The battle to encourage more designers to go fur-free rages on. Earlier this morning we showed you a new ad from PETA featuring a partially naked Khloe Kardashian urging the fur-free lifestyle. Now, we’ve got word of a new fashion design competition called “fffashion”.

The contest is a collaboration between Born Free USA united with Animal Protection Institute and E Magazine. The judges include some our favorite green personalities like Summer Rayne Oakes, Sophie Uliano, and E Magazine editor Brita Belli. “Being fur-free is both socially and environmentally responsible. Not only is the use of fur unconscionable in this progressive day and age, it is damaging to our wildlife, our ecosystems and people who work in fur processing factories,” says Uliano. “In short, it’s impossible to design with fur, sell fur, or wear fur, and claim one is anything close to being ‘green’.”

Independent designers are invited to enter their fur-free fashion designs for cash prizes and the chance to be featured in a full-page ad in the September/October issue of E Magazine. Sounds like a wonderful opportunity for any ethical designers out there looking to have their work exposed to the world!

On hand to support her was Oprah’s flavor of the month, perky Brit and “Gorgeously Green” author, Sophie Uliano, who also recently took Deborah’s wedding dresses on “The View.” Sophie, who wore an iconic Lindquist “Skull and Crossbones” cashmere cardi alongside good friend Julia Roberts on Oprah! is one of Deborah’s biggest fans. Sophie was quick to tell us that we should buy more luxury items that last longer, rather than cheap things that fall apart and end up in the landfill. “I save my money and buy one unique piece, like Deborah Lindquist, and it will be a timeless classic.” FYI, “Gorgeously Green” is currently #3 on the New York Times Bestseller List!

Also giving big love to Deborah was Stefanie LaRue of SLAM (The Stefanie LaRue Advocacy Movement), Think! Products’ spokesperson, and breast cancer warrior. Stefanie, stunning as ever in a DL turquoise reclaimed sari number, is branding awareness with young people about breast cancer through “SLAM,” and is committed to making the conversation lighthearted, sexy, and hip. That might sound like a complete oxymoron, but she’s got a point. “If you’re going to educate people, why not make it fun at the same time? People are more captivated when it’s fun. At the end of the day, they take on the message and the call to action.”

Deborah’s boutique opening was a Lindquist love fest and huge success. Contributing to the fun was gorgeous jewelry line Rumblefish, exquisite chef, Nick Brune of Ecocaters and a host of friends such as “Parducci” wines, “Honest” tea, “Sweet and Organic” Cakes, and “Biosmart Biodegradable Company.”
