In recognition of his commitment to the rights of children around the world, Orlando Bloom has been appointed an UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador.

“I look forward to working with UNICEF as they continue to make the world a better place for children,” Bloom, who previously visited Nepal, Russia and Sarajevo on behalf of the organization, said. “UNICEF doesn’t just deliver humanitarian aid, which is what they are known for all over the world. They also educate and provide tools which help women and children face challenges specific to their own lives. I responded to how UNICEF works as much as I did to the work itself. I look forward to learning more and to supporting UNICEF any way I can.”

Bloom’s first order of business? Recording a PSA for the group this week on the importance of clean and accessible drinking water. Seems to be a popular platform these days.

For the third year in a row, Ecorazzi will descend upon the red carpet for the 6th Annual Global Green Pre-Oscar Party this coming Thursday. The event, as usual, will be a celebrity magnet — drawing such famous names as Leonardo DiCaprio, Orlando Bloom, Penelope Cruz, Marisa Tomei, Kate Bosworth, Rosario Dawson, and others. Slated to perform are Sheryl Crow, Gavin Rossdale and BlackCowboy. This year’s bash will benefit “Green Schools” — with an emphasis on improving student health and performance, saving money, creating green jobs, and advancing smart climate solutions. Last year the nonprofit received more than $420,000 for its initiatives, such as the high-profile “Rebuilding New Orleans” green-building project.

Global Green USA President Matt Petersen recently told the site GreenRightNow that the organization “started doing this before An Inconvenient Truth came out. And we’ve worked hard to tie our efforts to real substantive projects and advocacy initiatives to change policy. The combination of substance along with reaching out to pop culture has its appeal – certainly in this town. People realize they have an obligation as people in the public eye to shine a light on the issues.”

A myriad of celebrities — including Justin Timberlake, Bill Murray, Huey Lewis, Michael Bolton, and Kevin James — participated in the 3M Celebrity Golf Challenge yesterday. About $29,000 in charity cash was up for grabs to the winner — which ultimately went to Bolton and James on the last putt. Some of Australia’s biggest stars participated in a telethon yesterday to help raise money for those affected by the horrible brush fires raging there this week. According to E!, “Russell Crowe, Naomi Watts, Hugh Jackman, Mel Gibson, Rachel Griffiths, Orlando Bloom and his model-girlfriend Miranda Kerr, Ellen DeGeneres and a host of musicians like k.d. lang, politicians and sports legends, all of whom sent appeals asking for money on behalf of the Nine Network’s Australia Unites telethon.” Nicole Kidman and her husband Keith Urban personally donated $300,000. “Julia is a total hippie. She’ll go days without showering.” said her former bodyguard, writes Times of the Internet. “She likes the smell of her natural oils.”

As we’ve mentioned previously, Roberts joins other stars like Matthew McConaughey and Orlando Bloom in conserving water by avoiding showers. I personally have nothing against it — but can attest to being in the company of some people that truly do smell; natural oils aside.

So, here’s the question of the day:

We’re so awesomely terrible at these wedding rumors (see: Jen and John planing a green wedding), that I wouldn’t be surprised if The Sunday Telegraph is once more setting us up for disappointment.

According to their exclusive information, Orlando Bloom and longtime girlfriend Miranda Kerr are engaged. “The wedding is planned for the middle of next year, when both have a break from work commitments,” the article states. “Bloom and Kerr, who live together in New York, celebrated their engagement with a romantic getaway in Venice last week.”

Will there be a green wedding? Will Kerr finally get that vegetable patch, gaggle of kids, and a solar-powered home? Will Stella McCartney design her dress?

Jesus, I need a drink. Don’t be surprised if publicists for both shoot these rumors down. More info available here.

So, it’s a bit of a bummer to hear Kerr talking about her jet-setting ways in the latest issue of Page Six Mag. “In the last 22 days I’ve been to eight different countries,” she said regarding her job as a Victoria’s Secret Angel. “Honestly, I’m always on an airplane. I spend a lot of time on beautiful little islands, but generally its one day here and then flying, then one day there, then fly. But I feel very grateful to have so much work, especially with the economy how it is.”

I wonder if Kerr is approaching David Beckham’s 250,000 miles in the air record from last year? It’s estimated that this contributed to one of the largest carbon footprints in history.

Like previous interviews, Kerr opens up about an eventual family — and her desire to have it be an eco-friendly affair. “I’ve always wanted kids, so…someday…eventually, yes, it will happen.  My ideal situation would be to live on a farm in a solar-powered house with a hammock and a vegetable patch. When this is all over that’s where I’ll be.”

Hopefully, that happens soon. Till then, here’s to the optimistic thought that VS flies all their models commercial…

Rumors over eco-couple Orlando Bloom and Miranda Kerr’s breakup have apparently been exaggerated. “I realize there is an interest in people who are in the spotlight, but I just can’t believe how far from the truth it gets,” Kerr’s mother said. “Miranda and Orlando have never been closer and are happier right now more so than ever. In the latest issue of Madison Magazine, model Miranda Kerr is featured wearing a very PETA-esque bikini made of leaves. Makes me reflect back on that lettuce actress Maggie Q wore to promote the vegetarian lifestyle.

Anyways, the current flame of Orlando Bloom say she’s a “hippie at heart” and works hard to reduce her impact. “I always pull plugs out of the wall when I’m not using appliances, ride my bike everywhere in New York and am passionate about organic food,” she told the magazine.

A few weeks back Kerr revealed her future plans saying, “Ten years from now hopefully I’ll be living in a solar-powered house with my vegetable garden out the back. And I’m hoping it will be somewhere that has a bit of countryside and a little bit of water — whether it will be a lake or an ocean — and hopefully I will have three children, a nice hammock and a big bathtub.”

Orlando Bloom take note: Your girlfriend Miranda Kerr has made a tidy list of expectations for the future. While attending the on-going Rosemount Australian Fashion Week, Kerr let drop her green needs saying,

And I’m hoping it will be somewhere that has a bit of countryside and a little bit of water — whether it will be a lake or an ocean — and hopefully I will have three children, a nice hammock and a big bathtub.”

Kerr, a famous model/actress, has been dating Bloom for several months — making the two an eco-dream couple. The Pirates of the Carribean star has a solar-powered home in London and has also been actively involved in Global Green USA and initiatives driving awareness of climate change.
