Earlier this Spring, Sienna Miller traveled to the Democratic Republic of the Congo to document the lives of women living in a treacherous conflict. “I broke down twice on this trip,” she wrote in a blog entry for TakePart.com. The first time after being in the displacement camp outside Goma, seeing the woman with the colostomy bag. I had to step into an empty tent and sob. I had consciously planned on keeping it together, but the visual and the look in her eyes broke me. After that, some form of defense mechanism kicks in. Of course you feel enormous empathy but there is no room for personal emotion in these places.”

Her short documentary, titled 8 minutes, is named after the horror that a woman is raped in the Congo every 8 minutes. Have a look below — and to find out how you can help, click here.

The controversy surrounding the popular Nobu’s sushi restaurant chain (co-owned by Robert DeNiro) continues to grow. Last September, Greenpeace threw the opening shot after it discovered endangered bluefin tuna on the menu. Weeks later, Nobu answered the charges — not by removing the tuna — but by adding a moronic warnings to their menus that the fish people were about to eat was endangered. Not quite the action Greenpeace was looking for.

Now, in conjunction with the new documentary The End of The Line, celebrities are signing a petition to raise the heat on Nobu’s management and hopefully get the bluefin removed permanently. Elle Macpherson, Sienna Miller, Alicia Silverstone, Charlize Theron, Sting and Trudie Styler, Ted Danson, Woody Harrelson and Stephen Fry are among the 31 famous folks who have signed a petition vowing not to patronize Nobu London until it stops serving the near-extinct tuna. From their statement:

“As customers and fans of Nobu we strongly feel that bluefin tuna must be completely removed from your menu due to its perilous position as an extremely endangered animal. Nobu is a restaurant we all love, a world leader in sushi with a fantastic reputation and enormous influence. If Nobu took a definitive stand on this issue it could make a critical difference.”

Nobu is not one to take celebrity criticism of its establishment lightly. The restaurant is a haven for the rich and famous — so such involvement from Hollywood in the matter will certainly make a difference. The only question is: Will they choose protecting a species of fish over tastebuds? Japanese chefs consider bluefin to be the tastiest of all tuna — hence it’s popularity in sushi restaurants. Having Nobu take the lead on dropping bluefin could potentially lead to others following its lead.

We’re just waiting for DeNiro to stop wussing out and do the right thing. That’s right, we’re talking to you.

The actress is seeking to raise awareness of violence in the country. Since 1998, over four million people have died in a conflict that continues to claim 45,000 every month due to violence, starvation, and disease. Here’s a brief highlight for her first blog entry:

“I don’t really know what I expected the Democratic Republic of Congo to be like. Rwanda felt peaceful, but upon crossing the border, the violence which I have read so much about became apparent. The people weren’t hostile, but we were greeted by a truckload of army guys with rocket launchers on their laps. And our head of security, Martin Gilmour, who has almost definitely seen it all. I’m traveling with my best friend Tori, Margeret Aguirre from the International Medical Corps and David Serota our cinematographer. We get a security briefing before leaving the border: don’t go anywhere alone, be smart, body language is important, a smile goes a long way.. .and if we get a gun out in our faces, to remain calm and let Martin do the talking. The country feels so different to Rwanda… bustling markets, smoke, chickens and goats running freely, men and women holding hands, and I smile at the universal language of love.

In a new music for British indie rock band The Hours’, Sienna Miller makes an” interesting” costume choice…covering herself in cow’s blood.

At the start of the video Sienna appears wearing a hospital gown and totally freaking out as she tries to escape from a clothing store. Later, Miller walks into a room filled with dripping cow carcasses and proceeds to rub the blood all over her body, before blurting out the line: “Death feels like the safest place for me right now.” She later tries to cram herself into a glass cabinet and struggles through piles of high heel shoes.

The band’s frontman Ant Genn said: “It’s a song about struggle and addiction and fear and darkness… And the video brings it to life. The song and the film work perfectly together.” Umm…ummm…ummm…gross?

Artsy or not, that video sounds absolutely revolting. What do you think, readers? Does the sound of this video make you want to barf, or it’s all in the spirit of art? Chime in and share your thoughts!

You’ll recognize some familiar names such as Daryl Hannah, Angelina Jolie, Gwyneth Paltrow, Sienna Miller Natalie Portman, Cameron Diaz, and others. One name in particular stands out for those of us in online green circles: Victoria Everman! This rising eco-model/writer is included in Chopper’s list and even has a beautiful shirt named in her honor.
Such is the case with Lauren Conrad and her recent fight to stop the slaughter of seals in Canada. Ecorazzi reported earlier about this horrific problem when Pamela Anderson used her fame to help make a difference, and now it looks like Lauren is speaking out too.

Lauren said, “I am a huge animal lover and that includes seals. I think the killing of innocent baby seals is awful and should definitely not be allowed.”

Like Lauren and Pamela, other celebrities that have spoken out on behalf of seal, including Hayden Panettiere and Sienna Miller. America’s Next Top Model judge Nigel Barker even designed a t-shirt that says “Make A Fashion Statement, Save the Seals.” However, I find that fishy (no pun intended) after Nigel was so willing to sit back and allow that disgusting meat locker photo shoot on ANTM a couple weeks ago.

If you want to learn more about the cruel seal industry or just pick up some fashionable yet activisty gear, visit the Humane Society of the United States’ website and find out how you can get involved.

UPDATE: Dear Ecorazzi readers, sometimes I’m a jerk! Sometimes perhaps my passion for the environment and animal rights encourages me to jump to conclusions far too soon. If you read the comment section below you’ll see that in it Nigel Barker stands up for his role in protecting the seals and having nothing to do with the meatlocker episode of Top Model. The goal at Ecorazzi is to support people in the entertainment business that are doing wonderful things in the world and I’m sorry if I spoke out of turn. Please check out the shirt Nigel designed on HSUS and help support his awesome campaign. My apologies!

Global Cool, Vodafone UK and Sienna Miller have teamed up to recycle 500,000 mobile phones. Global Cool tells us, “Over 50 million handsets are currently sitting idle in UK households – and less than 5% of the 15 million that get thrown away each year are recycled. What’s more, the estimated worth of the nation’s old handsets is £1.1 billion – money which could be spent on planet saving projects like Solar Aid, which uses the power of the sun to help people help themselves in hot countries around the world.”
