Fonda, the founder of G-CAPP, said, “This event will substantially support one of our most important initiatives and simultaneously raise awareness for the G-CAPP organization. I am excited about this innovative event as it will help our flagship program, Second Chance Homes, and address the issue of homelessness for teen mothers. I believe that this unique event will help fight against teen pregnancy in Georgia.”

G-CAPP’s Second Chance Homes Program provides housing and support for young mothers and works to help bring these mothers and their families out of the cycle of poverty.

Welsh TV presenters Rhodri and Lucy Owen, along with new baby Gabriel, are leading the George Thomas Hospice Annual Walk in the Park. Walkers are encouraged to walk for their local hospice; the Owen family is supporting Cardiff Hospice.

Sharon Stone isn’t all bad, as PETA might think. Along with James Caan and Joe Pesci, the actress has helped the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation (EGPAG) Celebrity Golf Classic raise over $5 million. This year’s tournament will be held on October 6.

At last week’s third annual Hot in Hollywood Benefit lots of stars came out to play and raise funds for the AIDS Healthcare Foundation. Among them were host America Ferrera, Jaime Pressly, Neil Patrick Harris, Elijah Kelley, Jason Biggs, and Emily Deschanel.

World Heavyweight Champion CM Punk joined the Chicago Cubs in supporting the Organic School Project last week during the fifth annual Kerry Wood’s Strike Zone Celebrity Bowling Tournament.

Country crooners Tim McGraw, John Rich and Dierks Bentley will be kicking off Bentley’s annual Miles & Music for Kids celebrity motorcycle ride and concert on October 5. The five-hour ride will benefit Vanderilt Children’s Hospital. For more info or to find out how to get tickets, click here.

Alas, such is the case of what went down during a recent episode of Battleground Earth starring Tommy Lee and Ludacris. I haven’t actually seen the clip in question, but based on what I’ve read online, apparently Ludacris orders up a private jet to catch up to Tommy Lee (who left early from a previous contest in New Orleans.) The two then arrive at the same time to greet Gene Simmons in a cemetery for a little lesson on green burial.

Nice move, Luda.

Also, what’s up with all the GMC Yukons in this show? They’re probably hybrids — but how about throwing these guys into some more sustainable transport?

Finally, reps for Cheeta the Chimp are going bananas after their beloved star of 12 Tarzan films was passed over for a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame — in favor of one for Absolut Vodka! I’m highly intrigued by small, off-site spaces that are both eco-friendly and private. Sort of like little green bungalows. In fact, last summer I wrote an article titled “Five Crazy Cool Eco Spaces For The Ultimate Retreat” over on GroovyGreen listing my favorites. Looks like I might now have to add the Lifepod to that group.

The Lifepods are 10-foot-by-12-foot solar integrated building systems that can be used as an office, pool house, shed, or whatever other creative uses you can think of. Tommy Lee and Ludacris both became intimately involved with the units after competing against one another to see who could build one the fastest. That challenge is just one of many green contests that will be shown as part of their new series on Planet Green, Battleground Earth. From the release,

“The Envision Solar team works alongside Ludacris and Tommy Lee in fast-pace competition to see which team can use the power of the sun to get their names up in lights. Once built, Envision Solar will donate both solar LifePod™ sheds to Battleground Baptist Church in New Orleans, Louisiana.

‘It’s so gratifying to provide the LifePods™ to Battleground Baptist Church so they can add useable space and generate clean energy,’ said Envision Solar’s Chairman and CEO Bob Noble. ‘Envision Solar had a great time teaming up with Ludacris and Tommy Lee. It was a lot of fun to see the LifePods™ take shape in a matter of hours.’

Each pod generates about 170 watts of solar energy and consists of 16 panels — about enough to power a small, single family home. The lower energy bills as a result will benefit the Battleground Church for years to come.

No word yet on who actually won the building contest. We’ll have to wait until the series premieres on August 3rd to find out.

Another interesting trend are famous folk offering retreats to those celebs in need. Last month, it was Mel Gibson giving Britney Spears some time at his ranch in Costa Rica. This time, Johnny Depp has offered Lindsay Lohan free use of his island in the Caribbean. Rocker Bruce Springsteen offered Discovery Exec David Zaslav some brand-building advice for the network while over dinner recently. The boss apparently told Zaslav that he needs to “make people fall in love” — much in the way that the Planet Earth series made people love the planet more. Ludacris and Tommy Lee have created a hilarious trailer for their Battleground Earth series. Jump to it here. 

Tommy Lee, Ludacris, Adrian Grenier, and a bevy of other celebs, turned out in style this week to launch “Planet Green,” the first and only 24-hour eco-friendly lifestyle and entertainment television network, courtesy of Discovery Communications. The star-studded event, which also raised money for the reforestation of historic Griffith Park in Los Angeles, recently destroyed by wildfires, commenced with a tree planting by Los Angeles Mayor, Antonio Villaraigosa, Tommy Lee, and Ludicris.

The green carpet was brimming with eco-conscious celebs, all bustling about the new network, and their various shows. Adrian Grenier showed up with his Alter Eco team, Angela Lindvall, Boise Thomas, and Darren Moore. “These are people I’ve met over the years, who are all living responsibly and want to share their ideas on how to live more responsibly but in a fun excited way, in a more connected way, and that’s what we’re all doing here together.”

Tommy Lee was all aglow about his show with Ludacris, Battleground Earth, and their journey across the country to educate people on how to save the planet. Things to watch out for during their August 3rd launch include seeing them make fuel out of cow poop! Sexy!

Maria Menounos, of Access Hollywood was fabulous in eco-fashion and brimming with enthusiasm about her new show, Green Hollywood. It’s the first show to kick off the new network and is a look at Hollywood and celebrity in the green movement.

Dee Snyder of Twisted Sister who rocked out in a fantastic recycled coat by “Forgotten Saints,” goes to great lengths to neutralize his carbon footprint, whilst Keenan Ivory Wayans is getting ready to build an LEED certified house from scratch in an effort to show us how to have all that you need whilst still being healthy and mindful of the planet.

Other celeb attendees included Wasted team, Annabel Gurwitch and Holter Graham who are on a mission to reduce peoples’ carbon footprint by 20% and save them money, and Battleground Earth’s Diggidy Dave who was extolling the virtues of traveling the country by bus with Tommy Lee, in an effort to bring awareness to the plight of the planet.

Further love was given by Tom Green, Josie Maran, Summer Rayne Oakes, Olesya Rulin of High School Musical fame, “Take Home Chef’s” Curtis Stone, and the rock band, Vegan Vixens, who were thrilled to have decked out both Tommy Lee and Ludicris with fab faux fur jackets.

The revelry ended with a mind-blowing rock concert under the stars, and the general consensus that it’s good to be green!

I guess when you have Tommy Lee and Ludacris involved in promoting sustainability, the same old stunts just won’t cut it.

Take for instance this bizarre gathering going down later on this afternoon at Planet Hollywood in Las Vegas. In an effort to promote water conservation, the famous drummer and his rapper competitor will attempt to break the record for largest group shower — which makes little sense when you realize it’s all happening in the hotel pool. Semantics aside, the stunt does have the blessing of the Las Vegas Valley Water District — which says the pool will later be drained, the water processed, and recycled into Lake Mead. If your tap tastes a bit like Tommy Lee later on, you’ll know why. From the article,

“Ludacris and Lee are inviting fans to join them at the Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino pool on 19 May for a bid on the clean record. But the two hellraisers are keen to keep the shower a family affair – and they’ve asked that all those hoping to take part bring and wear a bathing suit.”

Anyone want to bet how long the clothing rule lasts?

But the big question: Is this eco-friendly? Not really. I mean, the message of water conservation may be pushed at the event, but chances are 90% of the people already there will have showered in the morning anyways — and will shower again afterwards. We’ll have to see what goes down later to truly judge, but hopes aren’t high at this point to expect anything more than a Guinness certificate.

We get to experience a lot of cool private events as part of our hussle to deliver the latest green gos — but often times, we can only share with everyone through the one-dimensional limitations of the Internet. Not this time! Tickets are available to the public from Ticketmaster or at the box office of the Greek Theater — but before you purchase, we also want to give you the opportunity to attend like a star. Before the concert starts at 8pm, you’ll be ushered down the green carpet at six (after getting free parking — awesome!) and into the VIP party happening outside the theatre. You’ll party there for two hours and then receive great seats for the concert. Besides Tommy Lee and Ludacris, performers will also include Train, Switchfoot, members of Velvet Revolver, Bowling for Soup, Too Short, Blue Man Group, Robbie Krieger from the Doors, Billy Gibbons from ZZ Top and Planet Green celebrities.

As Planet Green’s reality series Battleground Earth films its way across the US, several local newspapers are chiming in with local reaction and giving insight into some of the ‘battles’ we can expect.

For those not in the know, the series will follow rocker Tommy Lee going up against rapper Ludacris in a struggle to see who can be the most eco-friendly. Both gents — while admitting they have some light shades of green — don’t come from heavy backgrounds on the subject and are excited to learn more — while also hopefully educating others.

Anyways, the odd green couple pulled into Dallas, Texas, film crew in tow, and not surprisingly low on biodiesel fuel for their buses. So, their mission was to get to Keller’s Drive-In and sell as many burgers and fries as possible to generate the most grease-convertible-to-biofuel. From the article,

“Under the direction of several bullhorn-bellowing directors, the rapper and the rocker were instructed to engage in some trash-talking over who would accumulate the most orders for everything from Keller’s tater tots and hulking burgers to those ever-popular corn dogs — all in the name of creating fuel-producing kitchen grease. Having dispensed with the taunts, each star sprinted toward in-coming cars.

‘I will give $20 to the person who can eat the most corn dogs,’ Ludacris announced. And the gathering crowd began to chant his name, clearly in approval of his scheme.”
