Reese Witherspoon Rocks The Avon Walk For Breast Cancer

Filed under: campaigns, donations, events, events: DC — parrish @ 11:42 am

Last October Ecorazzi announced that Reese Witherspoon had been named the first ever global ambassador and honorary chair of the Avon Foundation – a group dedicated to improving the lives of women through focusing on vital issues like breast cancer, domestic violence and emergency relief.

Since her appointment, Reese has worked with Avon to stop domestic violence, and this past weekend she showed her charitable side again as a special guest at the sixth annual Avon Walk for Breast Cancer Washington, D.C.

Reese spent the weekend in D.C cheering on the walkers and spoke at the closing ceremony.  She said, “I am very excited to be partnering with the Avon Foundation and to help them continue to affect real change, I feel a great responsibility in my own life to give back to society. As the Honorary Chairman of the Avon Foundation, one of my first experiences last year was to meet Avon Walk walkers at a training walk in Los Angeles. Now I am proud to support the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer here in Washington, D.C. and hope my presence can in some measure express my deep appreciation for all the women and men who participate in the Avon Walks, and for all of the people who dedicate their lives to breast cancer research and care.”

The walk had 3,500 participants and raised $8.1 million for local, regional and national breast cancer organizations. GOOD JOB YA’LL!! So a big thanks to Reese Witherspoon, the Avon Foundation and all the walkers for their hard work and generous donations.

Reese Witherspoon And Jake Gyllenhaal Not Vegetarians After All?

Filed under: food & drink, not green — parrish @ 10:24 am

Ok, I’m totally confused! Reese Witherspoon has been nominated (I believe on more than one occasion) for PETA’s World’s Sexiest Vegetarian Award and Jake Gyllenhaal is casually known in the vegetarian world as perhaps, probably a Veg Head. So what the hell is this about?

Justjared.com, a friend of Ecorazzi and a popular online gossip site, is reporting that yesterday Reese and Jake enjoyed a meal at Prune restaurant in New York City and: The couple dined and laughed with four friends and even shared a steak for two! They “were really cute,” adds the source. “They were really sweet together and they looked really in love.”

Hold up! Stop the car! Halt the train! Freeze the beat! A STEAK FOR TWO? WTF! True, this could just be gossip, but a quick trip to Prune’s less than vegetarian menu leaves me less than optimistic.  Say it ain’t so Gyllenspoon…SAY IT AIN’T SO!!!

Reese Witherspoon Empowering Women

Filed under: donations, fashion, honors — paige @ 8:27 pm

avon-rw.jpgReese Witherspoon is speaking out to empower women. She joins other celebrity celebrity dignitaries like George Clooney and Angelina Jolie as she showed up at the United Nations to speak about domestic violence globally.  As honorary chairperson of the Avon Foundation, Witherspoon was on hand to recognize the new partnership between Avon and the United Nations Development Fund for Women [UNIFEM], in their efforts to end domestic violence.  The partnership announcement was part of the Global Summit for a Better Tomorrow held at the United Nations in celebration of International Women’s Day, which will be recognized globally on March 8, 2008. According to sources:

Ahead of International Women’s Day this weekend, Avon CEO Andrea Jung announced the partnership between her company and UNIFEM, in which the Avon Foundation will match the first $500,000 in sales of a “Women’s Empowering Bracelet” for the U.N. Trust to End Violence Against Women.

The “infinity” shape bracelet symbolizes a never-ending commitment to ending domestic violence and can be purchased for $3 at Avon.com. Witherspoon certainly is a role model when it comes to women’s empowerment in her role as Avon Ambassador, actress, and mother.  Power to the Women!

Second Annual Idol Gives Back To Include Pitt, Bono, Underwood

Filed under: music, television — michael @ 12:22 pm

idol.pngWith last year’s first ever Idol Gives Back generating $76 million for charity, organizers are ramping up this year’s efforts to include even more celebrity power. The night’s line-up includes Bono, Brad Pitt, Reese Witherspoon, Miley Cyrus, Mariah Carey, Eli Manning, Peyton Manning, Fergie, Chris Daughtry, Carrie Underwood, Annie Lennox, John Legend and Snoop Dogg. [Ed note: Because nothing says family entertainment like Snoop Dogg.]

While no charities or organizations have been named yet as beneficiaries of the event, there no doubt will be a wide range of groups set to take part. From the article,

“While last year’s two-hour show was spread over the course of two nights, this time around, “Idol Gives Back” has been condensed to a one-night, but still two-hour, show. It airs Apr. 9.”

I haven’t watched Idol for a few seasons, but I love the idea of leveraging the massive audience numbers to help make a difference for charities. For more info, check out the official site here.

The Green Quote: Reese Witherspoon Is Very Trashy

Filed under: not green — michael @ 10:36 am

reece.jpg“I like to throw a lot of things away. Particularly at Christmas, it makes me a little crazy when the trash is overflowing. So then I put on rubber boots and I literally get into the trash can and I stomp on the trash and [my son] Deacon thinks it’s so great. We call me ‘the mommy trash compactor.’ Sometimes I’ll sneak in and look at the neighbor’s garbage cans and see if it’s kind of empty. I’ll wait literally until the middle of the night when the children are asleep and I’ll take my extra garbage and I’ll put it in the can.”

–Actress Reese Witherspoon during an interview on The Ellen DeGeneres Show.

[Ed Note: Someone teach this girl how to compost and recycle. That’ll cut her trash habit down in no time.]

The Green Picture: Ryan Phillippe’s Daughter Goes Green

Filed under: fashion — michael @ 10:14 am

phillipe.jpg

Ava — the daughter of Reese Witherspoon and Ryan Phillippe — was recently spotted wearing a “Go Green” t-shirt from designer Verymeri. All of the shirts in the collection are designed by kids. While not sporting any eco-features (such as organic cotton) the tees are made locally in Los Angeles and a portion of the profits goes towards the Free Arts For Abused Children org. You can also pick up a tee that says “Kindergarten Rocks!”. I couldn’t agree more. I miss nap time.
