Radiohead Supports Tibet At Opening Concert Of World Tour

Filed under: campaigns, events, green and famous, music, politics — parrish @ 12:09 pm

I think it’s safe to say that Radiohead isn’t afraid of making a little noise.  That is, of course, with their music, but also with their political and environmental agenda too. Ecorazzi has reported on numerous occasions about Radiohead’s constant role in environmental change, and now it looks like the guys are speaking up once again.

On Monday, Radiohead kicked off their world tour by decorating the the Cruzan Amphitheater stage in Florida with Tibetan flags to show their support for the people of Tibet. This comes shortly after Ecorazzi got a surge of comments when we wrote a post detailing Richard Gere’s suggestion that America should protest against China by boycotting the Olympic Games in Beijing.

Billboard Magazine Announces Top 10 Greenest Musicians

Filed under: green and famous, honors, magazines, music, thegreenpicture — parrish @ 10:04 am

It seems that nowadays every magazine has a “Green Issue”. And why not? Let’s be honest, green is the new EVERYTHING!!!

So in the spirit of el verde Billboard Magazine has dedicated their entire March issue to all things green, including a list of the top 10 greenest musicians. Billboard says, “The Top 10 green musician activists from the past year were chosen by overall positive impact on the environment; the extent to which the artist integrates a green approach into all aspects of his/her career; perceived sacrifice of choices; and trailblazing nature/originality of ideas.”

Wanna know the Top 10? Drumroll please!

In order from last to first they are: 10. The Roots 9. Missy Higgins 8. Radiohead 7. Serj Tankian 6. Pearl Jam 5. K.T Tunstall 4. Dave Matthews Band 2. Mana 2. Willie Nelson 1. Jack Johnson

Bands were praised for everything from their choice to eat local and organic to fueling tour buses with biodiesel and raising money for eco-worthy causes. Also included in the issue are stories on the touring industry (from green merch to green venues), green instruments, green festivals and tons more.

Billboard’s Green Issue is on sale now, but if you just can’t wait to get your hands on a copy you can visit their website and get an online preview NOW!!!

Radiohead Singer Thom Yorke Drives The Climate Change Bandwagon

Filed under: campaigns, events, green and famous, thegreenpicture — parrish @ 12:27 pm

Good news, Green Heads!

It’s been reported that Thom Yorke, front man of Radiohead, is launching the Friends of the Earth’s Big Ask Europe campaign to help Europe cut down on her carbon emissions. The Big Ask campaign combines Friends of the Earth groups from 17 countries who want the European Union to set legally binding emission reductions of 30 percent by 2020 and 90 percent by 2050.

Could this work? I think so. Previously, Friends of the Earth passed the Big Ask in the UK proposal, which secured a highly anticipated climate change law, that once put into effect, will make the UK the first country to set legally binding targets for cutting greenhouse gases.

Yorke, who also participated in the UK proposal said: “We will never wake from the nightmare of climate change unless our national governments and the European Union act. They are the only ones who can put the structures in place that will help us tackle climate change. By committing to annual cuts in our emissions at a national and European level we can play our part in tackling climate change and set an example to the rest of the world to follow.”

I’ve said it once and I’ll say it again: You Brits sure know how to party green. Thanks to Thom Yorke from Radiohead and Friends of the Earth for fighting the good fight and doing their part to help end climate change. Did you hear that? I believe Al Gore just shed a tear.
