The Irwin Family Visits With The Devils

Australia’s most famous animal activists, Terri, Bindi, and Bob Irwin, visited a wildlife park, East Coast Natureworld in Tasmania and gazed upon the Tasmanian Devils in their free range enclosure. The Park operates as a rescue, rehab, and breeding facility for indigenous animals. Terri Irwin previously donated $20,000 to the program, with the money coming from a dress she auctioned off — which she had originally paid $91 for. Terri also mentioned further financial support will be coming from the Australia Zoo, especially for research. Visit the Natureworld website to read about the devils’ struggle with a facial cancer that has wiped out 60% of their population!!

Bindi is 10 now and little Bob, 4, is a mini-me of his daddy, the late great Steve Irwin.

Terri Irwin Rallies To Protect Croc Hunter Wildlife Reserve

Animal and plant species in the Steve Irwin Wildlife Reserve may be under threat from potential mining, and Terri Irwin has something to say about it.

Although mining company Cape Alumina’s CEO Paul Messenger has claimed it has “no plans to develop in sensitive wet land areas,” Terri Irwin has made it clear there are species that may be affected by any such presence. Cape Alumina’s mining lease application would overlap to about 15 percent of the 333,450-acre reserve, renamed as “Croc Hunter” in 2006.

Terri Irwin has cited the area contains rare bird as well as “vulnerable” plant species.

The mining company seeks the reserve’s bauxite, used in aluminum production. In order to settle the dispute The Queensland state government is slated to conduct an environmental assessment prior to any mining

Anti-Whaling Group Renames Ship After Steve Irwin

Crocodile Hunter lives on to save the whales

The U.S.-based Sea Shepherd Conservation Society — which recently left port from Melbourne to disrupt Japan’s annual whale hunt — has honored the late Steve Irwin by renaming one of its vessels after the late conservationist. The newly named Steve Irwin will form the backbone of Sea Shepherd’s Antarctic mission. From the article,

“Sea Shepherd founder Paul Watson said the television star shared the group’s passion for saving whales. ‘Steve wanted to come to Antarctica with us to defend the whales, and now he will be joining us in spirit with his name emblazoned’ on the ship, Watson said in a statement.”

Man, I still miss this guy. It’s wonderful to see his name and work continue to be honored. His wife, Terri Irwin christened the ship yesterday and had some words for the whaling industry. “‘If you stop the whaling . . . you have the opportunity to be embraced by the world and held up as heroes for stopping something that should have ended along with slavery and cannibalism a long time ago,’ she said. She and her late husband had been long-term supporters of Sea Shepherd and labeled the ship’s captain, Paul Watson, a hero.”
