Especially of concern to the animal-rights org is Armani’s new fall collection — which includes fur coats for babies and kids. First up is the Armani-wearing family of Tom, Katie, and Suri Cruise.

Dear Tom and Katie,

Greetings from PETA, where we’ve always admired your fur-free personal style. Because you are among the most highly visible wearers of Giorgio Armani, we are obliged to alert you to a distressing situation that has arisen with the company. We’ve been in talks with Armani for the past few years, asking the designer to drop fur. We showed his senior design team PETA’s four-minute video—which documents how animals on fur farms are strangled, electrocuted, and skinned alive—and a few months later, Armani told Time magazine that his meetings with PETA, “convinced me not to use fur.” Unfortunately, he’s gone back on his word; his new collections are full of fur.

Most shockingly, his collections include fur coats for babies and kids. Please be vigilant about any packages that Armani sends for Suri, as they could include bunny fur from his toddler lines. We imagine that Suri, like other children, has a natural affinity for animals, which is why we find it shocking that Armani is not only breaking his fur-free promise but also trying to lure children into fashion derived from skinned rabbits. We also ask that you please use your considerable influence with Mr. Armani to urge him to keep his word and leave fur out of future collections and that you consider wearing fashions from some of the fur-free designers such as Calvin Klein, Ralph Lauren, and Stella McCartney.

Thank you very much for your consideration.

Letters are one thing, but PETA also is making plans to personally confront people wearing Armani or attending his shows. This won’t be pretty. Should be interesting to see if Armani apologizes or simply deals with the insults that are sure to haunt each of his fashion launches and clientele.

From the July 21 print edition of the The National Enquirer, courtesy of Cele|Bitchy,

“Hubby Tom Cruise was reshooting scenes for his long-delayed film “Valkyrie” on the grounds of a Pasadena, CA church in late June when Katie and Suri dropped by to visit, according to an insider. Katie agreed to let Suri play, but not before she gave the nearby swings, benches and small jungle gym the once-over with spray and squirt bottles of sanitizer and disinfectant, said the source….“She even made an antsy Suri stay in the car until she accomplished her mission. Katie could be overheard telling her, ‘Hang on, honey. I’ll be done soon…’”

Two ways to look at this: One, Holmes is a first-time mom and I know lots of people who swear their first kid gave them the most stress with regards to germs. By the third kid, they were pretty much letting them eat cookies off the floor. Two, Mrs. Cruise is setting up an environment that will not benefit young Suri’s immune system and may lead to allergies or other deficiencies later on.

The whole thing doesn’t seem very ‘natural’ to me — especially at the level Holmes is approaching it. What do you think?

It was only a matter of time.

After wooing the world with books, magazine covers, and irresistibly cute photos, Knut the polar bear is now being offered a movie deal. The 245lb “symbol of climate change” is currently going through contract negotiations with Hollywood producer Ash R. Shah. The Berlin Zoo is acting on behalf of the bear and sources close to the deal say something in the realm of $5 million is being thrown around for the rights to the animal’s story. From the article,

“The zoo has confirmed local media reports that it is in talks with a Hollywood producer. ‘We are delighted about the interest from Hollywood. It’s unclear when we will sign the contracts. Some details have yet to be sorted out,’ zoo director Bernhard Blaszkiewitz told Bild am Sonntag newspaper. The film will also address the fate of Knut’s brethren living in the wild as global warming threatens their Arctic habitats, Berlin newspapers say.”

Even more bizarre, Shah is pushing hard to have 18-month-old Suri Cruise (daughter of Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes) be the voice of Knut. We’re placing bets that Suri Cruise would lend her talents to the cuddly 50lb version and not the 245lb present day mega-bear. Said Shah,

“With (Knut’s) friendly character, he’s serves as an ambassador for the Earth’s problems — climate change and the melting polar ice caps. A movie about Knut would affect people all over the world. Suri could speak the English voice of Knut.”

If this guy thinks polar bears are friendly, he should get in a cage with a few. Can Suri even say complete sentences yet? Or is this going to be a point and speak affair. “Sun” “CO2″ “Bad”

Nevermind, it’ll make millions.
