The Bacon Brothers To Rock Your World At Global Green Expo

Kick off your Sunday shoes!

Filed under: music — michael @ 10:59 am

Kevin Bacon and his brother Michael have a rock band. Which is none too surprising considering the musical passions of other Hollywood stars like Gwyneth Paltrow, Nicole Kidman, Russell Crowe, and Keanu Reeves. What may come as a shock is that they’re pretty good. “We’ve been chipping away at that awareness, chipping away at the fact that most people think we’re gonna suck,” actor Kevin Bacon says on their official website.

And now The Bacon Brothers will be performing at the Global Green Expo this coming weekend at Liberty State Park in Jersey City. Also on hand will be Jeff Corwin, Deidre Imus, Ted Danson, and Ed Begley Jr. The expo — like many happening this week — will feature the latest “eco-friendly products, programs, services, and information from hundreds of exhibitors and nonprofit organizations.”

But back to Kevin — a big time supporter of environmental initiatives and charity campaigns — his SixDegrees.org foundation has been a great success, raising over $2 million so far. Last year, he also actively participated in the Live Earth concerts and pushed hard for NYC’s High Line initiative.

James Blunt, Kevin Bacon Are The New Sundance Ecoists

Filed under: green and famous — michael @ 1:35 pm

The Ecoists from Sundance’s THE GREEN is a series of one minute shorts where “today’s most active and recognizable environmental activists share ideas, information and enthusiasm about their cause of choice.” Obviously, these topics range from solar power to global warming to preservation of natural resources. This year’s participants include Sheryl Crow, Kevin Bacon, Laurie David, Sam Waterson, Carole King, Billy Baldwin, Stephanie Powers, James Blunt, Ron Livingston, Erykah Badu and Kerry Washington.

I’ve included Ron Livingston’s short on solar energy below — but check out James Blunt and Sam Waterson after the fold. The full list of currently released videos, can be found here.

The Ecorazzi Green Restaurant Review: Cafe Blossom

Filed under: ecorazzi exclusive, food & drink, green and famous, thegreenpicture — parrish @ 11:03 am

A couple weeks ago I was scanning through PageSix.com and saw that Michael Richards had been spotted dining at some new vegan restaurant on the Upper West Side. Then, a few days later, I was at a super swanky green party and after I passed on the hors devours (we vegans just assume) a friend said, “Dude, you can totally eat those, some new vegan restaurant on the Upper West Side is catering.” Well basically, I took all this as a sign from God and decided to pay this “new vegan restaurant on the Upper West Side”, also known as Café Blossom, a visit.

Working for Ecorazzi has a few perks (see also: free meals, interview with celebs, industry parties) and so I used some of my eco-power (it’s solar of course) and sat down with Craig Cochran, general manager of Café Blossom. Craig told me that not only is his restaurant totally vegan and also kosher, but they uphold some super green standards. For instance, all the take-out containers are corn based and 100% bio-degradable or made from post-consumer waste. The soap in the bathroom is organic and earth-friendly, as are all the cleaning products. Let’s also not forget they’re vegan and that the U.N has said, “raising animals for food generates more greenhouse gases than all the cars and trucks in the world combined.”

Rumor has it, that celebrities such as Kevin Bacon, Conan O’Brien and Matt Dillon have all been seen doing a little tofu-munching at Cafe Blossom… and I can definitely see why. The food was scrumptious and the atmosphere divine! I started with a Black Eyed Pea Cake that could make the most carnivorous soul drool, and worked my way to a Soy Bacon Cheeseburger with chipotle aioli. Craig also told me that coming soon Cafe Blossom will officially rock vegan soft serve “ice-cream”. HALLELUJAH!

So that’s it folks! The service was awesome, the food was delicious and the place was absolutely beautiful. If you live in New York, or just find yourself stopping by, I highly recommend you check out Cafe Blossom and see what all the fuss is about. Oh yeah, and tell them Ecorazzi sent you!

Adrian Grenier Dishes Out Some Hot Chow For The Hungry

Filed under: events, events: nyc, food & drink, green and famous — parrish @ 2:26 pm

adirangrenier.jpgIs Adrian Grenier becoming the Ecorazzi golden boy? It looks like it. Just a few days ago, Ecorazzi reported that Grenier would be going greener by hosting a new show for the Discovery Channel’s upcoming network, Planet Green. Well, it turns out this eco-star has a charitable side too.

This weekend Grenier took some time out of his busy schedule to head home to Brooklyn and volunteer at the Neighbors Together Soup Kitchen. Grenier made it a family affair by bringing along his mother and uncle to help pitch in. “It isn’t right that millions of families suffer from hunger and worry about getting their next meal. We all need to help in whatever way we can”, Grenier said while dishing out a couple of hot meals.

Not the first celebrity to roll up his sleeves for the sake of others, Kevin Bacon also participated in a similar event this month and was “shocked to see so many empty shelves in the Food Bank for New York City.”
