Both Pink and Gervais have been strong supporters of PETA in the past and have worked on numerous campaigns individually. So you can bet we were way super excited when we heard the pair was teaming up for yet another one!

On Gervais’ blog, he wrote:  “It’s a great idea and I play a rabbit, and Pink plays an alligator. I’ll post it when it’s all finished and shiny.”

Comedian Ricky Gervais has revealed in a recent blog entry that him and rocker Pink have joined forces on a new ad for PETA. “Did a cinema charity ad for Peta,” he writes. “It’s a great idea and I play a rabbit, and Pink plays an alligator. I’ll post it when it’s all finished and shiny.”

Hmmm…will this new ad address animals skins or vegetarianism?

Both Pink and Gervais have supported PETA in the past over issues like bear-fur hats on the Queen’s Guards and the cruelty of NYC’s horse carriage industry. Should be interesting to see how this one turns out when it’s ready!

“They’re 50 quid down, I’ve got nothing, the African family’s going, ‘Not another mouth to feed.’ It’s ridiculous. There’s nothing in it for the goat. The goat wakes up in barren land going, “Where am I? A week ago I was gamboling through the Cotswolds in glades and then someone just kidnapped me, put me on a boat, took me to Africa.” It’s like Roots in reverse. I bet he didn’t want to go to Africa. I think the goat had no choice. …”

Well sure, a lot of people thought he was simply making a joke — and he might have been — but it turns out that Gervais is actually quite VEG-curious. In a recent interview, Ricky confessed to loving Christmas roast and cocktail sausages wrapped in bacon, but stated that he’s suffering with the morality of eating meat and is now “nearly vegetarian.”  

I can’t say I’m particularly surprised with this news, as Gervais previously donated his time to help convince the Queen to stop using real bear fur in the Royal Guards’ caps. Pretty groovy!

Earlier this year Ecorazzi reported that the Queen Of England still supports using real bear skin in the Royal Guards’ caps and refuses to switch to a more humane alternative. To bring attention to the issue, celebrities like Sir Roger Moore, Twiggy and Hayley Mills have all lent their name to help fight for change. James Cromwell even wrote a personal letter to the Queen requesting reform.

Now Gervais, who you probably know from the original version of The Office, has written a letter to U.K. Prime Minister Gordon Brown asking him to replace the bear fur on the Queen’s Guards’ caps with a cruelty-free material. Gervais said, “I was shocked to learn that it takes an entire hide of one bear to make a single headpiece. Many of these highly intelligent animals are shot several times before they die. Those who aren’t killed outright often slowly bleed to death. Bear cubs are also often orphaned when their mothers are killed. Scared and vulnerable, many cubs are unable to survive on their own, and they starve to death.”
