Sadly, Dean passed away in her sleep yesterday in Southampton, England — the same city the Titanic launched from in 1912. It’s yet unclear what will be done with the money raised for Millvina’s care (see the official site here), but we imagine it will be put to some good use in her memory.

The two actors have thrown their weight behind a fund that would subsidize 97-year-old Millvina Dean’s nursing home fees. She was only 2 months old when the Titanic sank beneath the waves on the night of April 14, 1912. Her father was one of the ship’s 1,517 casualties. She has been living at a nursing home in the English city of Southampton since she broke her hip about three years ago but has struggled to pay the fees.

“We are honoured to contribute to the Millvina Fund. Our hope is that others will feel inspired by Millvina Dean’s remarkable story of survival and hope she can rest easier in knowing that her future will become more secure through this fund,” DiCaprio and Winslet said in a joint statement. All three donated $10,000 each to the fund.

As Ecorazzi previously reported, Leona Lewis not only regularly speaks out against cruelty to animals, but seriously practices what she preaches!

Earlier this year, Leona rejected a more than $1.7 million offer from Harrods boss Mohammed Fayed to open a summer sale because the department store sells fur. About the incident, she told Hello! magazine: “I don’t have anything against the store or the owner – all I am against is fur. I think it’s totally cruel and I can’t endorse or support anything related to that as it’s against my beliefs, no matter what you pay me.”

Now, fresh after Kate Winslet’s fur controversy, Lewis is once again speaking out against the cruel product, saying: “It’s such an old school way of doing things. I can’t begin to imagine that people who know all these animals have been killed to make a coat can still wear it. There must be something seriously wrong with them.”

If you’ve seen the latest issue of Vanity Fair, you might have thrown-up a little when you noticed Kate Winslet posed naked on what looks like a real fur throw. Now obviously fur is the very worst of the worst, and generally when celebs support such cruel “fashion” they receive a major backlash from groups like PETA, the HSUS and of course Ecorazzi.

So why didn’t we pounce on Kate Winslet for her evil fur-wearing ways? Homegirl was tricked, yo!

Shortly after the issue came out, PETA contacted Kate and received a very prompt response from her rep assuring the organization that Mrs. Winslet never wears fur! The rep also confirmed that at the photo shoot Kate was guaranteed the very real fur was indeed fake – those cheeky bastards!
