Nicole Richie Launches Online Gift Registry For Needy Moms

Filed under: babies and bumps, donations — michael @ 4:00 pm

Nicole Richie continues to evolve the children’s foundation she started last year with babby-daddy Joel Madden. This past December, Richie gave out of $200K worth of gifts to needy moms to help start the giving-back and officially launch the Richie-Madden Children’s Foundation. Now, she’s announced plans to start an online gift registry for parents in need. From an interview in People magazine,

“We take for granted the basic necessities. For some families, it’s a serious struggle,” Richie tells People. “This is one way to ease the financial burden, and help new babies have a good start in life. We are only working with companies and products that Joel and I would use. We’re checking every product out for safety, and all products are BPA-free.”

Here’s how it will work: Families will sign up through local social service agencies. A list of baby products they need, such as cribs, strollers or blankets, will be posted on the Web site. Donors can view the wish-lists and choose what to contribute (much like a wedding or baby gift registry.)

The registry will initially only be availble in Los Angeles — but Nicole has expressed interest in making it a national service as well. The hope is that most of the products features will be the same ones her and Joel use with their 7-month-old daughter, Harlow.

Nicole Richie’s Germ Fears Lead To Organic Solutions

Filed under: babies and bumps — michael @ 10:44 am

Earlier last week, we mentioned how Katie Holmes efforts to sanitize an entire playground for her kid seemed a bit odd — but potentially normal for a first-time parent. Some readers also pointed out that the information was garnered from the National Inquirer; not necessarily known as a bastion of truth.

Today, we have similar news from, once more, the National Inquirer. Apparently, new mom Nicole Richie is so paranoid about germs that she washes everything twice to protect six -month old Harlow.

A source said: “Nicole double washes her daughter Harlow’s clothes and double sanitises her bottles, baby spoons - anything Harlow eats out of. “Even the cleaning supplies in the house have to be organic and non-toxic.” Fiance Joel Madden is reportedly concerned Nicole has become obsessed with keeping their home spotlessly clean.

Thoughts? Can you relate or is this taking things a little too far? If she must sanitize, at least she’s going about it using organic, non-toxic products. But is all of this too much of a good thing?

Nicole Richie’s Foundation Launches With $200K Gift

New and expecting moms receive surprise baby shower

Filed under: babies and bumps, donations — michael @ 8:54 am

richie-madden-foundation-27.jpg“The looks on their faces were priceless. Some of them didn’t even believe us [when they saw the gifts]. They thought we were joking. Everything (Baby Bjorn products, cribs, mattresses and toys from Fisher-Price) they got, we got, so everything that will be in their nursery, will be in our nursery.”

Nicole Richie and partner Joel Madden officially launched their Richie-Madden Children’s Foundation at the Los Angeles Free Clinic on Monday in Hollywood. To the incredible surprise of over 100 expectant and new moms, the foundation’s first order of business was to throw a massive baby shower. More than $200,000 worth of gifts were handed out to the bewildered groups of parents. From the article,

“‘We named it the Richie Madden Children’s Foundation because we each have families and our families are close, and our family is involved,’ Richie said. By her side with his arm stroking her back during moments in the conference, Madden quipped, ‘We’re lucky that we have families that get along and love each other,’ adding, ‘I think it’s great that our child will grow up as a part of that family.’”

What an absolutely wonderful moment for needy parents in the LA area. It’s great to see Joel and Nicole giving back and getting involved. As Madden said, “We don’t really get to share our lives with people. It’s nice to connect with people on a real level.”
