Palin Camp And PETA Throw Words Over Snowball Game

Filed under: animals — michael @ 10:47 am

peta_snowball

Just because Governor Sarah Palin is taking a brief respite from the spotlight (Sadly, she will probably be back) doesn’t mean PETA is keen to let her off the hook. The former Republican Vice-Presidential nominee is well known for her thin animal rights record — and PETA is giving everyone the chance to chuck a virtual snowball her way.

It’s all part of a new online game that also includes Madonna, Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen, and the Colonel from KFC. “Make the holidays safe by fighting back against notorious animal abusers,” the site says. Turns out not everyone in Palin-land is taking the dig quietly.

According to PETA, someone claiming to be a Palin rep called the organization and threatened to sue if the game wasn’t taken down. PETA’s Vice President Bruce Friedrich said, “Sarah Palin is a bully who never saw an animal she didn’t want to kill, so it’s not surprising that her staff would try to intimidate us anonymously and then backtrack when called out. Our game represents a fun way to focus attention on a very serious subject — cruelty to animals supported by Sarah Palin and other targets of the game — and we have no intention of taking it down in response to these pathetic attempts at intimidation.”

According to the LA Times, Palin’s Communications Director, Bill McAllister, says the whole thing is a lie. “We take all kinds of shots all the time,” he says.”We realize we’re a fair target. I could care less about the game.”

Care to throw a snowball? Check out the game here.

Sarah Palin Talks Politics While Thanksgiving Turkeys Get Slaughtered

Filed under: animals, film-tv, interviews, television — parrish @ 11:36 am

How in the world am I gonna start THIS post? I don’t care much for Sarah Palin…okay, I can’t stand the woman! There, I said it! I had to keep my mouth shut during the election because we didn’t want to tell our readers who to vote for, but the election is over and I’m ready to go on the record.

This morning I woke up to countless emails and text messages from friends and readers with news that Sarah Palin had recently taken questions from the media live on camera while Thanksgiving turkeys were getting slaughtered in the background. I’m not kidding here!!! This is by far one of the most disturbing, insensitive videos I’ve ever seen! What was she possibly thinking?

Check out the video below and see this train wreck for yourself!

Sarah Palin Gets Prank Call, Agrees Hunting By Helicopter ‘Lots Of Fun’

Filed under: animals — michael @ 1:24 pm

Republican Vice-Presidential nominee Sarah Palin got punk’d yesterday by a Canadian comedian posing as French President Nicolas Sarkozy over the phone. The two discussed politics, Sarkozy’s “beautiful wife’, and the perils of hunting with Vice President Dick Cheney. Here’s a small snippet from MSNBC,

“He tells Palin one of his favorite pastimes is hunting, also a passion of the 44-year-old Alaska governor. ‘I just love killing those animals. Mmm, mmm, take away life, that is so fun,’ the fake Sarkozy says. He proposes they go hunting together by helicopter, something he says he has never done.

‘Well, I think we could have a lot of fun together while we’re getting work done,’ Palin counters. ‘We can kill two birds with one stone that way.’

The comedian then jokes that they shouldn’t bring Cheney along on the hunt, referring to the 2006 incident in which the vice-president shot and injured a friend while hunting quail. ‘I’ll be a careful shot,’ responds Palin.”

Hunting wolves from helicopters while discussing politics? Ah, the potential future of American diplomacy. Apparently, Palin only caught on that the call was a joke after the comedian let the ruse fall and told her who he was. “Ohhh, have we been pranked?” Palin asked before handing the phone to an aide who ended the call.

The Obama campaign amusingly responded to the news saying, “I’m glad we check out our calls before we hand the phone to Barack Obama.” Check out the full audio of the conversation here.

After OneXOne Charity Event, Matt Damon Now Heads To Florida To Help Obama

Filed under: campaigns, donations, politics — michael @ 9:36 am

matt damonLast night, Matt Damon and Wyclef Jean helped host another charity benefit for OneXOne, an international charity targeting poor children. The event took place in San Francisco. Earlier in September, Damon and Wyclef hosted another benefit for the organization in Toronto. It was after this meeting that the pair then flew to Haiti to assist with those ravaged by the Hurricane season.

Before last night kicked off, however, Damon and Wyclef spent time with David Arquette passing out grapes at the San Francisco Food Bank’s Arriba Juntos pantry in the Mission. The three of them spent about an hour handing out food, signing autographs, and talking with folks in line. “I don’t expect anybody to know who the hell I am,” Damon told the SFGate, adding that in his travels, here and in Africa, many people he meets don’t have enough money for food, let alone a ticket to see his movies.

Next, Damon will head to Florida for the weekend to help the Obama campaign in getting out the vote. After that, he heads to Morocco to finish shooting a movie — but plans to stay involved with the political effort practically every step of the way. “I’m sure I’ll be on the phone over there after filming every night,” he said. “I’ll do telephone interviews or whatever they’ll have me do. I want to sprint to the finish with the millions of us who really have been desperate for this change.”

Regarding his previous negative comments on Sarah Palin, Damon said he would no longer talk about the Republican ticket. “The Obama campaign has decided to focus on the positive, and I should be a bigger man and be able to do that with them,” he said.

A Mounted Moose Speaks Out Against Sarah Palin For VP

Filed under: animals, politics — michael @ 1:24 pm

We’ve all seen those creepy animatronic talking deer heads at the store, but this new ad from MoveOn.org take that one step further with a moose on the wall of Sarah Palin’s home. Referencing his mounted buddies (including a polar bear) around him, the moose questions McCain’s judgment in picking Palin as his running mate saying, “McCain is 72 and she could end up in charge. She may be a little trigger-happy. I should know.”

You can check out the ad below:

Palin Breaks With McCain By Favoring Federal Ban On Gay Marriage

Filed under: politics — michael @ 4:17 pm

With so many celebrities stepping up to say no to Proposition 8 in California — which seeks to overturn an earlier state Supreme Court ruling allowing gay marriage — I thought it only proper to mention this news of Republican Vice-Presidential nominee Sarah Palin’s stance on the issue.

During an interview with the Christian Broadcasting Network, Palin said that she supported a Constitutional amendment that would ban same-sex unions. “I have voted along with the vast majority of Alaskans who had the opportunity to vote to amend our Constitution defining marriage as between one man and one woman,” she said.”I wish on a federal level that’s where we would go. I don’t support gay marriage.”

This view is contrary to the positions of her running mate, Senator John McCain — who believes states should be left to decide such matters.

It should be noted that Democratic Vice-Presidential nominee Joe Biden appeared on Ellen yesterday and publicly decried the Prop 8 amendment; calling it “regressive” and “unfair” and added that he and running mate Barack Obama opposed a similar initiative nationally.

Let’s hope America puts intolerance behind it this coming November and makes the right choice. It won’t put this matter to rest completely, but having two progressive, compassionate leaders in office would certainly be a step in the right direction.

Todd Palin Says Hunting And Fishing Are America’s Core Values

Filed under: green and famous — michael @ 6:41 pm

If you’d like a small dose of “WTF?” to go with your Sunday evening R&R, look no further than this comment by Todd Palin, husband of Republican Vice-Presidential nominee Sarah Palin. “It is important to have a ticket, “he said while speaking at a gun club in PA, “that supports our core values — hunting and fishing.”

So, there you have it. Vote McCain/Palin — because America isn’t a country that should support environmental policies, economic reform, or universal health care. It’s a country of hunters and fisherman. That’s what matters.

Stay classy, Todd.

Razzi Snap: King Of The Hill’s Eco-Fail

Filed under: cars-houses, film-tv, green and famous, politics, television, transport — michael @ 11:43 am

A couple Sunday’s ago, Fox television’s cartoon series King Of The Hill aired an episode titled “Earthy Girls Are Easy.” (You can watch the full episode here.) As Grist points out, this episode was “a horrendous letdown.” Here’ a bit from their review: “It was everything KotH is usually not: thuddingly obvious, inauthentic, mean-spirited, and most damning of all, not funny. Really. At all. Characters are forced to make long speeches that sound nothing like them. Everything is discussed in terms of flat-footed caricatures. The choices and dichotomies reflect a woefully poor understanding of the subject matter. And so on. It was as though someone co-opted the show to write a long, blustery, ill-informed blog post.” [Read more...]
