Remember when John McCain’s campaign manager blasted Barack Obama for drinking organic honest tea? It was an early indication of how ridiculous the McCain campaign would become — and a weak attempt to label the now-President as “elitist”.

Well, Obama is still a fan of Honest Tea — and has taken that love to the White House. According to MSNBC, “the refrigerators are stocked with the president’s favorite organic brew, Honest Tea, in Mr. Obama’s preferred flavors of Black Forest Berry and Green Dragon.”

You may be saying, “Eh, so what?” — but we champion any company that works the sustainable angle and champions social responsibility. It’s great to see such a brand make its way into the White House.

Four one-of-a-kind Cabbage Patch Kids dolls crafted in the likeness of presidential candidates Barack Obama and John McCain and vice presidential candidates Joe Biden and Palin will be auctioned on eBay until election day, November 4th.

“These four folks in particular seemed like the perfect candidates, if you will, to become one-of-a-kind Cabbage Patch Kids,” said Jakks Pacific Inc. spokeswoman Genna Rosenberg. “We’ve had a great history with making celebrity look-alikes with these Kids. We’ve done everyone from Elvis to Donald Trump to Ellen (DeGeneres) and Oprah (Winfrey).”

All of the proceeds from the auction will benefit the Marine Toys for Tots Foundation — which collects new, unwrapped toys and distributes them to needy kids during the holiday season. Check eBay for the start of the auction this coming Thursday, October 30th.

With so many celebrities stepping up to say no to Proposition 8

During an interview with the Christian Broadcasting Network, Palin said that she supported a Constitutional amendment that would ban same-sex unions. “I have voted along with the vast majority of Alaskans who had the opportunity to vote to amend our Constitution defining marriage as between one man and one woman,” she said.”I wish on a federal level that’s where we would go. I don’t support gay marriage.”

This view is contrary to the positions of her running mate, Senator John McCain — who believes states should be left to decide such matters.

It should be noted that Democratic Vice-Presidential nominee Joe Biden appeared on Ellen yesterday and publicly decried the Prop 8 amendment; calling it “regressive” and “unfair” and added that he and running mate Barack Obama opposed a similar initiative nationally.

Let’s hope America puts intolerance behind it this coming November and makes the right choice. It won’t put this matter to rest completely, but having two progressive, compassionate leaders in office would certainly be a step in the right direction.

Now, to be fair — McCain does own three 2000 NEV Gem electric vehicles, which are bubble-shaped cars popular in retirement communities. So, there’s a bit of environmentally-friendly cruising involved. Of course, McCain could be walking everywhere and it would still be overshadowed by the fact that his wife Cindy uses private jets like they’re bicycles. In July she quipped that “in Arizona the only way to get around the state is by small private plane.”

Oh yea — they’re just like us.

The political buzz is a stirrin’over John McCain’s vice presidential running mate, Sarah Palin. While the country is pretty much caught up on her lack of government experience, scandalous teenage daughter and oily intentions, one topic that hasn’t been covered so efficiently is her love for hunting. And this isn’t just like a once in a while kind of hunting — no, this is like serious business, shoot em up, go frigin wild kind of hunting.

Newsweek reported that Palin is “a lifelong hunter and strong proponent of Second Amendment rights.” As a member of the NRA, she has been quoted saying, “We hunt as much as we can, and I’m proud to say our freezer is full of wild game we harvested here in Alaska.” And the serial-killing intentions run in the family too! It turns out her own parents had just returned from hunting caribou when they discovered that she had been tapped as Sen. John McCain’s running mate. WOW!

A couple months ago, acting on secret Ecorazzi business, I attended a very exclusive green party here in New York City. The speaker of the evening basically told us that — without a doubt — the world is ending and our civilization is falling. Note to future speakers: world ending prophesies are a total buzz kill at parties, yo! We aren’t however without hope, he assured us. One thing that could make a solid impact on the environment is if we could revive our barely breathing rail system. I’ll tell you this: the speaker was NOT John McCain. See, Johnny Mac ain’t so fond of the old choo-choo business.

In Derrick Jackson’s recent piece in the Boston Globe, he points out that McCain has fought hard throughout his political career to essentially kill Amtrak anyway he can. It started first in 2000 when McCain was chairman of the Senate Science, Commerce and Transportation committee and cut $10 billion in capital funding for Amtrak. Flash forward to 2002 when McCain said that, “Amtrak should be restructured to eliminate its reliance on the American taxpayers and to allow for its privatization.”

When Bush’s fiscal 2006 budget did not include a subsidy for Amtrak and cut $250 million for railroad rehabilitation, McCain was quoted as saying, “I’m glad the president is coming over with a very austere budget.” And of course, on his website under “reforming our transportation sector,” he makes no mention of the evil railroad system.

Is McCain holding the country responsible for never getting that choo-choo train he asked Santa for as a child? Is Cindy afraid of conductor hats? I guess we’ll never know exactly why McCain thinks reviving the rail system is a dead issue, but like our current president (read: presiDON’T) it seems that McCain is already standing firm on his decisions…even if they’re the wrong ones.

I wonder if she was thinking green when she booked her flight at over 11,000 miles round trip, emitting around 4,800 pounds of CO2 into the atmosphere.  I do understand it was a work related trip since she has a line of designer fashionbags, but there needs to be a reduction in business flights with more of an emphasis and acceptance of teleconferencing, right?  Do you think Ms. Hilton considers her emissions before she books a flight?
