Ryan Cabrera looks all hip and grown up.  I remember him as a fresh faced kid hanging out with Ashley Simpson some years back – time flies. While promoting his new album  The Moon Under Water he gave an interview about one of his favorite environmental accomplishments, “Well, I mean I guess the coolest one I did…and we converted a Prius into a plug-in, which instead of like—you know it runs half on battery and half on gas—we converted it to become even better for the environment.“

He went on to discuss his frustrations with the auto industry, “And the problem is—and not only is that better for the environment but it’s just speaking out against the fact that a lot of car-makers who obviously are in that business to make money, there’s a lot of things that they can do that they don’t do and they just say that they can’t do it. And people let them get away with that, which what we were trying to prove. Because what they’re saying is like, ‘oh, it takes too long and too many men to convert the cars into plug-ins, so it’s going to be a long time before we get that done.’ So we went out in front of the auto show and we did it in like two hours. So it was just like ok, don’t believe everything they tell you. We did it in two hours. It can be done if you demand it. You have to demand it and make them the ones that have to do it, you know?”

Ryan assisted Rainforest Alliance Network (RAN) and Plug in America on the Prius conversion. The main goal was to show American automakers that you can gain significant fuel efficiency on cars today, with technology already available.
