In an effort to ruin our planet just a lit bit more, Michael Jordan has released his own line of steaks, chops and general debauchery for the red-meat loving so and so in your life.

Say what you want about the meat-industry, but it’s absolutely undeniable that beef just might just be the very worst thing for the environment since Sarah Palin. With its resource-sucking capabilities, beef makes a Boeing 727 look like a hybrid car. And Michael Jordan is eager to contribute…for a price.

On his site you will find “cleverly” named meat products, including a $449.95 “Dream Team” package which includes a schmorgisborg of Jordan’s “best” heart-attack inducing cuisine.

If you ask me, vegetarian athlete extortionate John Salley should release HIS own line of seitan steaks for the more environmentally-conscious diners of the world. But hey, that’s just me!

What do you think about Jordan’s new business venture? Will you be purchasing some Jordan beef? Chime in and share your thoughts!!

Why is this a big deal, you may ask? Proceeds will going to Touching Tiny Lives, an organization that’s researching premature birth.

Coca-Cola’s going green? I really doubt it, but they seem to be making some efforts: they’re giving every athlete at the Olympics a t-shirt or visor made from cotton and recycled polyethylene terephthalate (yeah, the stuff their product comes in). These items are from their new “sustainable fashion” line, which, though I’m still skeptical, would be a really cool thing from them. Not to mention a good money move, right? Selling products, getting their containers recycled–then using them to sell yet another product?

Former Chicago Bears quarterback Jim McMahon is hosting a two-day celebrity charity event before Super Bowl XLIII at Lakewood Ranch Golf and Country Club. The celebrity golf tournament (yep, another one!) will be benefiting the Wounded Warrior Battalion, the Lynda McMahon Ferguson Memorial Foundation for Literacy and the Lakewood Ranch Community Fund. Though the official list of star players hasn’t been announced, invites have been given to Michael Jordan, Charles Barkley, Brett Favre, and others.

Famous and fabulous eco designer Katherine Hamnett is saving the sea. Celeb fans of Hamnet, such as Sarah Jessica Parker and Naomi Campbell, might be interested in her new line of ethical-as-ever shirts associated with the Environmental Justice Foundation’s campagin against pirate fishing. “We get 98% of our oxygen from the sea; the sea is dying because of pollution and environmental degradation,” says Hamnett. For more details or to buy something from the collection click here.

Even when the commercials told me to, I never REALLY wanted to “Be Like Mike.” But lately I’m starting to rethink my decision.

Nike is set to release the 23rd version of it’s popular shoe, the Air Jordan, at the end of January. 23 was Michael Jordan’s number for most of his NBA career, and so to honor the man with the foot, the AJXX3 will be the first shoe in the company’s history designed to reduce waste and incorporate environmentally friendly materials.

For example, instead of the AJXX3 requiring the usual nasty glue and ozone layer crushing adhesives, Nike is coming up with an innovative new system of interlocking panels which will do the job without causing as much harm. In fact, they built brand new machines just to make this shoe an environmental success.

Tinker Hatfield (the worst name maybe ever), Nike’s V.P of Innovation Design and Special Projects, said, “We pissed off a lot of people at the factory because this wasn’t business as usual,” and estimates that “Within six months, you’ll see other [basketball shoe] companies following our lead.”

So how do you get Jordan’s new eco-sneaks? Wait the hell in line like everyone else, dammit! Starting on Jan. 25, 23 retailers will each receive 23 pairs of AJXX3’s that will cost you $230. They’re really obsessed with this 23 theme, huh? And then on Feb. 23rd (again with the 23) they’ll be available on mainstream shelves.

Are you as impressed as I am? Tell Ecorazzi what you think about this new green shoe! I expect 23 comments!
