Stars Come Out in London to Celebrate ‘Ultimate Eco Queen’

Filed under: events: uk — stephanie @ 2:59 pm

Last night, celebrities like Kim Cattrall, Melanie ‘Scary Spice’ Brown, Myleene Klass and Dannii Minogue flocked to the Cosmo Ultimate Women of the Year Awards in London. The stars were recognizing the achievements of ‘real life’ women in categories like ‘Ultimate Survivor’, ‘Ultimate Against All Odds Star’ and ‘Ultimate Heroine’.

Two of the most notable awards were ‘Ultimate Eco Queen’ and ‘Ultimate Save the Planet Pioneer’, which went to Harriet Lamb and Emily Cummins, respectively. Harriet Lamb is director of the Fairtrade Foundation in the UK, and has helped raise awareness of the need for fair trade across the world.

Emily Cummins is the designer of a sustainable fridge which is now being used by some of the world’s poorest people to store medicine and food. She has also taught people in Africa how to make eco-friendly products.

Congratulations to Harriet and Emily, and also to the celebrity winners of other awards given at the celebration including ‘Ultimate Film Actress’ Kate Hudson, ‘Ultimate TV Actress’ America Ferrera and ‘Ultimate Icon’ Kim Cattrall.

Lenoa Lewis Turns Down $1.7 Million Offer From Harrods In Anti-Fur Protest

Filed under: animals, fashion — michael @ 11:08 am

leona lewisWhen it comes to sticking to your guns, it’s great to read stories of celebrities turning away from big paychecks to support a cause. Take Lenoa Lewis — she recently rejected a more than $1.7 million offer from Harrods boss Mohammed Fayed to open this year’s summer sale because the department store sells fur.

A vegetarian since she was 12, the singer was recently voted Peta’s World’s Sexiest Vegetarian Celebrity. Obviously, she’s got a lot to represent with a title like that — but Lewis says the decision came easy. “I’m totally against animal cruelty,” she said. “I don’t have clothes, shoes or bags made from any animal products.”

New rumors also point to the 23-year-old being in talks with Sir Philip Green about creating a range of non-leather bags and shoes for Topshop. Could she be a new budding challenger to Stella McCartney?

Anyways, for those wondering who decided to take over the “ugly honors” in opening the store — they went to Sex and the City star Kim Cattrall. This is pretty surprising, since Kim has decried the use of fur before and has worked with PETA. I guess we now know how much it takes to buy her support.

Kim Cattrall Gets Down And Dirty With Mr. Beach

Filed under: green and famous — parrish @ 11:56 am

Sure Kim Cattrall is my mother’s age, but she’s still dreamy…especially when she gets all activisty on me.

In recent news, this past weekend Kim was photographed picking up random trash.  While I realize “picking up random trash” could actually mean a lot when referring to the comings and goings of Hollywood celebs, I mean she was literally picking up random trash while on her trip to the beach.

In the past, Ecorazzi has reported on Cattrall donating fur coats to PETA and participating in the Heart Truth Red Dress event, but now she’s taken it a step further by literally getting down and dirty for the sake of Mr. Beach. (Again, I understand that previous sentence could totally be misconstrued).

Thanks Kim for being a pal and doing your part. We salute you!

Kim Cattrall Sends Samantha’s Furs To PETA

Filed under: animals, movies — michael @ 5:30 pm

kim.jpgA couple weeks ago, images leaked from the set of the Sex and the City film with Kim Cattrall’s character, Samantha, upset over red paint thrown on her white fur coat. The scene had some unnamed off-screen organization dousing the actress and decrying the use of animal pelts. Amazingly, four separate fur coats were required to shoot that one scene!

Now Cattrall, who in real life does not endorse or wear fur, has made arrangements to have the coats shipped to PETA once filming is complete. As they’ve done with the more than 15,000 fur coats they’ve received over the past 15 years, the animal rights org will donate the coats to the homeless — but not before making a few modifications of their own. From the article,

“‘The only people who can be excused for wearing fur are the homeless-to keep warm during the winter,’ says PETA rep Michael McGraw. And yes, PETA cleans the pelts to get rid of the red paint. However, the group shaves a section down and covers it with a PETA patch because, says McGraw, ‘It drastically reduces its resale value.’
