,

While the cupcakes themselves were “awesome” and “moist,” Jessica says that the icing “sucked” — so she decided to take a detour from the health-food route, and opted for icing in a can! “It was like, all this organic stuff and then canned icing,” she laughed.

I can attest to having some really crappy vegan frosting — but there’s also some delicious alternatives out there as well. My recommendation? The book: Vegan Cupcakes Take Over The World, 75 Dairy-Free Recipes for Cupcakes that Rule. Believe me, you will not be disappointed.

Jessica Alba Enjoys The Velib Bike Sharing System In Paris

jessica alba, bike, paris, velib, eco-friendly

On my first visit to Paris in Summer 2007, I had the opportunity to try out their newly installed Velib bike-sharing service. It’s an incredibly well-designed networked system that allows Parisians to rent bikes all around the city and avoid using cars or crowded subways — while also taking in the beautiful sites all around them. Earlier this week, I was watching a special on PBS talking about the success of the system two years later — narrated by none other than Brad Pitt. (”Success” might be a loose word, as HuffPo is quick to point out that there have also been some gripes about the system.)

Now, Jessica Alba has been spotted in Paris taking advantage of Velib to get around the city. According to People, the actress peddled over the river to St. Germain, where she parked her wheels in a rack and settled down to a steak frites lunch at Relais de l’Entrecôte.”

Ahh, Paris.

Stars like Scarlett Johansson, Ben Affleck and Jessica Alba have also got involved by pledging their time to create holiday-themed artwork that will adorn Netflix gift subscriptions this holiday season, proceeds from which will be donated to Feeding America.

In addition, each actor’s work will be featured in a limited-edition Netflix Holiday Gift Box, a red, velvet-lined commemorative showcase featuring an individually signed and numbered print and a lifetime membership to Netflix.
