Daniel Craig, Harrison Ford, Pele, Robin Williams, Prince William, Prince Harry, the Dalai Lama and others have teamed up with Prince Charles on a new video promoting conservation of the Rainforests. The 90-second clip features all of the participants standing next to — or holding — a computer-animated frog. “Our aim, with your help, is to build an online community to call, from the bottom up, for urgent action to protect the rainforests, without which we will most certainly lose the battle against catastrophic climate change,” Prince Charles said. Of course, this was no ordinary movie celebration. Both Princes wanted the event to also recognize the efforts and sacrifice of Britain’s true miliatry heroes. The brothers invited war veterans and their families to line the red carpet and attend the premiere. From the article,

The aim was to raise more than £500,000 from the evening for two military charities, The Royal British Legion and Help for Heroes. A Clarence House spokesman said: ‘The princes chose these two great causes because they are linked to Remembrance Day, but most importantly because they want to make the point that this is a film about a British action hero, but the money is going to our country’s real heroes who put their lives in the line of fire day in, day out, in Iraq and Afghanistan.’

After being prematurely pulled from Afghanistan back in February (due to his whereabouts being compromised), Prince Harry has been anxiously awaiting another opportunity to serve with his regiment. 

Now People has revealed that the 23-year-old army lieutenant will be traveling to Africa to lend assistance in the Kingdom of Lesotho. From the article,

“He’ll spend three weeks in the Kingdom of Lesotho, where he set up a charity to support AIDS orphans in 2006. The men, led by a senior officer, will be building and repairing facilities for the children.”

The charity organization that Harry started, called Sentebale, was formed in memory of his mother Diana, Princess of Wales. It offers financial aid and management support to community projects assisting children. Harry even helped produce a documentary of the work there — called The Forgotten Kingdom: Prince Harry in Lesotho — to draw attention to the AIDS crisis there. 

Back in March, Harry became upset after it was revealed that Sentebale had only distributed a fraction of the funds it had received. Only £84,000 of the £1.15 million raised had gone to the kids — with £100,000 alone going to one unidentified individual.

Robe Lowe was one of the celebrities in attendance Friday — amidst 300 corporate executives from Wal-Mart, GE, Dow Chemical and others — to hear CA Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger deliver a message on climate change and the U.S. governments inept approach to dealing with it. Said Arnold, “The federal government is asleep at the wheel and they don’t get it. Those that don’t believe in the (global warming) threat, they still think the earth is flat. Unless you put a serious cap on emissions, we’ll never get there. It signals we’re serious about it. That’s when companies go and make changes.” While we agree with Arnold on the above, we also think he should put a cap in his own emissions if people are going to seriously follow his lead. Yesterday, a peace vigil was headed by actor/activist Sean Penn and “Peace Mom” Cindy Sheehan in San Francisco. The event was organized to mark the fifth anniversary of the Iraq War (which actually happens this Wednesday) and remember those American and Iraqis killed in the conflict. The game over where the Pitt-Jolies are planning on settling down has once again focused on France. Apparently, the couple have now put a $20 million offer in on an 850-year-old home built by monks. Previously, Angelina had fallen in love with the property, but withdrew an offer after Pitt was denied permission to turn the lavish 5-acre gardens into a racetrack for his motorcycles. Now, such obstacles have been removed, and they are moving forward with purchasing the place. A garden for a racetrack? Hmmm…[via Sunday Mirror]
