Pamela Anderson Holds Yard Sale For PETA

Filed under: animals, events, events: la, thegreenpicture — parrish @ 11:40 am

I know, I know — more Pamela Anderson news. But what can we say, this chick keeps doing awesome things!

This weekend Pamela Anderson held a “garage sale” to clear out some unwanted items from her rented Malibu home.  Among the products sold were broken light bulbs, a hot pink butt blaster exercise machine, various children’s toys and oh yeah…HER LINGERIE!!!! Pam also parted with a new golf car, several chocolate fondue fountains (cause who needs more than 2) and a flat screen TV.

All of the proceeds from the event went to the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals — an organization that Pam has supported for years.  And proceeds, there were plenty! Fans of the former Baywatch star waited hours to purchase some of her left over crap, and one potential buyer said,  “I just wanted to see how rich people live.”

So yeah, maybe I think it’s a little crazy that people would buy another person’s broken light bulbs, but raising money is raising money and this little lady sure knows how to do it!  Go Pam!

PETA Asks Will Ferrell To Give Up His Animal Wrestling Ways

Filed under: animals, campaigns, film-tv, movies, not green — parrish @ 11:04 am

Last week Ecorazzi told you that PETA was investigating the death of Stephan Miller, the 39-year-old animal trainer who was fatally attached by Rocky – the grizzly bear featured in Will Ferrell’s film, Semi-Pro. Now it looks like PETA’s going right to the source and asking Ferrell to stop using animals in all of his movies.

In February, PETA sent a letter to Ferrell’s agents warning of both the dangers of working with wild animals and how many of these animals are cruelty treated, but the warning went ignored and now PETA is giving it a second go. PETA recently sent another letter to Ferrell and his camp stating, “We know you to be a compassionate person, and we are hoping that this deadly incident will make you have a change of heart about acting with animals in the future.”

Many celebrities are adamant about not working with animals, including Pamela Anderson who recently refused to shoot a scene with a trained Labrador.  Is Ferrell going to give up his animal wrestling ways? Only time will tell. Stay close Ecorazzi readers — we’ll keep you posted as the story unfolds.

Ryan Gosling Tells KFC To Improve The Lives Of Chickens

Filed under: animals, campaigns, food & drink, green and famous, healthy living, thegreenpicture — parrish @ 11:39 am

Whether you’re a tofu-eating, grain munching vegan like me, or a meat-eating, dairy drinking non-vegan like…well…just about everyone else, I think — if given the choice — most people would like to see animals treated humanely before they die.

Well at least Oscar-nominated actor Ryan Gosling sure would, and has joined the list of celebrity do-gooders that include Bryan Adams, Pamela Anderson and Ron Jeremy urging KFC to improve the conditions in their poultry slaughterhouses. KFC is notorious for the horrific manner in which they treat their chickens and their stubbornness to make any humane changes recommended by scientists and animal activists alike.

Gosling recently composed a letter on behalf of People For the Ethical Treatment of Animals to John Bitove, who oversees KFC Canada, asking him to stop the ongoing (and unnecessary) abuse of the chickens supplied to his restaurants.

Gosling writes,  ”The time is ripe to do the right thing. By adopting the basic recommendations made by PETA and scientific experts (including raising birds in a more natural manner and employing less cruel slaughter methods), you could dramatically improve the lives and deaths of chickens raised and killed for KFC Canada.”

If you’d like to find out more about the horrific conditions KFC forces their chickens to endure, visit KentuckyFriedCruelty.com and by all means boycott KFC!!

Pamela Anderson And The Hot Dog Conspiracy

Filed under: animals, food & drink, green and famous, thegreenpicture — parrish @ 11:30 am

Sometimes, while walking down the street enjoying some scrumptious vegan soft serve, I wonder if people might get the wrong idea and think, “Damn, that boy loves him some dairy.” So I can only imagine all the confusion celebrities go through when dealing with the paparazzi.

Last week, photos were taken of long-time vegetarian, Pamela Anderson, gobbling down a big old “hot dog” (there’s a joke in there somewhere) at her son Brandon’s baseball game in Malibu, California.

Of course the media was quick to use those pictures as proof that Pam had given up her veggie ways, but Anderston told PlanetGossip.eonline.com, “It’s like Hotdoggate… Clearly, it’s a veggie dog (in the pictures). They’ve been serving veggie dogs and veggie burgers at my kids’ baseball games for years now.”

In the past Ecorazzi has reported on Pamela’s involvement with PETA and her desire to help stop the seal hunt in Canada, so basically I don’t really see Pam going back to meat anytime soon.

Lauren Conrad Speaks Out For The Plight Of The Seal

Filed under: animals, campaigns, green and famous, thegreenpicture — parrish @ 12:14 pm

It’s so easy to watch shows like The Hills and Laguna Beach and think to yourself, “Wow those are about the worst people ever”, but every now and then a seemingly unaware reality star steps up and does something admirable.

Such is the case with Lauren Conrad and her recent fight to stop the slaughter of seals in Canada. Ecorazzi reported earlier about this horrific problem when Pamela Anderson used her fame to help make a difference, and now it looks like Lauren is speaking out too.

Lauren said, “I am a huge animal lover and that includes seals. I think the killing of innocent baby seals is awful and should definitely not be allowed.”

Like Lauren and Pamela, other celebrities that have spoken out on behalf of seal, including Hayden Panettiere and Sienna Miller. America’s Next Top Model judge Nigel Barker even designed a t-shirt that says “Make A Fashion Statement, Save the Seals.” However, I find that fishy (no pun intended) after Nigel was so willing to sit back and allow that disgusting meat locker photo shoot on ANTM a couple weeks ago.

If you want to learn more about the cruel seal industry or just pick up some fashionable yet activisty gear, visit the Humane Society of the United States’ website and find out how you can get involved.

UPDATE: Dear Ecorazzi readers, sometimes I’m a jerk! Sometimes perhaps my passion for the environment and animal rights encourages me to jump to conclusions far too soon. If you read the comment section below you’ll see that in it Nigel Barker stands up for his role in protecting the seals and having nothing to do with the meatlocker episode of Top Model. The goal at Ecorazzi is to support people in the entertainment business that are doing wonderful things in the world and I’m sorry if I spoke out of turn. Please check out the shirt Nigel designed on HSUS and help support his awesome campaign. My apologies!

Pamela Anderson Refuses To Work With Canine Co-Star

Filed under: animals — michael @ 3:23 pm

On the set of her new film Superhero Movie, Pamela Anderson refused to work with her canine co-star because she believes training dogs to work on films is wrong. The action was not surprising as PETA has long been against the use of animals in films. Anderson is an avid supporter of the organization. From the article,

“I’m told she refused to act opposite the canine, because PETA doesn’t support using real animals in moviemaking. ‘Pam left the set and went for a walk,’ a source reports. ‘She needed a time out. She was that upset.’ In the scene, Anderson’s Invisible Girl superhero character calls for her Invisible Dog. The four-legged friend becomes visible just as it jumps into her arms.”

Apparently, the director got around the issue by editing different scenes together to make it look like Anderson and the dog were in the same scene.

I guess I always thought that dogs were treated well on film sets. It’s one of the reasons I’ve been pushing to have my golden lab, Otago, featured for a couple million in the next Transformers sequel. She’s well behaved, in shape, and recently completed rehab. Her promotional photo is below.

Razzi Snap: Clooney Bought Two Of Brad Pitt’s Pink Houses

Filed under: animals, buildings and construction, cars-houses, transport — michael @ 5:22 pm

flowerIt’s no surprise that George Clooney is generous with his cash, but we were excited to learn that he’s taken part in raising some dough for Brad Pitt’s campaign to help rebuild New Orleans. Apparently, Clooney donated $300,000 — or the equivalent of two eco-friendly, sustainable homes. Currently, the Make It Right Foundation has raised enough for 81 out of the 150 homes needed. To help out, get your wallet ready and jump here. Oh, and those recycled pink bags are now back in stock. [via the times online]

flowerFilmmaker Michael Bergmann has joined Leonardo DiCaprio in owning a Vectrix electric motorbike. Bergmann is excited that he no longer contributes to congestion or pollution — and can quickly zip around the streets of New York City. His only lament is the price ($11K), but he figures ““it will pay for itself in taxis not taken in two years.” [via Reuters]

flowerRock group Kasabian has joined Morrissey, Pamela Anderson, and a bunch of other groups and celebs in teaming up with PETA to help end Canada’s annual cull of 275,000 baby harp seals. Singer Tom Meighan said: “It’s just common sense. I don’t think it’s OK to smash a baby seal’s skull. I’d never wear fur - it’s such an ugly thing to do.” [via gigwise]

Pamela Anderson To Develop Eco-Friendly Housing In Canada

Filed under: buildings and construction, cars-houses — michael @ 11:22 am

anderson.jpgMovie and television star, sex symbol and animal-rights advocate Pamela Anderson is returning to the Canadian town she grew up in to help develop a new residential, eco-friendly development. Anderson is teaming up with former professional hockey player Geoff Courtnall to build upon five waterfront-acres previously owned by her grandparents in the town of Ladysmith. The 83-unit, condominium-townhouse development will feature a reduced footprint and several eco-friendly features. From the article,

“‘Environmentally friendly features include a geothermal heat exchange system and pavement that is water-permeable, and a recirculating pond and stream to prevent heavy runoff’, said development manager Peter Laughlin. To minimize the building’s footprint on the site, plans call for one seven-storey condo building, and two four-storey condo blocks. One of those four-storey blocks would be built into the bank on the waterfront, rising to just one level above ground, he said. The townhouses would be built in one- and two-level buildings. ‘The density proposed is less than is permitted under the current zoning’, Laughlin said. ‘We have tried to leave large areas of green space and preserve as many trees as possible.’”

Great to see Pam choosing to include green elements in her development. We’re pretty confident there won’t be any leather furniture included in the final design as well. Perhaps hiring Tobey Maguire as a bouncer would help to ensure this.

Pamela Anderson Seal Hunting UPDATE!

Filed under: animals, green and famous, thegreenpicture — parrish @ 2:50 pm

pam11.jpgRemember when Ecorazzi told you about Pamela Anderson’s speech protesting seal hunting in Canada? Well yesterday afternoon Pamela blogged about it on her website, PamelaChannel.com. She said:

Ms Bardot asked me to represent her in her annual press conference at her foundation”s headquarter by Eiffle Tower- in her and my plea to ban the seal hunt in Canada (coming again soon)- It was an amazing crowd-full of sympathy- I saw tears (even papperazzi) when I played footage of the baby seals being beaten and sometimes skinned alive in this barbaric-cash bonus for the fisheries.

Brigitte Bardot called me on speaker phone at press conference expressing her gratitude for all the work I do for animals- she called me her “daughter” , “a continuation of her” I almost fell over-. -I’ve always loved her- she is truly my favorite -beyond her beauty- she has done so much for animals- and has taken her beauty and attention to whole other level- your heart never ends– and beauty continues when your heart is sweet…She is still Gorgeous! …She is an inspiration- and I thank her again and again for everything she’s done–and i will continue and encourage others to continue the fight for animals everywhere.”

Like it or not, this chick’s totally got it!

Pamela Anderson Keeps It Real For The Sake Of The Seal

Filed under: animals, events, green and famous, thegreenpicture — parrish @ 11:31 am

When you hear the name Pamela Anderson, what’s the first thing that pops in your head? Oh come on, don’t be gross! Sure, you could think of the scandals or the sex tape or the botched marriages, but instead I like to think about all the super wonderful things she’s done for the sake of the animals. And guess what? The Baywatch beauty is at it again.

It’s been reported that Pamela Anderson plans on delivering a letter from fellow animal rights activist, Brigitte Bardot to the Canadian ambassador to protest the hunting of seals. Pamela was in Paris, France for Valentine’s Day to star in a series of burlesque shows at the world famous Le Crazy Horse club and took the opportunity to speak with the press.

Pam said, “It (seal hunting) sickens me not just as a Canadian but as a human being.”  Pam also asked the fashion industry to stop using animal pelts in production. She added, “The hunt was dead for 20 years, and has been revived, not to honor local customs or conserve cod stocks, but because new markets for fur have opened up in Russia and China.”

So Pam, even though your personal life has been through some rough sauce lately, I want to thank you for staying steadfast with your activist efforts and keeping it real for the sake of the seal. I’d ask you to marry me but…well…umm…let’s just stick to what we’re good at and save animals together.
