NBC Launching New ‘Green Your Routine’ Campaign With Eco-Stars

Filed under: television — stephanie @ 1:52 pm

Next Sunday, November 16th, kicks off NBC’s ‘Green Week’, when NBC Universal will host 150 hours of environmentally themed programming across the company’s television and digital platforms.”‘Green Your Routine’ is about educating consumers that it’s easy, practical and economical to be green,” said Beth Colleton, Vice President of Green Is Universal. “Asking consumers to help ’save the planet,’ or ‘clean up the oceans,’ sounds daunting to the individual. If everyone pledges to green even one simple aspect of their daily routines, such as walking to work, shopping with a reusable bag, or taking a shorter shower, together we can make a difference in our own lives and impact the environment.”

The ‘Green Your Routine’ campaign will feature celebs talking about what they do in their own lives to be more eco-friendly, and the line-up of participating talent is huge! Just a handful of the stars who will be giving their tips include John Krasinski of The Office, Jane  Krakoswki and Jack Brayer of 30 Rock, Masi Oka and Zachary Quinto of Heroes, Tori Spelling, Tiki Barber, Debra Messing, Ann Curry, Meredith Viera, Al Roker and the ladies of Lipstick Jungle.

Be sure to tune into NBC next week, Nov. 16th – 23rd, to catch all the celeb tips and green programming! Check out the whole list over at NBC ‘Green is Universal’.

John Krasinski’s New Film Going Green Behind The Scenes

John Krasinski’s new yet-to-be titled film (though the name Farlanders has been tossed around) is yet another example of Hollywood productions going the extra mile to reduce their environmental footprint. The comedy, which stars The Office’s John Krasinski — as well as an ensemble cast with the likes of Maya Rudolph, Jeff Daniels, and Maggie Gyllenhaal — follows the journey of an expectant couple, as they travel the U.S. in search of a place to put down roots and raise a family.

Here are some highlights of what the production is doing behind the scenes to go green:

>>Everything waste-related on set was separated into five categories: bottles, cans, plastic, compost, and paper

>>Production cameras were equipped with 3-perf film, which uses 25% less stock and chemicals in the manufacturing and processing. All costume cleaning used low-energy washers and dryers. Sound production used rechargeable batteries, while publicity stills will be distributed online instead of in paper press kits.

>>A large portion of the trucks carrying the cast and crew ran on Biodiesel 5, a petroleum diesel fuel blend that runs on recycled/collected cooking grease from local restaurants.

>>Catering used only organic food sourced from local suppliers, as well as biodegradable and recyclable diningware. SIGG bottles on set helped keep more than 10,000 plastic water bottles out of landfills.
