In putting together our “8 Celebrities With Green Fashion Lines” gallery yesterday, Leona Lewis was dropped at the last minute. This is because we haven’t heard much about her eco-friendly clothing collection since it was rumored back in early 2008. We’re not saying it’s not coming, but Lenoa is obviously taking her time — something that’s probably for the best.

Anyways, the web lit up recently when the vegan English pop singer was spotted chatting with designer Stella McCartney during a charity event. An anonymous source was quoted as saying, “Leona and Stella got on famously. They are both vegetarians, don’t wear leather and are huge animal lovers. The [fashion] line would be very animal-friendly.”

Does anything in that quote make you believe that a definite partnership is in the works between these two? Me either. Yet titles around the web like “Stella McCartney to Team Up With Leona Lewis” have started popping up. We’re pretty sure it’s news to the two of them as well.

What we do know is that Lewis has a desire to bring out a collection that not only includes clothing, but accessories too. And the entire line will be vegan. Beyond that, if she hooks up with McCartney, all the better — but as Stella’s never collaborated with a celebrity before, we’re not holding our breath on this one.

Of course Stella would never use leather or fur, so we knew the line would not only be stylish, but cruelty-free as well.

This week, actress and mother of 1,000, Angelina Jolie was spotted taking her daughter Shiloh to shop the collection.

According to Stylecaster.com:

“After picking up two complete outfits right off the mannequins, Angelina purchased a bunch of Gap watches for the rest of the Brangelina crew.”

When all was said and done, Jolie spent close to $500 at GapKids on McCartney gear! We like! To check out the entire collection, visit Gap.com!

“Perfect little kids are not really very me. I wanted to have a bit of realness. When you’re talking about this kind of accessibility and children it’s really important that you feel comfortable throwing the lot of it in the washing machine and not being too precious with it.”

“To me, the fabric is so important, especially on a child, as they are so aware when things are scratchy.”

And just what sort of fabric will she use? Well, you can bet that there won’t be any leather or fur and that — priced reasonably from $14-$128 — it will be accessible for most families. Will you be buying Stella’s new collection for your favorite wee one? Chime in and let us know!

Heather Mills is a very busy woman. Not only is the celebrity activist busy with a new vegan cafe and frozen foods range — but she’s also getting ready to reveal a new eco-couture enterprise.

Dropping hints for us to follow and piece together, Mills will launch Be@1 this coming August 27th at the Highlands Hollywood in association with the charity event Celebrity Catwalk. The collection will restyle and recycle charity shop clothing — with one benefit, as Mills tweeted, being less waste thrown into the landfill.

At the end of July, the UK Evening Standard published a photo of Mills posing in one of the collection’s new outfits; sans price (but available upon request). We’ve no doubt that these will probably be expensive — especially since charity clothing tends to be a one-of-a-kind affair; unless they’re going with surplus swag. We also expect the entire line to be vegan-friendly — which will probably stir up the UK media to insinuate that Mills is somehow looking to steal Stella McCartney’s thunder.

Check out the splash page for Be@1 here. We’ll update with photos of Mills’ new line when it hits later this month.

It’s alright, it’s allowed – it doesn’t make you a kind of the person you don’t want to be. It just means you are doing something positive.”

“If everyone gave it up on a Monday it would be more effective than everyone stopping driving their car on a Monday. We are not perfect. It’s so important to get that across because it’s like oh, those bloody Maccas, talking again about not killing cows! It is boring. But the reality is, I like to think I am trying to do my little bit. I will turn off a light when I leave a room; I will turn off a socket if I don’t want to be using the socket. And those are tiny little things.”

That’s right, your kids will be able to afford something from Stella well before you can!

The line, expected to be out later this year, is something that McCartney has always wanted to pursue. “For years now I’ve wanted to create a collection for kids, it’s something I’ve often been asked about,” McCartney revealed to Vogue. “I believe that this one off collaboration will be a great way for customers to be able to participate in the Stella McCartney brand.”

We’re hoping that Stella continues her animal-free design style with this new collaboration. I guess if she’s putting her name on it, we can safely assume that’s going to carry over. “I believe that kids clothing should be more accessibly priced, which is particularly important at the moment given the current climate,” the designer said. “It’s really exciting for us to do a boys and girls collection for the first time.”

“Kanye West is the person pissing me off right now. I was at Stella McCartney’s Paris fashion show with the vice president of People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, Paul McCartney and Kanye West. The entire time Kanye is going, ‘They need more fur in this show’. He just wouldn’t shut up about how he loved fur. I mean, he’s saying this to me, the PETA guy and Paul McCartney! I was just so grossed out by him. I’m like, ‘You’re an idiot!’ There are so many people who I think are a waste of skin and he’s up there. I should wear him. Go on, donate yourself Kanye. Sounds to us like Kanye needs a little PETA action all up in his biznitch. I’m not sure if you’ve heard, but fur is never, never, never, never, never, never cool. Don’t make us send the troops!

It was a 1970 choice to be green, to eat lower on the food chain. I had heard it was better for the environment. It took less water, less land, less energy to grow 1 pound of broccoli than a pound of beef. So, for that reason, and in a humane world, the kinds of things that go on in slaughterhouses. It’s not like the old days of raising cows out in a pasture and I’m sorry Bessie but you’ve got to die so we can live. It’s not like that anymore. It’s very bad conditions in these factory farms. The hogs, chickens, cows and I don’t want to be a part of that. But for my own health, I thought it was better to eat a plant based diet. I’m going to be 60 soon and I have boundless energy and I feel really good so I’m all for it.” [Read more...]

The International Tribue has posted what I believe to be one of the clearest insights into the passion and drive behind Stella McCartney’s mission to change the fashion industry. The famous designer reveals how her roots in being a vegetarian and country girl prepared her for the life she leads today — as well as how the environment fits into the larger picture of the fabrics and ethics of the fashion industry. Some highlights below:

On how Stella got started on the road to ethical fashion:

“I was brought up that way, so it kind of came very naturally to me. I was brought up on an organic farm in the countryside and the whole family was vegetarian. So it sort of came without thinking. But then when it came to my having a career, starting a job and starting a brand in fashion, I guess it wouldn’t have sat comfortably with me to be hypocritical. I guess that was the starting point. The seeds were already sown in my personal life, and then they came into my business life.”

On not using leather or fur in any of her designs:

“Well I don’t do leather and I don’t do fur and it’s not just because I don’t eat animals or that I think that half a billion animals a year shouldn’t be killed for the sake of fashion. It’s because I also believe very much in the connection between fur and leather and the environment. There’s a huge connection.”

On how her values have been applied to her business:

“We have stores, for instance, around the world and the majority of them are powered by wind power. Our headquarters is powered by wind. We have bags that are all recycled paper; we have biodegradable corn bags; we’re just very conscious — we just think like that. It’s sort of part of everyday life now for me and for the people that work with me.”

That’s just a taste. The full interview is nearly three pages long and covers a great deal more. Jump here to check it out!
