She had more to say about her eco-choices, “I am trying to stick to products that are earth friendly and free of chemicals that can be harmful to children. You know, I am trying to follow the advice I have learned in books such as Raising Baby Green. It is not always easy so I am taking it slow.”

Bravo to Laila for making thoughtful purchases, and she’s even asking her fans to email her with recommendations for baby items they like. The list of products she has on her blog makes me think maybe ecorazzi readers could suggest a few eco products for baby Curtis. She’s listed green diapers, but also leather shoes and non-organic cotton onesies. Maybe she’d enjoy some tips to expose her to organic and sustainable baby gear.  She’s obviously open to good information and willing to learn about natural options.

This has nothing to do with money, right? 

The AMA is none too pleased that talk show host Rick Lake’s documentary, The Business of Being Born, has been receiving great publicity and acclaim from media outlets. The film asks the question “Should most births be viewed as a natural life process, or should every delivery be treated as a potentially catastrophic medical emergency?” and apparently the AMA is answering with a “no” and “yes”.  

They’ve recently issued a mandate that would declare the hospital the “safest setting” for birth. Nothing like taking away choices from people — or scaring the hell out of them into going your way. Thanks, AMA!

Nowadays it seems that everyone is pulling their money together and opening up a school in some other country. Oprah Winfrey, of course, started the trend with her Henley-On-Klip Leadership Academy in South Africa in 2006, and Ecorazzi told you how Ricki Lake was helping her nanny build a school. Well now the material girl herself has announced plans to open an all-girls school of her own in Malawi.

Madonna recently told Elle magazine: “I’m buying land and getting permission to build a girl’s school. The women will play a big role in the future and rebirth of Malawi.”  Why Malawi? Madonna adopted her son David from the country in 2006 and has been quoted saying : “People always ask me why I chose Malawi. And I tell them, I didn’t. It chose me.”

Does anyone remember this: “Ricki, Ricki, Ricki, Ricki”? Well do a few stretches and warm up those vocal chords-I’m about to give you a reason to shout, “Ricki” again.

Actress turned talk show host, Ricki Lake, is following in the steps of the Queen Of Bottled Water herself, Madonna, and getting involved with Malawi. Apparently, Ricki’s Malawian nanny founded the Jacaranda School in the African country and now Ricki’s pitching in to help build a latrine.

Lake admitted that Madonna was her inspiration for getting involved with Malawi after she adopted her son David from the country. Lake said, “I love that Madonna adopted this baby and has brought so much attention to Malawi. She’s my hero.”

From Hairspray to Serial Mom to interracial drag queens in incestual relationships to Malawi, I call this is a good career move on the old checkerboard of life. So, I’ve said it once and I’ll say it again: “Ricki, Ricki, Ricki, Ricki!!!!”
