Mariah Carey Gets A Recycled Engagement Ring. We Say: AWESOME!

Word circulating the gossip rags today is that Mariah Carey’s massive rock (courtesy of her new engagement to Nick Cannon) is actually the same ring that Cannon used to propose to his previous GF Selita Ebanks.

People are calling it “tacky!” and “unbelievable!” — but through our green-tinted glasses, it’s a score for the eco world and an impressive display of recycling. You go Mariah!

Walmart’s New Green Albums Will Grow Wildflowers

For those that still actually buy CDs...

As part of Walmart’s “Earth Month” promotion, Universal Music Group is including 20 inserts in new and popular albums that when planted will sprout into wildflowers. This is a hell of a lot cooler than the standard grass seed packaging we’re used to seeing. And as we’ve mentioned before, UMG has been making some welcomed green changes over the past couple years to become more environmentally-friendly. Goodbye jewel cases! From the release,

“All of the albums from Universal Music Enterprises (UMe), the U.S. catalog and special markets entity for UMG, will be offered in the new REPAK(R) CD package, an all paperboard option containing third-partycertified, renewable recycled board and recyclable paper. The REPAK’sdesign features a unique recessed cavity to hold the disc snugly and safelyin place, completely eliminating the need for a plastic hub or tray. It is part of the greenchoice(TM) Environmental Solutions program from Shorewood Packaging, a business of International Paper. For the previously released compilation albums, the new packaging will replace the jewel box version of each title. Those albums (see list below) will also include the wildflower insert offering three free digital downloads from a select number of UMe catalog tracks.”

Popular artists that included in the new green makeover include Sheryl Crow, Mariah Carey, Janet Jackson, and the Counting Crows.

Mariah Carey And The Nasty Pollution Diet!

Mariah Carey’s new album is entitled E=MC2. However, I’d argue that a more appropriate title might be E=C02.

Recently when Mariah was asked about her sudden weight loss, she explained: “I got too bulky. Now I’m down to my 11th grade size after lots of hard work with my personal trainer Patricia.”

Patricia, huh? Who in the world is this mysterious Patricia who keeps raspy pop stars in skinny jeans? Mariah continued:  “Patricia lives in St. Barts, poor girl. People say to me, ‘Only you would fly someone from St. Barts in the Caribbean to New York to work out’.”

EEEEK!!!! Mimi is flying her personal trainer in from St. Barts to New York for each training session?!?!?!?!? Zoinks, Scoob! Now I like Mariah’s figure as much as the next dude, but are those lovely lady lumps really worth all that wasted C02? Me don’t think so!

The Green Picture: What Is Mariah Carey Holding?

Mariah Carey’s cover art for her new album E=MC2 has just been released — and for the sake of argument, we’re wondering what you think she’s holding. Speculation around the web say it’s fur — which would put her squarely in the crosshairs of PETA. However, it could also be a really furry blanket — which just happens to look like it was peeled off a polar bear. We’re just trying to figure out what the hell E=MC2 means in Mariah terms…could it be she digs it just because it contains her initials?

[UPDATE] Thank you kind readers for shedding light that this is a boa — and does not appear at all to be something related to the fur industry. You rock. You too, Mariah.

Second Annual Idol Gives Back To Include Pitt, Bono, Underwood

With last year’s first ever Idol Gives Back generating $76 million for charity, organizers are ramping up this year’s efforts to include even more celebrity power. The night’s line-up includes Bono, Brad Pitt, Reese Witherspoon, Miley Cyrus, Mariah Carey, Eli Manning, Peyton Manning, Fergie, Chris Daughtry, Carrie Underwood, Annie Lennox, John Legend and Snoop Dogg. [Ed note: Because nothing says family entertainment like Snoop Dogg.]

While no charities or organizations have been named yet as beneficiaries of the event, there no doubt will be a wide range of groups set to take part. From the article,

“While last year’s two-hour show was spread over the course of two nights, this time around, “Idol Gives Back” has been condensed to a one-night, but still two-hour, show. It airs Apr. 9.”

I haven’t watched Idol for a few seasons, but I love the idea of leveraging the massive audience numbers to help make a difference for charities. For more info, check out the official site here.

Celebrities Donate Gowns For The 27 Dresses Charity Auction

What do Kylie, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Amy Winehouse and Renee Zellweger have in common? They’re all donating gowns to the 27 Dresses Celebrity Dress Auction…starting today! 

The auction is going live on eBay tonight at 7pm and will help raise funds for the Lavender Trust charity- a group supporting women suffering with breast cancer. All the dresses will be sold on eBay at three-day intervals until the release of the film.

Many of the donations are well known red carpet dresses, and straight off the backs of people like Mariah Carey, Geri Halliwell, Thandie Newton, Naomi Campbell and Heidi Klum. 

Obviously, the auction comes just in time for the release of Katherine Heigl’s latest film, 27 Dresses, which will hit nationwide March 27th (insert obvious plug here).
