Some green Hollywood celebrities are jumping on board a new campaign from the Environmental Media Association to help introduce organic gardening in LA schools. According to the EMA, the organization and Yes To Inc. will directly support a number of school gardens through funding and celebrity mentoring from members of EMA’s Young Hollywood Board.

“I grew up with community gardens in my neighborhood, so I know how important they can be for kids. I am very excited to be supporting the Environmental Media Association’s new project to support organic gardens in LA schools,” EMA Board Member Rosario Dawson told Access Hollywood.

The actress will be joined by Amy Smart, Nicole Richie, Maroon 5, Lance Bass, Matthew Rhys, Olivia Wilde and Maria Menounos. “Organic gardens are so important, especially in urban areas where many students would otherwise never see any greenery,” Bass, 30, told PEOPLE. “I hope that the Environmental Media Association’s support will help them to grow and flourish in Los Angeles.”

School have been on the receiving end of a number of green projects this year — including Global Green’s “Green Schools Initiative“. Great to see young people getting involved in organic projects like this one.

It’s been a great week here in D.C., with so many celebs running from party to party that I’ve got to wonder whether the paparazzi who remained in New York and Los Angeles have anything to do.

Our week started on Sunday, with the Carrie Fisher-hosted Obama Pajama Party, a benefit for the Pajama Program, an organization that puts toasty PJs into the hands of needy children throughout this great land of ours. Among the celebs we bumped into included Bruce Cohen, the producer of Milk and TV’s reigning prince of deadpan, Mo Rocca. Last night, inauguration eve, we headed over to the National Portrait Gallery for the second Green Gala in as many nights. This one, hosted by Vice President Al Gore himself, featured performances by Will.i.am, Maroon 5 (whose lead singer, Adam Levine, is pictured here, Melissa Etheridge and John Legend. Tonight’s big shindig is the Creative Coaltion ball, with a glittering guest list, including Anne Hathaway, Susan Sarandon and Tim Robbins, Sting, Maggie Gyllenhaal and a host of others. For more photos of the Pajama Party and the Green Ball, visit new york insider tv.

OK, so I just threw up a little bit in my mouth! Rumor has it that on October 24th, a whole mess of celebrities will check their morals at the door to celebrate the 25th Anniversary of the Breeders’ Cup

In case you don’t know, the Breeders’ Cup is an annual series of Grade I thoroughbred horse races that take place in a different city each year. To celebrate it’s return to Los Angeles, stars like Kurt Russell, Dennis Hopper, Jerry O’Connell, Allison Janney, Maroon 5 and DJ Joel Madden are coming together to celebrate in the spirit of animal abuse.

It’s estimated that around 800 racehorses die each year from fatal injuries suffered on US racetracks and approximately 3,566 sustain injuries so bad that they cannot finish their races. What happens if a horse fails to win? Most of the time a “losing” horse is sent to a slaughter, where operators sell the horse’s flesh overseas for human consumption, or provide horsemeat to glue factories.

So a big thumbs down to all those Hollywood stars who are choosing to publicly support this wacky tradition of wasteful cruelty. Way to go, you guys! If you’re that desperate to watch a race, tune into the presidential debates. At least there the loser won’t be sent to slaughter!
