I’m a big fan of just how slow and laid back Owen Wilson’s voice is. (His 2007 interview about why he loves his Prius had the same surfer drawl.) Check out the Nat Geo Kids clip below!

In my opinion, Woody Harrelson is right up there with Ed Begley Jr. in terms of living a true, green Hollywood lifestyle. The UK Times recently caught up with the actor and discussed his love for the all-electric, dicontinued, Toyota RAV 4, his solar-powered community in Hawaii (which Owen Wilson will be moving to shortly), and the inspiration of his wife and children. Here are some highlights:

On electric transportation and the conspiracy to kill the tech back at the turn of the century:

That whole thing [with the film] Who Killed the Electric Car?’, it really is true,” claims Harrelson. “They did try to stamp it out in many ways . . . My RAV4 drives like a normal car. It goes 70mph. You could maybe get it up to 75mph. There are no drawbacks at all except that eventually you’re gonna have to plug it back in.”

On his Hawaiian, off-gird, eco-village community:

“Everybody in the neighborhood is on solar power,” he says. “People get the concept that it’s like a commune, but this was a neighborhood that’s been there long before I got there, and they just never wanted power lines.”

On the current political situation in the U.S.:

“I just find it hard to believe that there’s going to be any evolution of politics from within,” he says. “I just think the system is so corrupt. And now we’re still stuck in this Bush-like quagmire nightmare. I like [Barack] Obama. He seems a little outside the norm. But we’ll see what happens.”

Now, In Touch is reporting that Wilson is making plans to move to the same sustainable, solar-powered community in Hawaii as enjoyed by Woody. From the article,

When the 39-year-old actor spent a week visiting good pal Woody Harrelson in Maui starting on August 7, he fell in love with the tropical paradise — and the environmentally friendly lifestyle. Woody lives in a completely solar-powered, sustainable community featuring organic farming. “It’s 100 percent green living,” says an insider. “Owen likes it so much that he made an offer on a home there.” Owen’s 2004 film, The Big Bounce, was set in Hawaii.

How do you like that? I’m not necessarily one for Ecovillages, but Hawaii would be a great place to try one out! It’s great to see Owen moving beyond the troubles that plagued him last year and embracing a green, sustainable lifestyle. Good luck!

The reality TV series Big Brother is attempting to green for its 2008 run. The sixteen contestants will be required to grow their own vegetables and season their food from the communal garden. There will also be a large recycle bin in the kitchen. However, compared to the green efforts undertaken by this season’s Real World, these changes amount to a drop in the bucket. Woody Harrelson and Owen Wilson have been spotted in Peru roughing it out and attempting to blend in with the locals. A local celebrity program called ”Magaly TeVe” filmed the pair deep in Peru’s Andes bathing in an irrigation ditch wearing nothing but their boxer shorts. From the article,

“It showed the pair pouring handfuls of water over themselves under the highland sun. Harrelson and Wilson were reportedly visiting a local orphanage they support near Cuzco, the ancient Incan capital.”

That orphanage, Casa de Milagros, is just outside of a spiritual retreat the two are staying at called the Hanaq Pacha Retreat Center. Not only are the accommodations affordable ($50/night) but they’re also unique, with Woody and Owen spending their time in a eco-friendly teepee. The wood and canvas “malocas” sleep up to four people and feature furnishings created by local artisans and the kids of the of the orphanage.

The back-to-basics resort, also sponsored by Harrelson, is a yoga and spiritual retreat that has its own organic gardens that grows vegetables. Seems like a great getaway — and another insight into the great projects sponsored by Woody. Enjoy gents!
