Rachel McAdams was spotted yesterday going for a bike ride in her hometown of Toronto, Canada. The GreenIsSexy.org eco-gal appears next in the movie Sherlock Holmes with Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law.

“I would give it a good shot for a while,” she said. “I grew up in a small town, with a small backyard and raspberry bushes. My parents had a garden, but it was very basic. I think one thing that kids who grow up on farms really have going for them is they have exposure to death and birth in a totally different way. I think it takes away a little but of the mystery and a little but of the fear, and I do wish I had that.”

We’re not surprised to hear McAdams express a desire to raise her kids in nature — especially since she’s one of the co-founders of the green site GreenIsSexy.org — and an eco-friendly chick to boot. Perhaps she’ll live next door to Ellen and Portia?

Penelope Cruz has come under a steady stream of attacks from animal-rights activists after agreeing to star in the movie Manolete — a Spanish film about a legendary matador who was gored to death in a bullring at the peak of his fame. Cruz insists, however, that she was simply attracted to the powerful story and does not support the cruel sport in any way. “This is a film about a love story,” said Producer Andres Vicente Gomez. “There is no blood shown. Rachel McAdams has been busy making some eco-improvements to her new home in Toronto. She recently told People, “I live in an old house and I’m trying to do green remodeling. I consider noise pollution a pretty minor offense for one-time bashes, but environmental officers (they really exist!) in England have not taken lightly reports that Heather Mills upset neighbors with her 40th Birthday party last month in East Sussex. Apparently, Mills’ loud partying angered neighbors and prompted them to make official complaints to the local council. Said one officer, “We received four complaints about noise from loud music and a generator.” Ah, but was that generator running on biodiesel? <grin> [via starpulse]

GreenIsSexy, the environmental website started by actress Rachel McAdams and two of her friends, has a new addition in the form of some ‘eco’ postcards sent by the ladies from around the world. I’m not sure if this is new – or if I just missed it — but we get such insights as Rachel skipping on showers, marveling at Chicago’s green roofs, and reusing yogurt cups. I love her.
