However, some folks have scooped up the DVD and are reporting that there’s a fairly in-depth bonus feature on how the producers took the production green. Said one tipster Amy, “Apparently, it was very important to the creator, Chris Carter, to do that–everything from using green generators, hybrids for all transpo, biodegradable utensils, etc. He narrates the segment and it’s great to see!” Damnit, now I might have to Netflix it. The event will help raise millions for this season’s charity rockstar, Feeding America.

Remember that used tissue that Scarlett Johansson was auctioning off on behalf of USA Harvest, a hunger-relief organization? Yea, well it just sold for $5,300! If we’re to believe one of our commenters, that one tissue will probably generate an insane amount of Johansson clones. Will this money go towards funding programs to help with poverty or drug rehabilitation? Nope. It will buy about 50 high-powered rifles. Spade, a Phoenix native, provided the money to a non-profit police foundation after seeing a jarring television news report about gun violence. The unfortunate reality is that criminals often have better weapons than officers. So, he’s hoping to level the field with this donation. Oh, and I’m scratching Phoenix off of my “places to live”.
You might remember that PETA took the company on last spring for selling boots lined in seal fur (just typing that made my stomach churn…) and won. Gucci agreed to stop selling such a monstrous product.

Then, they became a sponsor of UNICEF. This sponsorship made activists very skeptical, as it seemed a frivolous gesture to tug a few public heartstrings from such an opulent company (not to mention its shady Madonna benefit), but I am a huge fan of UNICEF. So I still got excited when I saw that Gucci has a new line coming out with 25% of every purchase going to UNICEF. I don’t think that’s as much as the RED campaign, but damn, that IS a chunk of change for a large company to agree to give.

These products, featured in the “Tattoo Heart Campaign,” are being promoted by Rihanna. Hopefully she’ll do the cause a bit more justice than Madonna did… Gucci brought her on board after seeing the singer at a UNICEF benefit, so it sounds like her heart is in the right place.

Pop star Rihanna is pictured here wearing what looks to be a fur collar and we can’t determine if it’s real or fake. Nowadays it’s hard to tell the difference – although many times faux is still derived from animals.

While Rihanna is really good about raising money for charity, we know that animal issues aren’t really a big concern to her. In fact, after Rihanna and Chris Brown were caught kissing in a Florida KFC, the company sent a letter to the couple saying: “Clearly, like our founder Colonel Sanders, you two know how to kick it up a few degrees. We could feel the heat – literally – in our restaurant that night. So much so that we’d like to invite you and Chris back to any KFC for a free meal.”

Do we have any fur experts out there? If you think you can spot the real stuff, chime in and share your thoughts!

There’s a lot to do in NYC. You can visit the Statue of Liberty, take in a broadway show, or you could spend an evening shaking your booty for charity. Rihanna chose the latter and spent Wedensday evening performing at the Highline Ballroom to benefit both her charity Believe and DKMS.

Believe is a a public charity organization dedicated to assisting terminally ill children worldwide. Its mission is to assist and inspire children who suffer from life-threatening diseases including cancer, leukemia and AIDS. Therefore it’s super appropriate that she’s teamed up with DKNS — the largest non-profit marrow donor center in the world.

Rihanna told the press “When I was young and I would watch television and I would see all the children suffering, I always said when I grow up I want to help.”

And help you have! Thanks Rihanna for keeping your eye on the prize. Oh and congrats on your recent appointment as Ambassador of Culture and Youth in Barbados! You deserve it chica!

The Gap has RED and now H&M has AIDS. Wait…um…that came out wrong. What I mean is that H&M has just announced a campaign to help FIGHT aids. The project is called Fashion Against Aids, and combines the talent of established designers with the booty shaking power of some of today’s hottest artists, like, Rihanna, Timbaland, Good Charlotte, My Chemical Romance, Rufus Wainwright, and Ziggy Marley.

It’s been estimated that twelve million young people between the ages of 15-24 are now infected with the AIDS virus and H&M hopes this campaign helps draw attention to the severity of the epidemic. The seed for this idea was planted (no pun intended) by Designers Against AIDS , a non-profit organization that collaborates with fashion designers and artists to help change public opinion.

In the spirit of charity, all of the celebrities will be donating their time, and 25 percent of the profits will go to HIV/AIDS-prevention projects around the world. Furthermore, each piece of the collection is made from 100 percent certified organic cotton and will rock a special tag that reads: “This might be the most important piece of clothing you’ve ever had your hands on.”

So run, hop or skip over to H&M and show them a little lovin (safe lovin, of course). Oh and a tip: H&M makes clothes for skinny people so always get one size larger. You’re welcome.

We want to continue make this cause a topic of conversation.”

Wall intends to build upon his influence in orchestrating every government of the world to come together, negotiate and ratify a treaty for environmental change by 2010. Go get ‘em, Kevin!

In the meantime, a Live Earth DVD and a Live Earth CD will be available for sale in two weeks worldwide. The DVD has three parts: onstage performances, a behind-the-scenes documentary of creating and greening the show, and a collection of 20 short films that were made for the event. The CD/DVD package will feature Linkin Park, Metallica, Madonna, Smashing Pumpkins, The Police, Kelly Clarkson, Dave Matthews Band, Foo Fighters, John Mayer, Beastie Boys, Keith Urban, Rihanna and many more.
