ABC has announced that it will air a new series under the banner of Ryan Seacrest Productions featuring UK Chef Jamie Oliver giving healthy makeovers to places around the U.S.

The project came about after Seacrest talked about the poor quality of school lunches on his radio program in Los Angeles and received a huge response. Oliver, who has been working hard to improve kids’ lunches in the UK, had been looking to bring his campaign stateside. The stars aligned, the two met, and a new series was born.

“I couldn’t do what I do in terms of my schedule if I didn’t eat right and exercise right,” Seacrest said. “As a kid I was chubby, and I’m a firm believer that the fuel we put into our body results in a healthy lifestyle. Jamie’s going to come over here, roll up his sleeves and use the resources of each town to help condition living habits to make it a better and healthier place.”

According to Reuters, ABC has ordered six hours of the project from Ryan Seacrest Productions. While the first city has yet to be announced, it’s expected that it will be a location often featured on “fattest cities” lists. Should be interesting to see how successful Oliver is in reducing wastelines. No pun intended, but the guy’s got a huge challenge ahead of him.

Looks like everyone is getting caught up in the act of giving over Twitter — and we’re psyched to see it infecting more and more celebrities. As an act of solidarity and congratulations on his beating CNN to one million Twitter followers, many celebrities are jumping on to Ashton Kutcher’s call to raise money for fighting malaria. One organization in particular, MalariaNoMore, is getting massive publicity across the media waves as a result of the competition and worldwide interest.

Just a few hours ago, CNN announced that they would be matching Kutcher’s donation of 10,000 nets (the original bet was that the loser would only give 1,000 — but we’re thinking that would just look lame at this point.). Ryan Seacrest also jumped in on the 10,000 nets and made a Twitter call to Oprah and Diddy to do the same. Oprah, who just started using Twitter today, announced that she would be giving cash for $20,000 nets — something that works out to around $200K.

Should be interesting to see who else joins the fun — but with other celebrities like Hugh Jackman also using Twitter to give cash to charitable organizations, we may be witnessing the birth of a new (and powerful) cash-raising machine for Hollywood initiatives.

We’re not sure whether they were being generous or just attempting to pull some favor — but either way, E! Entertainment Television certainly flashed the cash by donating to Brad Pitt and Angelina’s Jolie’s foundation last year. The media entity’s gift was one of only four received by the charity last year — with only one other not coming from Brad or Angelina themselves. From the article,

The E! donation certainly added to the stunning amount Jolie & Pitt gave away through this foundation in 2007: $3.4 million.

Where did the money go? It’s nice to say it did not go to any kooky religions or cults. Instead, the couple put the money to causes they’ve been vocal about. The largest single recipient was Pitt’s Make it Right Foundation in New Orleans, which got $1,364,320 million. They also split $1 million evenly among three different UN based organizations working in Darfur, Pitt’s other pet cause. Another $400,000 went to Cambodia’s children’s causes, a country from which they adopted a child, plus $150,000 to a project in his name: the Maddox Chivan Children’s Center.

It’s interesting to note that if E! was expecting more face time with the couple, those expectations certainly have not been met. Host Ryan Seacrest was famously snubbed by the couple during the ‘09 Golden Globe Awards — and only received a brief hello from Pitt during the Oscars. As FOXNews.com points out, any favor E! might hope to gain from their act of kindness could be tempered by headlines like this one from February 20, 2009: “Angelina — From Sex Kitten to Emaciated Mama.”

Let’s face it — whether you like it or not, reality television has raped the entertainment world and in it’s wake has left us all perhaps a little dumber and a lot more voyeuristic. Still, with all the negatives that can be said about the genre, you can also find a few positives floating in the debris. Enter Reality Cares.

Reality Cares works with reality television executives, producers, writers, cast members, publicists and viewers on a purely volunteer basis to support philanthropic endeavors. On Saturday, June 14, Reality Cares will team up with Dogs In Danger to host the Reality Cares Dogs Next Door event. The afternoon will be hosted by organization spokesperson and Amazing Race contestant, Shana Wall.

Wall said: “Every four seconds a dog is needlessly euthanized in our country alone, simply due to lack of space in our shelters. When I learned about the mission of Dogs In Danger, I jumped at the opportunity to be their national spokesperson. My hope is that our fundraiser brings awareness to this issue so that we can continue to save these dogs from their otherwise tragic fates.”

Celebrities like Ryan Seacrest, Lisa Rinna & Harry Hamlin, Kelly Rutherford, Linda Blair and Lisa Foxx are scheduled to attend, and actor/reality star Jai Rodriguez will emcee a doggy fashion show starring a few precious puppies saved from euthanasia.

Sound like fun? Well good news for you — there are still a few tickets available to the public. Visit DogsInDanger.com and get your tickets now!
