Two of the most notable awards were ‘Ultimate Eco Queen’ and ‘Ultimate Save the Planet Pioneer’, which went to Harriet Lamb and Emily Cummins, respectively. Harriet Lamb is director of the Fairtrade Foundation in the UK, and has helped raise awareness of the need for fair trade across the world.

Emily Cummins is the designer of a sustainable fridge which is now being used by some of the world’s poorest people to store medicine and food. She has also taught people in Africa how to make eco-friendly products.

Congratulations to Harriet and Emily, and also to the celebrity winners of other awards given at the celebration including ‘Ultimate Film Actress’ Kate Hudson, ‘Ultimate TV Actress’ America Ferrera and ‘Ultimate Icon’ Kim Cattrall.

Neither are the celebs featured in the book. The PR company that represents Tea Leoni, Kate Walsh, Felicity Huffman, Mary-Kate Olsen, and Melissa George has asked for their names to not be associated with the Leviev, and Oxfam Ambassador Kristin Davis has had her photo removed from Leviev’s website. New York rights coalition Adalah-NY has contacted others and asked them to renounce the company as well, including Susan Sarandon (who wrote the book’s introduction), Vanessa Williams, Kate Hudson, Molly Sims, and Gina Gershon.

An Oxfam America spokesperson, Adrienne Smith, said, “Oxfam reiterates our policy that we are not and never will be partners or beneficiaries of Leviev because of both his mining practices and his support of Israeli settlements on Occupied Palestinian Lands which is in contravention of International Law and a major obstacle in the road to peace… Oxfam is disturbed to find ourselves used in this way and we intend to be proactive in informing those in our community about the deliberate strategy of Leviev Diamonds to connect itself with unwitting charities and celebrities.”

Though the lawsuit hasn’t been settled (or dismissed) yet, Kate Hudson is still promoting her new hair-care line, David Babaii for WildAid. Not only is the actress actually using herself to test the products (Go Kate!), she’s also filming ads out in the bush with WildAid workers. “There was a black rhino right in front of our hut. It is one of the top on the endangered species list. It was so sad. It was all alone,” she said.

While the Atkins meat frenzy hasn’t completely left the planet yet, there are plenty of celebs who use veggie means when they’re dieting. Joan Lunden digs fresh fruit, Kelly Preston chows on oatmeal and bagels, Claudia Schiffer munches on salad and steamed vegetables, and Heidi Klum uses a salad with vinegar as an appetizer going out to restrain her appetite.

Molly Sims and Jennifer Jason Leigh are fans of Vert, L.A.’s first eco beauty boutique. Vert’s products are all chemical-free, mostly organic, and the store even holds makeup seminars and workshops to help customers lead more eco-friendly lifestyles.

Hudson’s shampoo is blended with volcanic ash, amongst other ingredients — and that’s the main problem. 200 Labs claims that the volcanic ash was their own secret ingredient. <Insert dramatic crescendo here>

Hudson, Babaii and their current manufacturer, Universal, have been charged misappropriation of trade secrets, breach of contract, breach of confidence and fraud in the legal documents.

With the media all over this, Hudson has understandably not been pleased with the suit or the accusations swirling. A spokesperson said the following on her behalf, “Kate does not know the plaintiffs and has never met with them or spoken with them. Her representatives believe that the claims are baseless and without merit and (they) intend to vigorously defend the lawsuit.”

Meanwhile, 200 Labs in seeking an injunction competitors’ use of their products — which we assume includes “David Babaii for WildAid”.

Looks like Kate Hudson is in some HOT water! Fox News is reporting (yuck) that 220 Laboratories Inc. has filed a lawsuit against Kate Hudson and business partner David Babaii over their new eco-friendly collection of shampoos and styling aids.

A couple months ago Ecorazzi told you all about Hudson’s new line that is made from “an exclusive blend of exotic ingredients free of sulfates, parabens, and animal testing.” Well it turns out that maybe some of those ingredients aren’t so exclusive after all…or so says 220 Laboratories.

The company is claiming that they were the only supplier of volcanic ash in the USA and entered an “oral contract” with the Hudson and Babaii to exclusively develop and manufacture the product. It was only after the agreement that the company revealed its secret ingredient, at which point Kate and David shopped the ash samples around to find a cheaper deal. Ouch!

The lawsuit bashes the duo, calling them “willful and malicious”, and accusing them of misappropriation of trade secrets, fraud, and breach of contract and confidence. BUT WHAT DO YOU THINK? Kate Hudson traveled with rumored boyfriend Lance Armstrong to a charity bike ride event called “Ride With Lance” over the weekend in Waterloo, Ontario. The event, which covered 117 kilometers, raised over $1 million dollars for cancer research. 

Amidst thunderstorms, Paul McCartney performed a charity concert saturday on Kiev’s Independence Square. The outdoor show was billed as the largest concert ever in the former Soviet republic. The reality TV series Big Brother is attempting to green for its 2008 run. The sixteen contestants will be required to grow their own vegetables and season their food from the communal garden. There will also be a large recycle bin in the kitchen. However, compared to the green efforts undertaken by this season’s Real World, these changes amount to a drop in the bucket.
