Nigel Barker’s traveling exhibition of his documentary film and photo project, ‘A Sealed Fate?’ recently debuted in Amsterdam — and celebrities like Paul Iacono of FAME, DJ Josh Madden (brother of Benji & Joel Madden), Dutch actresses Georgina Verbaan and Marian Mudder, and Dutch TV presenter Peter Van Der Voorst were in attendance.

Barker’s exhibit provides an intimate look at the short lives of baby harp seals victimized by Canada’s annual commercial seal hunt. You can find out more information on the Protect Seals campaign here.

Fashion designer and America’s Next Top Model judge Nigel Barker is picking up the old camera and getting involved with an ad campaign to help the millions of people suffering with breast cancer.

Barker is working with Fashion Targets Breast Cancer (FTBC) — an organization considered to be the “worldwide fashion community’s singular and most successful response to breast cancer.”

To celebrate their 15th anniversary, the Council of Fashion Designers of America is working with QVC to launch QVC Designer Charms for Charity.  Barker helped the cause by doing a shoot for the campaign with model Veronica Webb.  According to Nigel’s blog:

“The shoot was a blast with everyone doing their bit in support of the great cause. Milk Studios donated the studio and equipment, Veronica Webb was my model (lucky me!) and of course raises the profile of the charms campaign significantly.”

The charms will be priced from about $20 to $100 and 100 percent of net proceeds will go to FTBC. Visit FashionTargetsBreastCancer.org to learn more!

Warm up those clapping hands! It’s time to celebrate some of our favorite animal-loving stars!

On Thursday a slew of celebrities will be honored at Celebrity Catwalk — a special charity fashion show to raise money for National Animal Rescue.

The Catwalk will be hosted by Girls Next Door star Bridget Marquardt and will honor Heather Mills, Nigel Barker, Grammy award-winning singer Mya and Kimora Lee Simmons.

According to their site:

“Between 6-8 million dogs and cats enter shelters each year. Proceeds from Celebrity Catwalk go directly to non-profit organizations who work tirelessly to put a dent in those staggering statistics.”

The Humane Society of the United States is stepping up their campaign to end the seal hunt in Canada. Last week, we featured an event held in NYC by Nigel Barker with celebrities like Khloe Kardashian, Carmen Electra, and Brody Jenner in attendance. This week, the HSUS invited some younger stars to learn more about the cause and join the boycott of Canadian seafood until the hunt is stopped.

In attendance were celebs like Erin Lucas of MTV’s The City, Krysten Ritter and Connor Paolo of Gossip Girl, Katrina Bowden of 30 Rock and Donny Klang of Making The Band. The last two even designed exclusive totes for SocialDesigner.com, which will be sold online with proceeds benefiting nine different causes and their charities of choice. The event took place at the Extreme Wow Suite at W New York.

Looks like Khloe Kardashian is truly embracing the animal rights scene.

Earlier this year, the Keeping up with the Kardashians star appeared in PETA’s “I’d Rather Go Naked Than Wear Fur” campaign. On Wednesday evening, she attended Nigel Barker’s Save The Seals event — intended to raise awareness on the plight of seals skinned for their fur. Writing on her blog she said,

On Wednesday night, before I went to Maxim’s Hot 100 party, I went to Nigel Barker’s Save the Seals event. Nigel is truly an incredible man — so influential and the work he’s done for these beautiful, harmless creatures is truly amazing!!! After teaming up with the Humane Society [of the United State], Nigel went to Canada to document the birth, growth and death of the seals there.

The seals are being hunted for their fur and the purpose of this event was to bring awareness to the unnecessary cruelty being inflicted upon them

Malika and I went together and just seeing the photographs that Nigel took makes you wonder how anyone could ever want to hurt such beautiful animals.

My brother Brody and his girlfriend Jade were there, as well as Carmen Electra and her husband Rob. It was a really moving experience and I am flattered to have been invited to attend!

EVERYONE wants to be green these days. Don’t believe me? Well if you’d been at the Go Green Expo you certainty would! 

This past weekend the Go Green Expo hit NYC like an eco hurricane and rocked the city for 3 days straight! 

With over 250 exhibitors, the show was packed with some of the latest and greatest green products on the market. One of my favorite companies from the show was Print Responsibly – a new e-commerce website offering environmentally conscious printing services. The company officially launched on Earth Day and I think you’re gonna love what they do. Go check them out!

On Saturday I had the chance to sit down with green goddess Mariel Hemingway  for an hour-long exclusive interview. Did you know that she’s like the coolest? Then, of course, I stayed to say hello to our friend Nigel Barker and caught another screening of his powerful documentary A Sealed Fate?. In the film Nigel documents his work with the HSUS to help expose the brutal Canadian seal hunt that takes the lives of hundreds of thousands of baby seals each year. You HAVE to check it out!

Then on Sunday I moderated a panel that included Treehugger’s Ken Rother, The Lazy Environmentalist Josh Dorfman, Riverkeeper’s Craig Michaels, Greenopia’s  Gay Browne, Sierra Club’sDan Miner and Green Debot’s Sarah Beatty. These guys are hella smart and proved that being environmentally conscious is the ONLY way to rock it!

So as you can see, the weekend was a success thanks to all the work by Go Green Expo CEO Bradford Rand and his amazing team. Of course we have to thank OrganicWorks for always treating us so darn great!

We’re big Nigel Barker fans around here! From his humanitarianism work around the world to his steadfast dedication to end the seal hunt in Canada, Nigel proudly raises his voice for those who lack a voice of their own.

Barker recently shared his thoughts on the situation in Haiti, the seal hunt in Canada and going green in an exclusive interview with our pal Joshua Katcher on TheDiscerningBrute.com.

In the piece, Nigel said: 

“Look, instead of hunting these animals and treating them like worthless skins and killing them in such a brutal manner where you skin them alive 45 percent of the time — instead how about putting them on your flag? How about celebrating these animals? How about being proud of it, using it as a sign of patriotism and sort of cherishing your wildlife as oppose to mindlessly and senselessly killing it? ”
