Unlike the previous scenic montages we’ve viewed, Home actually takes a hard look at human impact on the planet — all the while doing it with visuals that are stunning. A myriad of celebrities — including Justin Timberlake, Bill Murray, Huey Lewis, Michael Bolton, and Kevin James — participated in the 3M Celebrity Golf Challenge yesterday. About $29,000 in charity cash was up for grabs to the winner — which ultimately went to Bolton and James on the last putt. Some of Australia’s biggest stars participated in a telethon yesterday to help raise money for those affected by the horrible brush fires raging there this week. According to E!, “Russell Crowe, Naomi Watts, Hugh Jackman, Mel Gibson, Rachel Griffiths, Orlando Bloom and his model-girlfriend Miranda Kerr, Ellen DeGeneres and a host of musicians like k.d. lang, politicians and sports legends, all of whom sent appeals asking for money on behalf of the Nine Network’s Australia Unites telethon.” Nicole Kidman and her husband Keith Urban personally donated $300,000. Salma Hayek, Jennie Garth and Tina Fey got an eco-friendly surprise when the folks at Style Café Moms – an “online café for the trendy mom” — sent the stars their Celebrity Basket full of some swanky eco-friendly goodies.

Included were products from Oscar & Belle, Obli Organic, Positively Organic, Tye Brand and Baby Breaux. About the basket, Jennie Garth said, “I received the package today from “Style Cafe Moms” and loved everything…I have recently crossed over to green living, and it is very important to me. I loved the little blue dress with the stitching and the yellow one too! My oldest daughter loves the tye-dye shirt! I just wanted to thank you so very much for thinking of us! We will use the products and tell all about them.”

This past Saturday afternoon at Hillhaven Lodge in LA, a bevy of Hollywood celebrities helped celebrate the launch of Jurlique’s new Biodynamic Beauty Range. Guests enjoyed an afternoon of relaxation and renewal with complimentary hand and food treatments using the new line and biodynamic and locally sourced food and wine.

Those in attendance included Salma Hayek, Rosanna Arquette, Paris Hilton, Stevie Wonder, Oliver Stone, Jamie-Lynn Sigler, Gerard Butler, Francis Ford Coppola, Naomie Harris, Scott Caan, Jared Leto, Ileana Douglas, Claire Forlani, Nicole Esposito, Tracey Edmonds, and Sanaa Lathan. Quite the gathering, right?

We’re a big fan of Jurlique here on the Razz — especially with all of their products being hand-sown, hand-tended, and hand-harvested from their own certified organic, biodynamic farms in South Australia.

Not surprisingly, Daryl Hannah is attempting to take advantage of the green media grab by shopping her dhLoveLife web video series to television networks. According to one news source, Hannah is using her entire site and media to market the transition to television. With massive networks like Planet Green and The Sundance Channel eager to fill the digital waves with green original content, we’d be somewhat curious if nobody took her up on the offer. Actress Isabel Lucas is pulling up roots in Australia and permanently relocating to Hollywood to spend more time with boyfriend Adrian Grenier, help out with his show Alter Eco for Planet Green, and get to work on some new movie productions. Designer Sami Hayek, brother of actress Salma Hayek, has just signed a deal with Target for a new line of home furnishings and accessories. According to the release, the items will have minimal packaging, and the packaging itself can be reused, recycled or made into other objects, like CD holders and file folders. All this talk of packaging, however, leads us to believe the actual goods aren’t very eco-friendly. [Read more...]

Sporting icon Yao Ming has been criticized by the Chinese people for not donating enough to the recent earthquake disaster. Ming, who makes more than $55 million a year, initially only gave away $70,000 to a relief fund. “He’s been drinking milk and eating bread (like an American) for a while and he’s forgotten where he comes,” one posting said. “You are Chinese!” Ouch. Last night, Global Green USA’s 5th Annual Pre-Oscar Party rocked out in grand style with a bevy of celebrities, performers such as Michelle Branch and Damien Rice, and a focus on the environment and sustainable design. While we had spies all over, we sent our main duo Pleasant Wayne and Damien Somserset to cover the action on the red carpet. That video is to follow shortly, but right now, here are some highlights from Pleasant:

1. Tate Donovan would ride his bike to the moon to work with Jennifer Aniston again. (old Friends co-star) He brought his bike on the “green” grass carpet and is a huge advocate for biking in the city.

2. Dana Delany had a non-eco PRADA purse, but said she recylces her scripts on the set.

3. Jason Lewis jetted past the press line and we think he was with his Mom. Aww…

4. Salma Hayek wore a Stella McCartney pantsuit because she said she is trying to lose the baby weight – “I’m not Nicole Richie, ha ha!”

6. Molly Sims was gushing about how Eco her boyfriend, Justin Chatwin, (from War of the Worlds) is….didn’t get her to speak as she was rushing into the party.

7. Sofia Bush would never date someone who isn’t into GREEN living. She was wearing earrings made of crystal stone and diamonds.

8. Taylor Dane was cool – she’s been taking her kids camping and teaching them how to live a softer-on-the-earth life even though she’s a New Yorker at heart. She has her heart set on a hybrid SUV.

9. Josie Maran was promoting her new all-natural cosmetic line – “Josie Maran Cosmetics”. She said her biggest passion was using eco-friendly diapers and gave some interesting facts about disposable diapers and landfills. She was with her friend, Rainbow, who was wearing a vintage dress and works with Adidas – they are working on developing some eco-gear.

10. Adrian Grenier whizzed past the “tabloid” section.

11. There was some speculation that Michelle Branch had a baby bump from our neighbor Press friends! She wasn’t interviewing as she had to perform.

12. Bill Mahr arrived very late and was driving a hybrid SUV.

13. Ian Somerhalder from “Lost” and many other projects eats organically and practices Yoga…what a cutie!

14. Thomas Ian Nicholas from American Pie etc. donates his time to children’s charities in addition to being active with Global Green.

While the warm-up act that generally is considered the Golden Globes never showed, we’re all waiting with sick anticipation for the 2008 Academy Awards. Regardless of how the writers’ strike impacts things, there for sure will be plenty of alternative parties to enjoy. First and foremost on our radar is the 5th Annual Global Green USA Pre-Oscar Party.

As with previous years, the event promotes “smart solutions to global warming”. Proceeds raised go towards Global Green’s climate initiatives and also their current main focus, the green rebuilding of New Orleans. Last year, Maroon 5 was the headlining act. This time ’round, Michelle Branch will be entertaining, as well as some “surprise musical guest” not yet announced.

This party is one of the most star-studded in attendance during Oscar week. Of course, it helps to have some of the top A-listers on your Los Angeles committee. These include Orlando Bloom, Kate Bosworth, Penelope Cruz, Leonardo DiCaprio, David Duchovny, Salma Hayek, Edward Norton, and Charlize Theron.

Tickets are limited, but that doesn’t mean you can’t register now and enjoy the fun. $250 is the starting price for general admission — while $5K will get you “green carpet” access and entrance to the Patron Lounge. Remember, this is all for a great cause.

As always, we’ve no guarantees that any of the above celebrities will be in attendance. If previous years are any indication, however, you can expect to have one hell of a good time.

If the prospect of your cruise ship hitting an iceberg is too frightening for you to consider taking a journey to Antarctica, why not go for the next best thing? Antarctica: The Global Warning is a book of sumptuous photography by Sebastian Copeland (above, left), a big-wig at Global Green and (as it happens) the cousin of Orlando Bloom (above, right). With a foreword by former Soviet president Mikhail Gorbachev and a preface by green-supporter extraordinaire Leonardo DiCaprio, the coffee-table book provides proof positive (as if any such thing were needed) of the importance of preserving the sanctity of the seventh continent.

Copeland’s junior by thirteen years, Bloom (a.k.a. “Orly,”—to his cousin, anyway) accompanied the photographer-filmmaker on a journey to Antarctica last February aboard the Ice Lady Patagonia. Regal as the ship might sound, it’s actually a research vessel with few amenities. Nonetheless, the actor was overtaken by what he saw there, telling Elle magazine a few months later: “Those icebergs are so majestic, but they felt like dinosaurs to me, like a dying breed. I can imagine coming back to Antarctica next year or ten years from now and seeing the difference.”

Copeland says that his primary reason for his publishing the book was to raise consciousness and in so doing, pay back his debt to future generations. “You take one step at a time and before you know it, you start to rethink everything.” He’s also the first to admit that celebrities (such as his cousin as well as boldfaced names like Salma Hayek and Jake Gyllenhaal, both of whom accompanied him to the other of Earth’s extremities, the Arctic—see below) have an even greater ability than the rest of us to bring important attention to the cause, sounding the global warning for Antarctica and the other continents as well.
