New information has surfaced regarding Laurie David’s “Oops I Did It Again” wetlands violation at her Martha’s Vineyard manse. As we previously wrote, the environmental activist was cited again for violating the state Wetlands Protection Act while building a tennis court. Our theory that David probably wasn’t aware of the violation turned out to be correct — as the contractor in charge of the construction took the blame. “She’s obviously a very busy person and she trusted the contractor,” said David’s contractor Bart Thorpe told the Martha’s Vineyard Gazette. “And I inadvertently made a mistake. It’s something she had no knowledge of and had nothing to do with, and it’s a minor thing.”

That “minor thing” ended up costing David $900 in fines — $300/day until a restoration plan was submitted. In the latest incident, boards and rocks were laid over wetlands to create a road enabling heavy equipment to get to the site of the tennis court.

Said Jacqueline Mendez-Diez, a neighbor of David’s, “This latest infraction came to light when a former David employee reported the violations to the town’s Conservation Officer. Otherwise, because it is such a secluded area, no one would know about it. Historically, Laurie David’s violations of the WPA have come to light in precisely this manner of a former employee finally coming forward to report illegal wetlands abuses.”

Just over three years ago, environmental activist Laurie David had neighbors on Martha’s Vineyard seeing red after she was cited for endangering protected wetlands.

Just over three years ago, environmental activist Laurie David had neighbors on Martha’s Vineyard seeing red after she was cited for endangering protected wetlands. The Vineyard’s Chilmark Conservation Commission reprimanded the Davids for building a “26-foot-long barbecue station, stone-and-concrete bonfire pit, and outdoor theater on an environmentally sensitive patch of their 14-acre North Road property without the proper permits.” The Davids laid blame for the violations on their former property manager — and were eventually forced to return the area to its natural state.

Now — according to neighbor Jacqueline Mendez-Diez — Laurie David’s property has once more been found in violation of the Wetlands Protection Act. From her email:

“I’ve just returned from a Chilmark Conservation Commission meeting here on Martha’s Vineyard. Laurie David has again broken the law and seriously violated the Wetlands Protection Act on her Chilmark property. This is the second time in two years, in exactly the same area, that Laurie David has had wetlands violations in this spot on her land. There wasn’t even a Notice of Intent filed here. The Commission has issued an enforcement order with an immediate cease and desist for further work on the property, a demand for a snow fence to be put around the damaged area, removal of all heavy construction equipment, and a daily fine until the property is put back in the condition it was before this latest damage.”

If this is true, it’s interesting that David would once more consider construction in an area that got her into trouble in the first place. Obviously, much like the previous infraction, we believe it’s probably a matter of permits not properly being filed. David is a strong conservationist and this latest rift likely has less to do with her and more with the people running her construction management.

Still, it doesn’t make it any less embarrassing. Again.

I have to hand it to Josh Rachlis — the won’t give up. Just about two years ago, he offered global warming activist Laurie David a marriage proposal via online video. To cap it off, he even made her a ring made from a cap off a carton of juice. It was touching — and it chokes me up today just thinking about it.

Apparently, Josh never received his answer from Laurie — which in his eyes is a sign of hope that he might still have a shot. To get his message across even clearer, he’s released a new video — this time in the form of a hip-hop rap. It’s really well done and we hope Laurie, somewhere, somehow, and for some reason is watching. Good luck, Josh (Again)!

Today Glamour magazine’s big 70th Anniversary issue hit the stands, and I’m happy to say that you can find me inside. My face is smaller than my pinkie fingernail, but I’m pleased to be there nonetheless!

It’s all part of a photo with an incredible group of women for the article, “70 New Reasons to Live Green“. The photo was taken back in October, if you can believe it. Glamour filled Tavern on the Green with 70 of the greenest ladies around. Only now am I able to see exactly who I was in the same room with. While there I had a chance to finally meet many people we’ve been writing about and talking to for years now.

Q’Orianka Kilcher was one of the first that I spotted in the crowd. She had recently been to visit the sea of trash off of Alaska, and from what she describes, it was something like this. I also finally was able to meet Rachelle Carson Begley, our fave gal from Living with Ed. I had breakfast near Taniya Nayak of HGTV, and admired Alicia Silverstone and Christie Brinkley from afar. And yes, Christie DOES look that good in person. They all do. Though someone pointed out to me that all of the celebs amongst us looked like normal people…just with more makeup and a posse carrying their coats. Speaking of make-up, I chatted with Jessa Blades, organic makeup artist who has included the “do not buy” list of ingredients on the back of her biz card (nice touch!). I stayed away from Laurie David, as I was a little nervous of our coverage of her divorce a couple of years ago, and I never did get a chance to say hello to Josie Maran.

Of course, the crowd wasn’t all celebs. There were business owners, non-profit gurus, and even other bloggers. Past ecorazzi contributor Margaret Teich was representing gspotting.net. I stood between an architect and a farmer. Both ridiculously taller than me. There are many more that I can’t even list. Though I can’t believe that Leo’s mom was there and I didn’t know it.

And now for my wish list. I wish that we would have been given the opportunity to understand who we were amongst. A day of networking – I mean we were all in the same spot! What an opportunity missed to just take a photo and all go our separate ways. Finally, I understood that this was going to be an integral part of the Glamour 70th Anniversary issue. It certainly sounds practically worthy of a cover shot, doesn’t it? I get it – Katie Holmes, typical cover set up…keep it traditional. But not even a mention on the cover? I can see how we can’t beat out “The New Sex Position That Works Every Time” (note to self, check page 256 later)…but “10 Extra-Pretty Beauty Tricks Anyone Can Do” beats out 70 awesome eco-chicks? Come on! We’re on page 193 if you can’t find us.

I appreciate the opportunity, and I think it’s a wonderful concept. I hope you enjoy! We’d love to hear your comments!

Unless of course, there are some of you out there older than 100. If so, I need to update Ecorazzi’s demographics.

Anyways, it’s time to celebrate! SIGG turns 100 years young this year and to mark the occasion are launching Sigg100 — a new site that explores the 100 most significant eco-moments of the past century. Here’s what’s going down:

Visitors to www.sigg100.com will also have an opportunity to chat directly with environmental activists through SIGG Switzerland’s bi-monthly Q&A series. Chat hosts include Academy Award winning producer and author Laurie David; acclaimed actor and environmental enthusiast, Ed Begley Jr.; The Oprah Winfrey show and NBC Nightly News environmental contributor P. Simran Sethi; Founder of EcoFabulous.com and Domino Magazine’s eco-editor Zem Joaquin; and Executive Director of Healthy Child Healthy World, Christopher Gavigan.

Regulars to the site will also have an opportunity to win a free trip to Hawaii to attend the two day Kokua Festival. This is the same music jam hosted by Jack Johnson on April 19th and 20th in honor of Earth Day.

We congratulate SIGG on their centennial anniversary! Don’t forget to pay a visit this coming Monday for the start of their Eco 100 Greatest Moments! The trip down memory lane will end on Earth Day, April 22nd.
