Orlando Bloom’s Gal Looking Forward To A Solar Powered Home, Kids

Filed under: buildings and construction, cars-houses — michael @ 2:50 pm

Orlando Bloom take note: Your girlfriend Miranda Kerr has made a tidy list of expectations for the future. While attending the on-going Rosemount Australian Fashion Week, Kerr let drop her green needs saying,

“Ten years from now hopefully I’ll be living in a solar-powered house with my vegetable garden out the back. And I’m hoping it will be somewhere that has a bit of countryside and a little bit of water — whether it will be a lake or an ocean — and hopefully I will have three children, a nice hammock and a big bathtub.”

Is that tub for Orlando and his smelly dog?

Kerr, a famous model/actress, has been dating Bloom for several months — making the two an eco-dream couple. The Pirates of the Carribean star has a solar-powered home in London and has also been actively involved in Global Green USA and initiatives driving awareness of climate change.

Julia Roberts Does Not Wear Deodorant. We’re Smelling A Trend Here.

Filed under: green and famous — michael @ 11:54 am

First Orlando Bloom’s natural smell came into question. Then, it was Matthew McConaughey enjoying several days in between showers. Now, Julia Roberts has admitted she doesn’t touch deodorant saying it’s “just not my thing.”

The actress was on Oprah’s Earth Day special promoting her friend’s new book “Gorgeously Green” (by author Sophie Uliano) and chatting about the small changes one can make at home to create a healthier environment.

Sophie brought out a bunch of deodorant brands and talked about the dangers of aluminum within the antiperspirant products. Roberts then told Oprah that she never wear deodorant — but will often freshen up throughout the day — whatever that means.

Check out the video below — perhaps Woody Harrelson should get her one of those crystal deodorizers.

Courteney Cox Throws Star Power Behind Raising $1 Million In Two Weeks

Filed under: campaigns — michael @ 10:20 am

aniston.jpgHow much cash can you get when you put Orlando Bloom, Jennifer Aniston, Brad Pitt, Kate Beckinsale, and David Arquette all behind a single charity for two weeks? Courteney Cox hopes it’s more than $1 million dollars. The former Friends star has set a goal of two weeks to raise that amount for those affected by a genetic skin condition called Epidermolysis Bullosa — a condition which often affects children. From the article,

“EB is very personal to me so I’m happy to be part of this $1 million challenge,” says Dirt star Courteney. “Now is such an important time to put a spotlight on EB and ensure that research can continue at a fast pace.”

Additional celebs signing up to help include Gwen Stefani, Gavin Rossdale, Rashida Jones, James Marsden, and Eva Longoria Parker.

Cox and Arquette are heading up the effort as members of the honorary advisory board of the Epidermolysis Bullosa Medical Research Foundation. Aniston, Pitt, Rossdale and Stefani are also members. Those affected by the condition break out in painful blisters after even minor trauma to the skin. Wounds may cover up to 75 percent of the body and never go away.

We wish them the best of luck! To find out how you can help contribute, please visit the foundation’s website.

Matthew McConaughey Joins Orlando Bloom In Showerless Water Conservation

Filed under: green and famous, healthy living — michael @ 10:08 am

matt.jpgA few weeks back, we told you about Orlando Bloom’s habit of wearing the same clothes sans washing for extended periods of time. This, of course, much to the dismay of girlfriend Miranda Kerr who has reportedly implored the actor to change his ’smelly’ ways.

Anyways, according to several sources, it appears that Matthew McConaughey is the water-conservation type as well. The topic came up after McConaughey revealed to a friend why he fell in love with girlfriend Camila Alves. “He said he finally met a girl who can go without a shower for a week - someone he can go mountain climbing and hiking with,” Pamela DePalma, president of DePalma Enterprises, which represents Camila’s new venture MUXO handbags.

According to Cele|bitchy, “McConaughey is known for going au natural and has not worn deodorant in 20 years. He told Playboy magazine that he refused to put on a rock crystal deodorant that his costar Kate Hudson tried to get him to wear while they were filming Fool’s Gold.”

The new trend in Hollywood? Ladies, could you stand a date with these guys regardless off their eco-friendly water ways?

After One Week Of No Showers, Would You Rather Date Matthew McConaughey Or Orlando Bloom?

Orlando Bloom’s Water Conservation Has Girlfriend Wrinkling Nose

Filed under: green and famous — michael @ 4:18 pm

orlando.jpg

While we’ve no doubt the credibility of this rumor (it came from an ‘anonymous’ source who revealed all to the cradle of truth known as The Star), we thought you might be interested to know that Orlando Bloom smells. This, according to on-again, off-again girlfriend Miranda Kerr (wait a minute, what happened to Rumer Willis?) who insists the star needs to raise his standards of personal hygiene. Here’s the DL,

“‘Miranda thinks Orlando is too smelly. Recently, she asked him if he could wash his clothes and perhaps shower more often.” When he’s not working on a film, the Pirates of the Caribbean star, 31, ‘goes days without washing his clothes,’ adds the source. ‘He’ll wear the same jeans for a week before he throws them in the washer. Same goes for his sweaters, T-shirts and socks.’”

The source also add that Orlando doesn’t help matters by sleeping with his dog, Sidi, and allowing her to slobber all over him.

So ladies, there you have it. If you can get past his man smell, good looks, love for animals, and eco-friendly water conservation habits, we’re pretty sure you’ll find a decent human being under there. Anyone out there willing to help him with his laundry?

5th Annual Global Green Pre-Oscar Bash To Feature Michelle Branch

Filed under: events: la, film-tv, movies — michael @ 11:41 am

preoscar.jpgIt’s that time of year again.

While the warm-up act that generally is considered the Golden Globes never showed, we’re all waiting with sick anticipation for the 2008 Academy Awards. Regardless of how the writers’ strike impacts things, there for sure will be plenty of alternative parties to enjoy. First and foremost on our radar is the 5th Annual Global Green USA Pre-Oscar Party.

As with previous years, the event promotes “smart solutions to global warming”. Proceeds raised go towards Global Green’s climate initiatives and also their current main focus, the green rebuilding of New Orleans. Last year, Maroon 5 was the headlining act. This time ’round, Michelle Branch will be entertaining, as well as some “surprise musical guest” not yet announced.

This party is one of the most star-studded in attendance during Oscar week. Of course, it helps to have some of the top A-listers on your Los Angeles committee. These include Orlando Bloom, Kate Bosworth, Penelope Cruz, Leonardo DiCaprio, David Duchovny, Salma Hayek, Edward Norton, and Charlize Theron.

Tickets are limited, but that doesn’t mean you can’t register now and enjoy the fun. $250 is the starting price for general admission — while $5K will get you “green carpet” access and entrance to the Patron Lounge. Remember, this is all for a great cause.

As always, we’ve no guarantees that any of the above celebrities will be in attendance. If previous years are any indication, however, you can expect to have one hell of a good time.

Orlando Bloom’s Inner Child Blossoms For UNICEF

Filed under: campaigns, donations — paige @ 11:55 am

This handsome hollywood gent is joining a long lineage of Hollywood supporters including Lucy Lieu, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Alyssa Milano in supporting UNICEF as a goodwill ambassador. Orlando Bloom recently took part in a four day UNICEF-supported visit to Nepal where he visited several programs for children in the western districts of Kaski and Chitwan.

According to reports:

In Pokhara village, Mr. Bloom mingled with over three dozen blind girls and boys. He also played a small role in a mini-drama the children were recording that day for the UNICEF-supported radio programme ‘Saathi Sanga Manka Kura’ (Chatting with My Best Friend).

Looks like a friendly game of balloons and bubbles at a Himalayan village brought out Orlando’s inner child, and probably a few smiles from some children in the process.

Global Warning, Celebrity Assistance

Filed under: books, green and famous — thomas @ 10:41 pm

orli-and-sebastian.jpg

If the prospect of your cruise ship hitting an iceberg is too frightening for you to consider taking a journey to Antarctica, why not go for the next best thing? Antarctica: The Global Warning is a book of sumptuous photography by Sebastian Copeland (above, left), a big-wig at Global Green and (as it happens) the cousin of Orlando Bloom (above, right). With a foreword by former Soviet president Mikhail Gorbachev and a preface by green-supporter extraordinaire Leonardo DiCaprio, the coffee-table book provides proof positive (as if any such thing were needed) of the importance of preserving the sanctity of the seventh continent.

Copeland’s junior by thirteen years, Bloom (a.k.a. “Orly,”—to his cousin, anyway) accompanied the photographer-filmmaker on a journey to Antarctica last February aboard the Ice Lady Patagonia. Regal as the ship might sound, it’s actually a research vessel with few amenities. Nonetheless, the actor was overtaken by what he saw there, telling Elle magazine a few months later: “Those icebergs are so majestic, but they felt like dinosaurs to me, like a dying breed. I can imagine coming back to Antarctica next year or ten years from now and seeing the difference.”

Copeland says that his primary reason for his publishing the book was to raise consciousness and in so doing, pay back his debt to future generations. “You take one step at a time and before you know it, you start to rethink everything.” He’s also the first to admit that celebrities (such as his cousin as well as boldfaced names like Salma Hayek and Jake Gyllenhaal, both of whom accompanied him to the other of Earth’s extremities, the Arctic—see below) have an even greater ability than the rest of us to bring important attention to the cause, sounding the global warning for Antarctica and the other continents as well.

Orlando Bloom Endorses 2008 Toyota Corolla Altis In Asia

While (thankfully) it’s not an SUV, I’m a little disappointed to see Orlando Bloom backing a car in Asia that features very little in the way of green technology. DiCaprio did it in Japan with the Prius. Couldn’t Bloom apply his values to the same industry?

Check out the commercial below with Bloom as the official endorser of the 2008 Toyota Corolla Altis for the Asian markets.
