Pierce Brosnan Offers Tips On How You Can Go Green

Oh Pierce Brosnan, how you make my inner 50-year-old, post-menopausal, environmentalist woman swoon!

Recently, the James Bond star wrote a letter on his website praising some great environmental organizations and giving his readers a few self-practiced tips on ways they might transition into a more greener way of life.  Some of Pierce’s hints include: supporting local and organic food, using eco-friendly cleaning products around the house, compost, compost, compost and encouraging environmental education.

Pierce is no stranger to green living, having  donated over $1 million buckaroos to environmental organizations throughout the years.  In fact, Pierce was even eco-friendly before it was “cool” and was given an Environmental Leadership Award from the Green Cross organization in 1997.

Hayden Panettiere Saves The Whales…Again.

Breaking News: Hayden Panettiere is actually part whale. A thin whale, yes. A cute whale, absolutely. But I am most definitely, one hundred percent convinced that Hayden Panettiere is somehow directly related to the cetacean family and thus porpoise like in distinction.  And like any good family member-she protects her clan.

This weekend, Panettiere spoke at the Save the Whales-Again campaign at DuPont Circle in Washington D.C to help raise awareness about the brutal slaying of whales around the the world. Save the Whales-Again is an international conservation project that aims to re-ignite the passion of the earlier “Save the Whales” movement and “Save the Whales Again!”.  

Panettiere joins fellow celebrities, Pierce Brosnan, Keely Shaye Smith, and Isabel Lucas  who have all pitched in to try and help save the whale…again.  Panettiere has been particularly active in the movement and has future plans to speak with representatives from Japan, Iceland, and Norway to try and convince them to change their archaic fishing practice.

It looks like this Heroes star was typecast.

Pierce Brosnan Dishes Out Some Green Kitchen Tips

When he isn’t shooting films, disputing water rights with the elderly, or fighting for the welfare of whales, actor Pierce Brosnan is at home enjoying a potato and keeping a green kitchen. He recently revealed his food cravings in the February 2008 issue of Bon Appetit saying, “Potatoes-baked, mashed, roasted and boiled, or fried with cold sliced tomatoes. I could eat them every night of the week.  I can’t live without a good potato.  And Irish soda bread, hot from the oven with lashings of butter.”

Staying in line with his conservation and environmental beliefs, Brosnan is also quick to highlight key points to a greener kitchen. He handed out some tips for those looking to follow suit at home. From the article,

“‘Compost scraps - from banana peels to coffee grounds - and green waste.  Purchase a turntable composter and start a green waste pile that can fortify your garden naturally.  Purchase all-natural organic cleansers, recylced paper products, organic cotton, and non GM) (genetically modified organism) food products.’”

Respect! It’s great to hear of more celebrities beyond Ed Begley Jr. actually putting some effort into going green at home. Brosnan just finished filming the movie version of the musical Mama Mia! in Greece and will soon step into the well-tailored shoes of businessman/thief Thomas Crown to shoot the sequel to the ‘99 hit The Thomas Crown Affair.

Pierce Brosnan Accused Of Stealing Water From Old Lady

If you thought that title was amusing, chances are that probably sums up how Pierce Brosnan feels about the entire situation.

A 77 year-old Hawaiian farmer named Cathy Ham Young is taking Brosnan to court over allegations that he stole her water. According to reports, Young claims the previous owner of Brosnan’s estate on the island diverted water from the farm she owns - and the star has failed to replace a ditch, despite a judge’s order to do so. She says that Brosnan refuses to have the ditch near his home, and claims that by the time the water gets to her farm, it is polluted.

As a result, she blames the former James Bond for ruining her vegetable crop.

She says <insert best angry old lady voice here>, “Pierce Brosnan stole my water. Because he’s a millionaire movie star, he thought he could just move in and steal my water. He’s even ignored a court ruling for him to put in a new ditch to restore the water supply to my farm. His lawyer told my lawyer: ‘Pierce doesn’t want to look at a ditch.’”

According to Brosnan’s lawyer, the actor is not in the wrong. “Pierce has not been ordered to restore a ditch,” he said. “A judge found that water goes through five different properties between Pierce’s property and Cathy Young’s property and that it’s not Pierce’s problem.”

Ah, the problems celebrities face. It’s good to know they have to deal with random crap from irate neighbors as well. Where’s that old silencer when you need it?

Japanese Whalers Brace For New Attacks From Environmental Groups

In the wake of Hayden Panettiere helping shed fresh attention on Japan’s dolphin slaughter, the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society (SSCS) is casting off to confront a Japanese Whaling Fleet. The organization, which has the backing of celebrities such as Sean Penn, Martin Sheen, and Pierce Brosnan is leaving Melbourne, Australia later this week to monitor and antagonize the Japanese. From the article,

“SSCS is repeating actions from last year. Paul Watson, captain of the SSCS ship last year, threatened to ram Japanese whalers with a giant “can opener” attached to his ship’s bow. This threat was not followed through, but society members tossed foul smelling chemicals onto the whalers’ ship decks and fixing steel plates onto the blood drain of the fleet’s factory ship.

Vasic said the organization would stop at almost nothing to help save the whales from the Japanese fleet. Vasic said: ‘Everything is on the table as long as it’s non-violent. I would rule nothing out.” He added: When we show up, the fleet tends to go on the run because of our reputation. When we’re pursuing them at high speed, they can’t hunt.’”

Japan continues to hunt whales under the guise of using such actions to study their habits. In reality, the meat generally ends up on dinner tables and is a lucrative trade for the country. Environmental group Greenpeace will also send a ship to monitor the fleet. We wish them luck in their efforts.
